The Box Tops Committee is proud to announce that the

YBH Library will be the beneficiary of all funds raised

through the Box Tops for Education Program this school

year. The library has made great advances under the

direction of Mrs. Avigaille Katz and with the help of every

YBH family we look forward to seeing continued growth. The funds will be used to

expand the library collection, focusing on acquiring non-fiction in subject areas that are deficient, fiction from Jewish publishers and to

purchase additional seating in the library to ensure a comfortable and inviting

space for all students. *******

Please send all your empty, uncrushed cereal boxes to the

office for Mrs. Kossin’s art class.

YBH was privileged to participate in a virtual challenge last Wednesday. A group of 6G students spent two engaging hours in the science lab connect-ed via internet to ten other schools across the country as well as the moderating team in Israel. Students worked as a group and with partners to solve rid-dles that challenged their Algebra and general prob-lem solving skills. They in-terfaced using the Smart Board and on printouts. A tremendous thank you to Mr. Michael Friedman who made printing the riddles and keeping us linked to the website possible. We are thankful to Rabbi Leiner, Mrs. Lichtman and Morah Stern who all came to the lab to cheer us on. The girls made YBH proud as they worked diligently as a team. The YBH family hopes that they always en-joy academic pursuits as much as the smiles on their faces indicated how much they enjoyed the E2K challenge. Mrs. Rochie Sommers E2K Program

LIMUDEI KODESH UPDATE—GIRLS Dear Parents: The middle school girls enjoyed a memorable Shabbaton last Shabbos, Parshas Vayeitzei, together with their morahs, administra-tors and staff members. We were honored to have Dr. and Mrs. Gold stop by and share the experience with us. The cafeteria was beautifully decorated to reflect the theme of מנוחה ושמחה

From the .אור ליהודים centerpieces to the banner, the theme of simcha was creatively displayed and expressed throughout Shabbos. The girls explored ways of maintaining a positive outlook and what it means to be בשמחה. Rabbi Leiner’s inspira-tional words at the Shab-bos seudah clarified the true meaning of simcha. We had the opportunity to hear from Chavi Sommer (8G), who shared a thought relating to the Parsha, an important les-son that being בשמחה should not come at the expense of another person. We also had the privilege of Ms. Ashira Greenberg, a student at Stern College speak to us. She shared her personal journey of challenges and spoke of how a person can be בשמחה despite their limitations and instead be defined by their accom-plishments. It was inspiration-al and meaningful having her spend Shabbos with us. The girls enjoyed an Oneg Shab-bos filled with activities, in-cluding charades performed on ל“מאמרי חז focusing on the theme of simcha. The eighth grade girls enjoyed an interactive workshop with Rabbi Leiner and the highlight

of the Oneg was a comedy skit performed by the morahs! After an uplifting day, each grade enjoyed Shalosh Seudos at their respective morahs’ homes. Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Adler for spon-soring and hosting Morah Goldberg and the eighth grade girls.

Our Motzei Shabbos program provided a wonderful outlet for the girls to express themselves actively during an amazing trip to Bounce U. Thank you, Morah Taub, Morah Ritz and Morah Ausband for chaperoning the trip. A very special thank you to our wonder-ful PTA for sponsoring the trip. To conclude our wonder-ful Shabbaton, we headed Back to YBH for a fun Melave Malka.

I would like to thank the girls who planned the wonderful Shabbaton for a job well done; Chayala Adler, Sara Leah Le-dereich, Chana Leeba Garelick and Gittel Steinberg. The ruach and achdus felt throughout Shabbos was powerful and beautiful. We were left with many warm

memories that will surely last. From the many happy faces, it was clear that a fan-tastic time was had by all. Wishing you a simcha filled Shabbos! Mrs. Chana Frumit Stern

Mrs. Samuels’ 5G class: This year the 5th grade girls are learning about Ameri-can history from a weekly "newspaper" called the USA Studies Weekly. In the context of learning about slav-ery in the colonies, the girls learned about triangular trade. In order for them to best understand the trade that occurs between three continents or ports, we de-cided to role play the trade. The class was split into two groups. Each group created signs to symbolize three coasts (Holland, West African Coast and the Virginia Dock). Each girl was then assigned a role (i.e merchant, African slave driver, sailor, etc...). Each group then act-ed out a skit for the other group to see exactly what happened during triangular trade. They followed the travels of a coin, as it was exchanged for trinkets and goods across the world. What a wonderful opportunity to use auditory, visual and kinesthetic learning to understand a new concept.

Ms. Schustermann Bank’s 1G Class: The first grade girls have been busy writing in their jour-nals daily and we recently finished writing our first Fall acrostic poems. We are also writing a book about what we are thankful for in time for Thanksgiving and we will be working on our Chanukah writing projects shortly. In math we are hard at work practicing our addition and subtraction facts and solving story problems. We are learning about bar graphs, pictographs and tally charts as ways of recording information. We enjoy our reading time and the girls’ reading abilities are growing every day! We had a wonderful opportunity to visit the mid-dle school science lab. After Rabbi Wieder gave us a tour of the lab, we had a chance to be part of a large electrical circuit. Morah Goldberg’s Kitah Ches: The eighth grade girls are working very hard sharpening their Rashi skills. Much time was spent analyzing and understanding how Rashi drew his conclusions to a specific question that he had. We focused on research-ing the pasuk that Rashi quoted as proof and how he drew the conclusion that he did in order to reach his answer. Our goal is to be able to prepare a Rashi very well for our high school interviews.

ECD HIGHLIGHTS

Morah Melissa’s K-L Class: Things are really moving along in Morah Melissa's Kindergarten. We began learning about different modes of transportation. We categorized the different modes into sets with wheels and without wheels and found it interesting that trains have wheels, but not tires. We have been making special snacks to go with each type of vehicle. So far we have eaten a car, a sailboat and an airplane. Yummy transportation!

A Peek Into Our Week:

Morah Ho’s Kitah Daled: Learning is in full swing in our fourth grade class! Our girls are well on their way to becoming Royal Rashi Readers, as we kicked off a special new program designed to improve accura-cy and fluency. We have also completed our first perek in Chumash. We will learn about what happens to Yosef after he is sold and taken down to Mitzrayim. In other exciting 4th grade news, we began learning Sefer Yehoshua, the first step in the journey through Navi. Not only will we learn all about the conquering and dividing of Eretz Yisrael, we will also be sharpening our kriah and shorashim skills at the same time. The class recently filled up their “Terrific Tefilla Tally” chart and was rewarded with a special prize for their beautiful davening - keep up the great work girls and may all of our tefilos be answered l’tova! Mr. Nagel’s Sixth Grade Social Studies Class:

In 6G we started to learn about Mesopotomia. We learned about the transition from pictographs to written language based on sounds (a phonetic language). The girls are excited to make stylus tools which they will use to write Cuneiform (written language of Mesopotomia) and practice on their own clay tablets.
