    FOREWORD

    This Indian Standard was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards, after the draft finalized by the AutomotiveVehicles Running on Non-conventional Energy Sources Sectional Committee had been approved by the TransportEngineering Division Council.

    NATURAL GAS(CNG) FUEL SYSTEM COMPONENTS —

    ELECTRICAL WIRING KIT

    1 SCOPE

    1.1 This standard specifies definitions, test methodsand requirements of electrical wiring kit of CNGonboard fuel system component intended for use onmotor vehicles defined in 1!3 14272 (Part 1), twowheelers and construction equipment vehicles (CEV).

    1.1.1 This standard is applicable to CNG fbel systemcomponents intended to use on vehicles usingcompressed natural gas (mono-fuel or hi-fuelapplications).

    1.1.2 It is not applicable to the following:

    a)

    b)

    c)

    d)

    Liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel systemcomponents located upstream of, andincluding, the vaporizer;

    Fuel containers;

    Stationary gas engines; and

    CNG fuel systems components for thepropulsion of marine craft.

    The following standards contain provisions which,through reference in this text, constitute provisions ofthis standard. At the time of publication the editionsindicated were valid.     3 DEFINITIONS

    For the purpose of this standard definition those givenin IS 15710 shall apply.

    4 REQUIREMENTS OF ELECTRICAL WIRINGKIT

    4.1 General

    All wiring shall be properly installed, taped, clippedor contained in a loom along its length.

    4.2 Conductor Resistance Test

    The wiring cables for motor vehicles when tested asper 13 of IS 10810 (Part 5) for conductor resistancetest shall comply with the requirements specified inTable 1.

    4.3 Spark Test

    4.3.1 The cable when tested for spark test as perIS 10810 (Part 44) shall withstand 5000 V for O.15sor more.

    4.3.2 Immersion Test

    For the immersion test the following procedure shallbe followed:

    A test specimen about 600 mm in length shall betaken for the immersion test from a lot of cablewhich has passed the spark test. The insulator atboth the ends for a length of about 25 mm of thespecimen shall be tom off and the bare conductortwisted and as shown in Fig. 1, the central part ofthe specimen for a length of 300 mm shall beimmersed in 5 percent salt solution.

    After immersion for 5 h, an ac voltage of 50 to 60 Hzcycles/see and nearly sinusoidal wave shall be appliedbetween the conductor and earth. The voltage shall begradually increased up to 1000 V and cable shallwithstand this voltage for 1 min.

    4.4 Flammability Test

    The fweretardant material of the electrical wiring whentested as per 13 of IS 2465 shall conform to 22 ofIS 2465.

    5 MARKING

    5.1 Electrical wiring kit for CNG vehicles shall bepermanently marked witk

    5.2 Each electrical cables of the wiring kit for CNGvehicles shall be permanently marked with size.

    5.3 BIS Certification Marking

    Each wiring kit for CNG vehicles may also be markedwith the Standard Mark.

    5.3.1 The use of the Standard Mark is governed by theprovisions of the Bureau of Indian StandanisAct, 1986and the Rules and Regulations made thereunder. Thedetails of conditions under which the licence for theuse of the Standard Mark may be granted tomanufacturers or producers maybe obtained from theBureau of Indian Standards,

    6 TECHNICAL INFORMATION TO BESUBMITTED BY THE COMPONENTMANUFACTURER

    Technical information to be submitted by thecomponent manufacturer for component type approval/type test shall contain at least following information:

    7 NUMBER OF SAMPLES FOR TESTING

    Minimum one electrical wiring kit sample shall be

    submitted to the test agency for testing. In case anywire in the kit is less than 2 m long then manufacturershall submit additional sample of the same wire 2 m inlength, declaring it as a representative sample.

    8 TYPE TEST (TYPE APPROVAL)

    Electrical wiring kit shall meet the requirements of thisstandard for type approval.

    9 ACCEPTANCE TEST (CONFORMITY OFPRODUCTION)

    Electrical wiring kit approved under this standard shallbe so manufactured as to conform test requirements asspecified in 4.

    10 CHANGES IN TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONSOF A TYPE APPROVED COMPONENT ANDEXTENSION OF APPROVAL

    Any modification in technical specification of alreadytype approved component shall require re-type test/extension of approval at the discretion of test agency,based on the justification provided by the componentmanufacturer and reviewed by the test agency, whichhas granted type approval.
