Children in the Spotlight

Shinewaves Competition Time

Last week’s competition was to see how many words (which can be found in a dictionary) you could make from the words WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE. The winner with 98 words from 2M was Rachel Hooton. Congratulations Rachel!

This week’s competition is a spring celebration. The Floralia or Florifertum, was an ancient Roman festival dedicated to Flora, the goddess of flowers and the season of spring. The festival lasted from 28 April to 3 May and celebrated the cycle of life. Flowers decked the temples and Roman citizens wore colourful clothing instead of the usual white, and there was

much dancing and other festivities.

Customs from the Floralia festival are still evident in throughout England today: ‘Dressing the Well’, occurs in the Peak district of England in small villages each summer. Well-dressing involves pressing flowers, leaves and other natural

materials into a clay-lined frame to create a design or picture

So this week’s competition is to create a design or picture from natural materials.

Pop your entries in the competition post box outside the hall or hand in at the office, by Tues 3rd May with your name and

class on the back.

Arts Festival T-shirt design winners!

Congratulations to Aimee Crawford and

Anya Day whose T-shirt designs were both

selected by Mr Dumbell,

to feature on our Arts Festival T-shirts, front

and back.

Sample T-shirts will be available to view on the playground outside Year 2 at the end of the day during the next couple of weeks. We will be sending you an order form with a letter. A full range of sizes will be available for you to view.

Some children are still wearing their T-shirts from the last Arts Festival three years ago. The T-shirts can be worn throughout the Festival and then used afterwards for P.E. If you choose not to purchase a T-shirt the children will need

to come in school uniform.
