8.2.3.3 Lab - Working with iOS

Introduction

Print and complete this lab.

In this lab, you will place apps on the home screen and move them between different home screens. You will also create folders to which apps will be added and removed. Finally, you will uninstall apps from the iOS device.

Recommended EquipmentThe following equipment is required for this exercise: • iOS tablet or smartphone running iOS version 5.0

Part 1 - Apps

Step 1Turn on the device and log in with the password, PIN, or other passcode, if necessary.

The main home screen appears.

Step 2Default apps appear on the home screen of an iOS device.

Touch and hold any app until it starts to jiggle.

Drag the app to the desired location and release it.

You can move apps to other home screens.

Touch and hold any app.

Drag the app to the edge of the screen on the left or right in order to place it on a different home screen. This operation will also create a new home screen if there are no others.

Press the home button when all applications are in the desired location.

Part 2 - Folders

Step 1Apps can be grouped together to create folders.

Place 5 apps on the same home screen.

Step 2Touch and drag one of the apps onto another app.

Release the app.

A folder is created containing the apps.

The default folder name is determined by the types of apps placed in the folder.

Step 3Folders can be named to describe the contents.

Touch the words that appear in the text box.

Type the name New Folder for the folder.

Touch anywhere outside the folder to close the folder.

Step 4Create another folder containing 3 apps.

Name the folder New Folder 2.

Step 5Apps can be removed from folders.

Touch New Folder 2 to open the folder.

Touch and hold any app within the folder.

Drag the app to an empty area of the home screen outside of the folder.

Release the app.

Remove the rest of the apps from the folder.

What happens to the folder?

Part 3 - Uninstalling Apps

Step 1Touch and hold an app.

Touch any icon that has a circle with a white x in it. Apps without the white x circle are default apps and cannot be uninstalled.

CAUTION: If you complete the next step, the app will be uninstalled from the device. You will need to reinstall the app from the App Store.

Step 2Touch Delete.
