WELCOME TO TERM 4
Welcome back to Term 4! Hopefully you all had a restful and enjoyable break. Term 4 promises to be another busy Term at GK with several exciting events in store for the students including camp, swimming, a range of incursions / excursions, the commencement of our transition pro-gram and of course, the Christmas concert. It will be Christmas before we know it!
Staffing update as follows:
A warm welcome to our new Acting Principal, Phillip Banks. Phillip leaves behind his current school, Hurstbridge Primary to join us for two and a half weeks where he will replacing Leanne whilst she is holidaying with her family. Other staff on leave this Term (for the next two weeks) are Luisa Rinaldi, Shannon Whelan and Sally Armstrong.
Welcome also to the new students and families who have joined the Glen Katherine Primary School community.
Have a terrific term everyone!
CURRICULUM DAY ON MONDAY 2nd NOVEMBER
All parents and carers are reminded that Monday Nov 2nd (the day before Cup Day) is a Curric-ulum Day. Whilst staff will be at school working on the day, it is a student-free day. Staff will be working on assessment and reporting.
HATS ARE BACK FOR TERM 4
Dust them off! Hats are back to start Term 4. If students do not have a hat to wear during lunch, recess and outside activities, they will not be able to play / participate. It is always a good idea to have those hats clearly labelled with your child’s name as we do end up with many un-named items in Lost Property.
EARLY DROP-OFF OF CHILDREN BEFORE SCHOOL
Just a reminder to parents that students are not supposed to be dropped off very early before school. It is possible that staff members have not yet arrived at school by 8am so the safety of your child is at risk. Staff members are required to supervise students in the yard from 8.25am. If you need to drop your child off very early to school, you can access our Year Round Care pro-gram.
PREP ENROLMENTS
We are currently trying to finalise prep numbers for 2016. If you or a family you know have a child intending to attend Glen Katherine P.S next year and have not yet enrolled, we would ap-preciate it if you could drop in at the GK office and talk to the office staff.
Jenny or Louise would be happy to help you out by either collecting your enrolment paper work or providing you with the necessary forms. This would help us facilitate planning for next year. Feel free to give the school a ring on 9431 1599 if you have any queries.

Community Leaders in Sustainability – applications open now
Banyule City Council is offering a free environmental training course in early 2016 for people who
have ideas for environmental projects in their community.
The course runs from February to May 2016 and aims to support community members to take the
lead on creating environmental change.
A community project involves members of the community taking action to improve, protect or nur-
ture their natural environment, or to reduce their impact on the environment. Some past project
examples include:
starting a community composting system where people can take food waste
opening a community art studio with re-used and re-cycled art materials
creating an online map of environmental and community groups
designing a community food garden at a local school
running walk and ride to school events at local schools
uploading bicycle routes onto Google maps and promoting to cyclists
starting a kitchen garden at a workplace
running a bicycle repair pop-up
working with local businesses to reduce plastic bag use
helping workplaces adopt non-disposable coffee cups for staff.
There will be 8 workshops on topics like project management, leadership, grant writing, marketing
and communication, effective group work as well a range of aspects of environmental sustainabil-
ity. The participants will be supported to put their projects ideas into practice.
WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME?
• Free training
• Increased knowledge and skills in running projects and environmental sustainability
• Expanded knowledge and networks in your community
• New friends who care about community and environment
• A lot of fun
