GM REPORT
A list of Cabramatta Golf Club’s 2017 Champions is on the front page of this edition, well done to all and enjoy your bragging rights. The 2017 Champions were honoured at our recently completed presentation night where 150 members and guests wined & dined and enjoyed each other’s company. Thank you to all who attended, thank you to all who donated their time to
make the night enjoyable for the others.
A fair bit has happened in the short time since our last newsletter, most of which is on the golf course, namely the coring & fertilizing of our fairways, the completion of concreting the bridge near the pump house on 10 & 11, the repair and soon to be replaced piping and pumps from Cabramatta Creek, all fairways have been sprayed with Acelepryn (black beetle killer), also turfing on the right hand side on 11th fairway. We also, with council permission heavily trimmed the dangerous tree left
of the 7th green as well as 2 dead trees removed on the 4th tee and 3rd fairway.
I am very happy with the finished product of levelling just before the dog leg on the 2nd hole, this not only looks better but also speeds up play with balls not accelerating down the slope. A huge pat on the back to all involved for the magnificent way our course is being presented. We have a rather large list of future projects and I will advise of those when we get
closer.
The Clubhouse has had its carpets cleaned and an outside TV installed near the spike bar. Of a night time feature lighting
now highlights some of our gumtrees near the 17th & 18th.
Currently a state of the art CCTV system is being installed for both inside the clubhouse, the carpark and greenkeepers
shed. This is not only for patrons comfort and peace of mind but also a Government requirement.
Following a rocky last couple of months the Club has terminated our association with APL Poker and are proud to announce that WPT Poker is now receiving very good reviews and supplying healthy crowds to Wednesday & Friday
nights.
Finally, in January 2017 we enjoyed the company of 15 players from our buddy club “Taree Golf Club” who travelled down to start off an annual challenge. Now, it is our turn to retain & bring back the trophy that we won. A list is on the bar for interested people to travel to Taree on Sunday 21st January. Taree will also welcome our members to play in their competition on the Saturday should you wish to have a practice round. A great weekend is promised with country
hospitality the feature. Any enquiries just ask Monica or myself in the office.
A select bunch of photos will be shown of those enjoying the presentation night, obviously some had to be edited.
Enjoy our beautiful course and be safe!

Have you meet the Mere’s Brothers—
you have now!
It started with Terry Pendlebury
deciding to go for a swim on Sunday,
9th July.
Apparently on Wednesday, 12th July Derek Sawyer decided to let his buggy and clubs go for a swim at the 13th. Was it that hot???

Hi all,
As you have probably noticed we have gone through some changes in the shop. Not only with renovations inside but also creating a new website that allows you to access your ball comp balance. We hope to incorporate some form of online shop in the future as well as some great golf content. Our main focus however was to start with members ball comp being more accessible and transparent for all to see. I hope you all log in and change your email address and passwords so we can improve this new part of the shop. I need to thank my great mate Vince from Trademark Bathrooms who without we could not have done the
renovations in the shop. Thanks to Billy and the club also for looking after the electrical supply as well.
As you might be aware, our teaching pro Rhett has been doing a magnificent job developing junior golf within the club. In the short space of a year he has built his Friday clinic up to around 15 kids and his rookie kids to around 8 on a Wednesday. If every club did what we are trying to achieve and what Rhett has begun, golf in
our country has a solid future. I would like to thank Rhett for his ongoing dedication to our club.
Don’t forget it is always a great Christmas idea to have a lesson. So come in and have a chat to Rhett or ring
him on 0405 150 259.
We have a number of new clubs for demo in the shop. G400 ping, Wilson C300, and the 718 Titleist irons. We have a fitting day on Monday 27 th from 1-6. Come on down and check out these great products. Also it’s a
great chance to try a Scotty Cameron putter on this day.
Please don’t forget us for Christmas, remember you can always buy a voucher over the phone for your convenience, then add it to your ball comp and loyalty points, and before you know it you have enough for
that special club you’ve always wanted!
Our Titleist summer promo is on again! This year you can win a collectors Titleist esky, just buy any dozen of
Titleist’s huge range of balls starting from $32 to go into the draw.
I would like you all to take the time to have a wonder around the shop and have a look at the products we have and also our prices. Generally we have ALWAYS been cheaper than the bigger shops. We have less overheads and you’re getting advice from professionals, I’m not sure why you would need to go anywhere
else!
A big congratulations to all our club champions for 2017. A great achievement by you all!
Once again I would like to thank my great staff who make my life much easier through their hard work. My Shop Manager Michelle, my teaching pro and Assistant Pro Rhett, Tour Pro and shop assistant Nathan, Adarsh who is back working for a short time before starting his career in Optometry, and also my friend John Casey who volunteers his time each week to help me with cart maintenance. Thank you all from the bottom of
my heart.
Thanks for your time and happy golfing.
Matt.

Just a few Tips from Master!!!
1st
Fade off the first tee. Fairway is more important than length 2nd shot will bounce up onto the green if you land it short over the green not advised.
4th
Straight away, strong par 4. Tee up right side and hit a gentle fade. Out of Bounds on the right. 2nd shot requires precision, two large bunkers either side try to land your second to the back of the green where the pin will generally be placed, be careful of the hazard over the back.
9th
The ideal shape off the tee is a draw to land onto the left to right sloping fairway. Getting the right club in your hand is essential, front half of the green is the safest play. Right and long not preferred, have a snack at Bellissmo’s then refreshment and take on the back nine.
11th
Par 5, 3 shot hole, drive your ball on left side of fairway as right side will have you blocked for your lay up for dogleg 2nd shot. Once you have laid up you will then need to play across the pond to a long narrow green. My tip is to play a running style shot to a back pin placement.
14th
Par 3 with pond short for a mishit shot. A generous green, but take care of your length as anything long is ugly. This hole is home of Dowdys Pro Pin, a highly sought after prize.
18th
Rated no 4 on the course index, this is a tough finishing hole, try to drive up the right side, this will give you a clear second shot. The trees on the left will come into play with anything going left of the green. One or two clubs more to this uphill green and try to leave your shot underneath the hole so you are not putting down the ‘Marble Staircase’!
DOWDY’S COURSE COMMANDMENTS
The general rule at Cabra is don’t be long! Over the green is not good, it will leave you shaking like a Chihuahua at a Rottweiler convention, so keep your nerve in tact. For the average player, play short to the tough long holes and use a running style shot into the greens. For the better player pick the holes to attack and be patient!!
Good golfing to you all.

News from the Green Staff
November 2017
REVIEW OF PREVIOUS MONTH
The course received 23.4mm of rainfall over November so far, most of which fell over 2 days. Although we received more than last November, we are still nearly 300mm below that of last year. Even with that rainfall the fairways and tees definitely looking dry around the edges. This is due to us having one pump out of action, meaning we are down to half our output, making water a much bigger task. We look forward to being back to full capacity. The coring of fairways was finalised over the early part of the month, and the results from the earlier coring is pleasing to see. The intersection between the green and the collar was edged to remove runners and promote a clean line between the two. We secured the overflow pipe from the dam at the 10th green, and in doing so poured a cross over path from the 10th to the 11th. The Rye grass on the 8th fairway was sprayed to remove it, allowing the kikuyu to thrive over the coming months. Irrigation repairs
are ongoing, replacing sprinklers, decoders and solving wiring issues.
REVIEW OF NEXT MONTH
If all goes to plan, we should be installing new discharge lines, shrouds and pumps at our pump station on Monday 4 th December. The apron on the left side of the 10th green will be topdressed, as will the new turf on the right side of the
11th fairway.
Greens: Greens are being cut every day on 3.25mm, weather permitting. Greens were rolled on 8 occasions. Plugging
of greens has continued due to bird damage.
Fairways: Fairways are now being cut 3 to 4 times a week on 12mm. On Monday 13th, fairways 9, 13 and 18 were cored with the Ventrac. The cores were rubbed in, and then blown off, and Dinofert (organics) was applied to any thin, worn areas. On Tuesday 14th, fairways 3, 5 and 12 were cored with the Ventrac. Also fairways 2 and 8 were cored with
the Toro Procore. These fairways were all rubbed in, blown off and Dinofert applied to thin, worn areas.
Tees: Tees are being cut twice a week on 9mm.
Aprons & Collars: The aprons and collars were cut twice a week on 7mm.
Bunkers: Bunkers are currently raked on Wednesday mornings, and Friday afternoons. Bunkers are also checked on
Saturday and Sunday mornings, time permitting. Bunker surrounds were also cut.
Machinery Report: All machinery was service as per the service schedule. The Ventrac had the bearings replaced in
the drive clutch.

Despite inclement weather for many of the scheduled golf days and a number of improvements around the course and Clubhouse which were met within normal trading income, results for the year surpassed expectations and another healthy profit of $279,315 was achieved.
Following on from the extensive Clubhouse renovations there were numerous further ground improvements undertaken during the course year, including course machinery upgrading, resurfacing of the club car park, landscaping car park surrounds, resealing of the roadway to the Greenkeeper’s shed, and security fencing around the Clubhouse.
In addition plans were well in hand for the reconstruction of the 7th and 14
th teeing areas as well
as a complete renovation of the kitchen area, men’s toilet block and the stage and dining area.
The Major Pennant Team had a good year winning their Division and progressing right through to the final. Unfortunately they were beaten 4/3 in the final by a very strong Monash side.
