    Player Zones

    Ant i-Copy Disc Pr ot ect ion

    Inst al lat ion

    DVD Discs

    For t he purpose of dist r ibut ion of DVD Discs, t he wor ld has been separat ed int o 6zones. The zone your unit is int ended for is indicat ed on t he Zone Label. This shouldbe t he same as t he label on discs available in your region. If you have any difficult ies inplaying a disc, make sure t hat t he disc is for t he same zone as your player.

    Some DVD discs have ant i-copying devices.Wit h t hese discs t he playback on a Television will give t he highest qualit y pict ure, however you will not be able t orecord t his signal on a VCR.

    Inst all your unit on a st able flat surface. There must be sufficient room in front of t he unit for t he drawer t o beopened and t he unit should be posit ioned so t hat it can see t he remote cont rol.Do not expose your unit t o ext remes of t emperat ure or humidit y. Avoid st anding it on a hot surface such as ont op of ot her hot running equipment and ensure t hat t here is adequate vent ilat ion t o t he unit .* Caut ion : Do not inst all t his equipment in confined space such as a book case or similar unit !

    There are several t ypes of DVD Disc.Single sided discs. They play for appr oximat ely 2 HOURSSingle sided t wo layer discs. They play for appr oximat ely 4 HOURS

    Double sided discs. They play for appr oximat ely 4 HOURSDouble sided wit h 2 layer s on bot h sides. They play for appr oximat ely 8 HOURS

    DVD discs have Tit les and Chapt ers. There can be several Tit les on one disc and each Tit le can cont ain severalChapt ers. Tit les and Chapt ers ar e numbered, e.g. Tit le 1, Tit le 2 et c. & Chapt er 1 ,2 ,3 et c.Usually Tit le one will show t he disc publisher and st udiologos. The next Tit le will be t he film. Other Tit lescont ain t railers for ot her films, product ion not es, oralt ernat ive endings for t he film. There are manypossibilit ies wit h Digit al Versat ile Disc. Chapt ers wit hint he main Tit le allow you t o search quickly for a specificpoint on t he disc. Many discs have a Chapt er Menusomet imes called Scene Index or Scene Menu that

    displays t he firs t shot from each Chapt er, which allowsyou t o select a shot and play t he disc from t hat pointonwards. DVD discs can be PAL or NTSC. This playercan play bot h t ypes (if t he player zone is cor rect ).DVD discs allow up to 8 Languages and 32 subt it les on a single disc. You can select and change t he languageand subt it le t o suit yourself and play t he whole disc or just par t of it and view it from different angles.

    Pict ure fr eezing & sound skipping or r epeat ing can occur if t he disc inside t he player is dir t y. When a disc becomes dirt y, clean it wit h a cleaning clot h. Wipe t he disc from t he cent er out . Do not wipe in a circular mot ion. Circular scrat ches can cause pict ure distort ion or render t he disc

    unplayable.

    CAUTION - Do not use solvent s, commer cially viable cleaners, orant ist at ic spray int ended for analog discs.

    The placement of speakers is very an impor t ant in t he reproduct ion of surround sound. Part icular at t ent ionshould be t aken when designing t he speaker layout . For t he best sur round effect s, all speakers should beinst alled.

    A t ypical room layout should have t he front left , front r ight and cent er placed along t he front . The sur round left

    and sur round r ight along t he side t owards t he rear. The suround back speaker should be placed behind t helist ener as shown in the above left pict ure. The cent er speaker can be placed above or below t he video scr eenor TV. The subwoofer can be inst alled for power ful bass sounds and can be placed anywhere in t he room.The speaker t o list ener dimensions shown in t he above right pict ure is used for pr oper set up of t he sur roundsyst em (Please refer t o Speaker Set up on P.16).

    Note : Do not connect mor e t han one speaker t o any pair of + /- speaker t erminals. Do not connect any speaker wit h an impedance lower t han t he speakers suppl ied.

    Speaker Placement

    Swit ch On for t he Fir st Time Connect up t he Home Theat er Syst em as shown in t he preceding pages. Connect Power t o t he Home Theat er Syst em. The Home Theat er Syst em should have t he St andby Light illuminat ed. Press t he St andby On / Off key (eit her on t he front panel or t he remot e contr ol). Press DVD (eit her on t he front panel or t he remot e cont rol), it will change t o DVD mode. Aft er a few

    seconds t he panel will show NO DISC . Swit ch on your TV and select t he AV input t hat t he Home Theat er Syst em is connect ed t o. You should

    see t he DVD Scr een and a message Inser t a disc . Press t he open key (on t he front panel or t he remot e cont rol). The disc t ray will open. Place a DVD disc

    on t he t ray and press close key (same as open key). The player will read t he disc and st ar t playing.Before t he movie st ar t s t o play, a menu may be shown. You will need t o high-light PLAY MOVIE and

    press [OK] t o st art playing t he movie. Alt hough you can wat ch a movie immediat ely, you can configure a bet t er performance on your Home

    Theat er Syst em. You can press STOP and proceed t o do t he syst em set up opt ions on t he next page.This will set up all t he funct ions on your Home Theat er Syst em. You only need t o do this once when youfirst inst all your Home Theat er Syst em.

    The Dolby Pro Logic II Surr ound syst em is t he next generat ion in Dolby Sur round decoding. It creates five full-bandwidt h output channels fr om t wo-channel sources. This is done using an advanced, high-purit y mat r ixsurr ound decoder t hat ext ract s t he spat ial propert ies of t he or iginal recording wit hout adding any new soundsor t onal colorat ions.

    Dolby Digit al Sur r ound EXDolby Digit al Surr ound EX uses encoding t echniques as Dolby Digit al 5.1 , however an addit ional rear cent erchannel is mat r ix encoded ont o t he left and right sur round channels for an even more excit ing, envelopingsurr ound-sound effect .

    3 St er eo3 St ereo produces t hree channels (front left , center, front r ight ) of sound from a t wo channel analog signal. Itis not a surr ound format so it does not require surr ound speakers.

    Soundfield Effect sThe digit al Soundfield Effect s recreates t he effect s of sounds r eflect ed from walls or ceilings t o obt ain t hesound presence of real environment s.- St adium: recreat es a large st adium using very long reverberat ion t imes.- St age: recreat es a st age environment , emphasizing sound from t he front speakers.- Hall: recreat es a hall using lot s of reflect ions.     Loading Discs

    You can load at maximum 5 discs in t he unit for playing.

    Select ing Discs

    Exchanging Discs during Play

    Whileour Home Theat er Syst em has been designed t o ensure t hat it is compat ible wit h t he largest number ofdiscs, it cannot be guarant eed t hat you will be able t o play discs which might not be compliant wit h t hest andard. In t he case of wr it able and rewrit able discs, compat ibilit y wit h t his player depends on t he CD / DVDwrit er, t he right software and t he right disc used.

    DVD-Video

    Digit al video discs (8 and 12cm), s ingle or doublesided, single or dual layer. DVDs are high-densit yopt ical discs on which high qualit y pict ure and audioare r ecorded by means of digit al signals.

    DVD-R/RW, DVD+ R/RW

    DVD-R and DVD+ R are one recor ding DVD discs .DVD-RW and DVD+ RW are rewr it able DVD discs.Recordings us ing DVD-R and DVD-RW discs must bemade in Video DVD mode. Recordings us ingDVD+ RW discs must be made in accordance wit h t he

    specificat ions for DVD+ RW discs wit h a 4.7 GBcapacity.

    Audio CDs

    Audio CDs (8 and 12 cm).

    CD-R & CD-RWCD-R is a one recor ding disc. CD-RW is a rewr it abledisc. Our Home Theat er Syst em can play most CD-Rdiscs . CD-Rs writ t en during a mult i-sessionrecording can also be played, provided t hat t hesession has ended before t he disc is played(depending on t he wr it e soft ware). However,depending on t he condit ion of t he CD wr it er, comput erand t he disc used, you may find t hat not all discs willplay successfully. When playing a CD-R disc, it iscomplet ely normal for t he unit t o t ake up t o 20seconds t o recognize t he disc before st art ing t o play.

    If t he disc is not recognized aft er a period of 20seconds, remove t he disc, and t hen insert it again. Irr espect ive of t he actual recording capacit y of

    t he CD-R, do not use it s full capacit y.

    CD-Rs should be preferably used inst ead of CD-RWs (r ewrit able CDs) as, in cert ain cases, CD-RW playback may be fault y.

    Use reliable, good-qualit y CD writ e soft ware.

    Close all ot her applicat ions on t he computer t oensure r eliable CD-R disc r ecording.

    Disc cont aining audio files in MP3 format . As forCD-R MP3 discs, please follow all t herecommendat ions for CD-R above, along wit h t hecomment s below: Your MP3 files should be ISO 96 60 or JOLIET

    format . ISO 96 60 format and Joliet MP3 files arecompat ible wit h Micr osoft s DOS and Windows,as well as with Apple Mac. These t wo format s aret he most widely used.

    MP3 filenames should not exceed 12 charact ers,and should end wit h t he .M P3 ext ension.General name format : Tit le.MP3 . When

    composing your t it le ensure t hat you use 8charact ers or less, have no spaces in t he name,and avoid t he use of special charact ers including (. , / , \ , = ,+ ).

    Use a decompression t ransfer rat e of at least128kB/sec (kilobyt es/second) when recordingMP3 files. Sound qualit y wit h MP3 files basicallydepends on t he rat e of compress ion /decompression you choose. Obt aining audio CDqualit y sound requires an analog/digit al samplingrat e, t hat is convert ed t o MP3 format , of at least128kB/sec and up t o 16 0kB/sec. Choosing higher

    rat es, such as 1 92 kB/sec or more, will r arelyproduce bet t er sound qualit y. Conversely, fileswit h sampling rat es below 12 8kB/sec will not playproperly.

    Do not t ry recording copyright -prot ect ed MP3files. Secured files are encr ypt ed and code-prot ect ed t o prevent illegal copying. You must notcopy such files.

    CD-R and CD-RW wit h JPEG files. JPEG is acompr essed image file format . Your player can playJPEG files wit h a resolut ion of up t o five million (5mega) pixels. However, t here is no percept ibleimprovement in t he qualit y of pictures displayed onyour TV scr een beyond 400,000 pixels.Cert ain JPEG files, including progressive JPEG files,cannot be read by t his player.
