NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard which is identical with IS0 3875 : 1990 ‘Acceptance conditions for external cylindricalcentreless grinding machines - Testing of the accuracy’ issued by the International Organitation forStandardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of lnidan Standards on the recommendation of theMachine Tools Sectional Committee (BP 03) and approval of the Basic and Production EngineeringDivision Council.

This standard was first issued in 1988 based on 1980 version of IS0 3875. IS0 Standard has sincebeen revised which necessitated the revision of the standard. The standard was earlier titled as: “Testchart for external cylindrical centreless grinding machines”. The title has been changed to bring it in linewith IS0 title.

The text of the IS0 Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as Indian Standard withoutdeviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attentionis particularly drawn to the following:

a)

b)

cl

d)

Wherever the words ‘International Standard’appear referring to this standard, they should be readas ‘Indian Standard’.

Comma ( , ) has been used as a decimal marker in the International Standard, while~in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point ( . ) as the decimal marker.

Inch dimensions as given in the above IS0 standard have not been included as the same are not-prevalent in the country.

French, Russian, German designations in Table 1 have been deleted while adopting it as IndianStandard.

In this adopted standard, reference appears to certain International Standards for which Indian Standardsalso exist. The corresponding Indian Standards which are to be substituted in their place are listedbelow along with their degree of equivalence for the editions indicated.

MACHINES -TESTING OF THE ACCURACY

( First Revision )

1 Scope IS0 1101 : 1983, Technical drawbgs - Geometrica/ toleranc-ing - Tolerancing of form, orientation, tocation and run-out -

This international Standard describes, with reference toIS0 230-1, both geometrical and practical tests on generalpurpose and normal accuracy external cylindrical centrelessgrinding machines and gives the corresponding permissibledeviations which apply.

Generalities, definidons, symbols, indications on drawings.

3 Preliminary remarks

It deals only with the verification of accuracy of the machine. Itdoes not apply to the testing of the running of the machine(vibrations, abnormal ‘noises,-stick-slip motion of componentsetc.), or to its characteristics (speeds, feeds etc.) which shouldgenerally be checked before the accuracy is tested.

3.1 In this International Standard, all the dimensions and per-missible deviations are expressed in millimetres and in inches.

3.2 To apply this International Standard, reference should bemade to ISO 230-l especially for the installation of the machinebefore testing, the warming up of spindles and other movingparts, the description of measuring methods and the recom-mended accuracy of testing equipment.

This International Standard also gives the nomenclature usedfor the principal parts of the machine.

NOTE - In addition to terms used in the three official IS0 languages(English, French and Russian), this International Standard gives theequivalent terms in the German language; these are published underthe responsibility of the member body for Germany, F.R. (DIN).However, only the terms given in the official languages can be con-sidered as IS0 terms.

3.3 The sequence in which the geometrical tests are given isrelated to the sub-assemblies of the machine, and this in noway defines the practical order of testing. In order to make themounting of instruments or gauging easier, tests may be ap-plied in any order.

2 Normative references

The following standards contain provisions which, throughreference in this text, constitute provisions of this InternationalStandard. At the time of publication, the editions indicatedwere valid. All standards are subject to revision, and parties toagreements based on this International Standard are encouragedto investigate the possibility of ap $$ng the most recenteditions of the standards indicated below. Members of IEC andIS0 maintain registers of currently valid International Stan-dards.

ISO 230-l : 1986, Acceptance code for machine tools -Part 1: Geometric accuracy of machines operating under no-load or finishing conditions.

3.4 When~inspecting-a machine, it is not always necessarytocarry out all the tests described in thii International Standard. Itis up to the user to choose, in agreement with the manufac-turer, those relating to the properties which are of interest, butthese tests are to be clearly stated when ordering a machine.

3.5 Practical tests shall be made with finishing cuts and notwith roughing cuts which are liable to generate appreciablecutting forces.

3.6 When the tolerance is established for a measuring rangediiarent from that given in this International Standard JseeIS0 230-l : l!BS, 2.311) it should be taken into considerationthat the minimum value of tolerance is O,OlX! mm (O,ooO OS in).

Subclauses 5.231, 5.333 and 5422.3

The dial gauges shall be mounted on thedressing tool holder with their styli con-tacting the test~mandrel, which is insertedin the grinding wheel spindle, in the planeof action -and in a plane perpendicular tothe plane of action.

The dressing slide shall be moved with anormal working feed. The measuringdistance shall be equal to the maximumwidth of the grinding wheel.

If the machine isprovided with a copyingmechanism, the copying pin should beengaged with a normal working pressure(stated by the manufacturer) against themaster straightedge.

Indicated permissible deviations relate tothe position of the diamond point.

The measuring method gives the sum oferrors from the dressing mechanism.
