NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard which is identical with ISO 4766:1983 ‘Slotted set screws with flat point’ issuedby the International Organization for Standardization ( ISO ) was adopted by the Bureau of IndianStandards on the recommendations of the Bolts, Nuts and Fasteners Accessories Sectional Committeeand approval of the Medical Instruments General and Production Engineering Division Council.

The other standards in the series are given below:

IS 15629:2005 Slotted set screws with cone point

IS 15630:2005 Slotted set screws with long dog point

IS 15631 :2005 Slotted set screws with cup point

Earlier the above subjects were covered by IS 2388:1971 ‘Slotted grub screws ( first revision)’ and thesizes were covered from M 1 to M 24 whereas this draft covers the sizes from M 1.2 to M 12. TheCommittee responsible for formulation of these standards decide-d that after the publication of abovestandards, IS 2388: 1971 which earlier covered the above subject, shall be withdrawn.

The text of 1S0 Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard withoutdeviations. .Certain terminology and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in the IndianStandards. Attention is drawn especially to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear, referring to this standard, they should beread as ‘Indian Standar-d’.

b) Comma ( , ) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the cur~ent practiceis to use a point ( . ) as the decimal marker.

In this adopted standard, reference appears to certain International Standards for which IndianStandards also exist. The corresponding Indian Standards, which are to be substituted in their places, are listed below along with their degree of equivalence for the editions indicated:

As decided by the Committee additional requirements of packaging, and BIS Certification Marking aregiven in National Annex A. These additional requirements are part of this standard.

For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standard is complied with, the finalvalue, observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off inaccordance with IS 2 : 1960 ‘Rules for rounding off numerical values ( revised )’. The number ofsignificant places retained in the rounded off value should be the same as that of the specified valuein this standard.
