The Puerto Rico Section of the ITE was ini-tially formed in the year 1992. At that time, the Section was combined with a local pro-fessional association called APTRA (“Asociación de Profesionales de la Trans-

portación”). The first PR Section Board was composed of Benjamín Colucci (President), Felipe Luyanda (Vice-President), José Parejo (Treasurer), and Eng. Ángel Soto (Secretary).

The ITE Puerto Rico Section was reorganized in May 2010 in a meeting held at the Puerto Rico College of Engineers and Surveyors. At the meeting, an In-terim Board was selected to carry on the reactiva-tion tasks. The board was composed of Alberto Fi-gueroa, Alexis Nevárez, Francisco Klein, Miguel Pel-lot and Carlos Del Valle.

An Official Section Reactivation Activity was held on October 30, 2010 at the San Miguel Plaza Hotel in Bayamón. ITE International, District 10, and the local Section members, came together with offi-cials from federal and state transportation agen-cies, and local transportation professionals to cele-brate the election of the 2011 Section Board.

The ITE PR Section is compromised with the ad-vancement and professional development of its members and the entire local transportation community. Our Section offers leadership and networking opportunities between members and affiliates, as well as promote interaction with other local professional associations, the acade-mia, and government transportation agencies. ITE International Members residing in Puerto Rico are also ITE PR Section Members. If you are interested in the local section, you can affiliate to the ITE PR Section as a Technical, Commercial or Student Affiliate. Please visit our website www.itepr.org and Facebook group, or write us at [email protected] to receive more information.

The ITE - University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez Student Chapter (ITE-UPRM) was cre-ated in the year 1994 at the Department of Civil Engineering and Surveying of the Uni-versity of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez with the aid of Dr. Benjamín Colucci and Dr. Felipe Luyanda, both professors of Transportation Engineering at the university. The ITE-UPRM Student Chapter is an association created by undergraduate and gradu-ate students interested in transportation as a future career path and looking toward the ITE as the appropriate avenue for their academic and professional development. The ITE-UPRM Student Chapter encourages student members to participate in trans-portation related conferences, fellowships, and research activities as a way to help them transform into the next generation of transportation leaders. The ITE-UPRM Student Chapter celebrates its annual Transportation Week to promote transportation topics and new developments among the academia, the professional and general community.
