This program brings informa- tion about these milestones to the public and makes connections between the history, culture, and nature of the region. The challenge in providing ser- vices for youth offenders transi- tioning back into the community is to replace negative influences with intensive and comprehensive train- ing and support. MRPD Street- Corps provides academic remedia- tion, employment and training ser- vices, support services, counseling/ case management, leadership de- velopment, job placement, and fol- low-up services to youth offenders. The goal of StreetCorp is to connect at-risk youth and young offenders to their community through attainment of their high school diploma, training and em- ployment, when and where possi- ble. In addition to minimizing re- cidivism among youth participants, this program design allows pro- gram participants to serve as mod- els for peers and curb peer involve- ment in delinquent behaviors. Through the innovative alignment of academic skill remediation with workforce development training, youth participants are poised to advance academically and profes- sionally by being able to sit for and pass credentialing/certificating programs in their area of choice. Participants are referred to the pro-gram through MRPD, community serviceorganizations, schools, and/or self-referrals. Upon enrollment, participantswill work with program staff to completean individual development plan to iden-tify program goals and measure individ-ual’s progress towards those goals.

All recyclables (aluminum cans, bottles, paperand cardboard) can be put in the same yellow re-cycle bin which will be picked up Friday of eachweek. These items will be taken to the Countyrecycle plant as they now have the capability toseparate the items.
All appointments must be made before 12 Noonon the Friday preceding the pick up day. All bulkmust be set out before 7:00 AM on pick up day.

Mount Rainier’s Community Tool Shed held itssecond workshop the morning of February 11around the theme of “Weatherization.”
About 10 people arrived armed with questionsfor builder Pete McAvoy, as we assessed from bot-tom up the weatherizing needs and options of a1920s bungalow.
Pete, an expert in energy efficient buildingmethods, covered such topics as: prioritizing en-ergy improvements in your house; determiningwhat is cost effective weatherization steps; how toinsulate an existing wall; interior storm windows;insulating as a cornerstone to energy efficiency;condensation problems in walls and attic ceilings;and different types of hot water heat pumps.
It was a great session and much was learned.The next free Tool Shed event will be Saturday,April 7th, 10 am –Noon, at 4213 34th Street(corner of Tilden & 34th Streets) . Please note, thisworkshop is not at the Tool Shed.
