I. INTRODUCTION

A. WELCOME

Welcome to ATOMICVIEW, your new digital asset manager for Mac OS X and MS-Windows. ATOMICVIEW is a powerful companion software for your multimedia projects since it supports a huge number of image, photo, movie and sound formats.

ATOMICVIEW is very fast and snappy, thanks to its engine using in technologies usually found in video games and to its ultra parallel architecture which is able to use all the CPu cores available in todayʼs computer architecture.

The philosophy of this application is to create and manage a database which is completely independent from your hard disk directory structure. During importation, ATOMICVIEW automatically creates quick previews and links to your original files. This means that ATOMICVIEW never moves, copies or modifies your files (unless you explicitly ask it to do so using one of the file functions).

This very flexible structure offers several advantages, for instance : The ATOMICVIEW database uses minimal space on your hard disk allowing you to import a huge number of files. You can duplicate a clip as often as you want in the software without duplicating it physically on the hard disk. Manipulation of clips is very fast and flexible because it does not require any file operation You can continue to organize your files on the hard disk the way you want. You can work offline. In other words, even if the files are not available because the hard disk is not connected You can continue to search your database and even see the media previews.

The user interface has been designed to be very readable with all the functions available from one single window. It is flexible, incredibly fast and customizable in real time : you can dimension all the main areas with a simple mouse drag or change the contrast and the lightness of the complete interface from the preferences menu.

The Antzero team hopes you have fun discovering the great potential of ATOMICVIEW. if you have any questions be sure to check our forum:

C. INSTALLATION

a. Installing ATOMICVIEW

After an online purchase, you will receive an email containing your serial number and a link to your personal page. Please keep a copy of this email by printing it or by saving it to a safe place. the serial number is your proof of purchase. it is required to receive future updates and to authorize or to move your copy of ATOMICVIEW to another computer.

The link you received by email allows you to access a personal space on the Antzero web-site which displays your serial number and the number of machine you have installed with on. If you purchased a site license, you can click on this web link at any time to see how many computers are currently installed. From this link you can also download the latest version of the software. you can at any time come back to your personal space to download the archive of ATOMICVIEW if you need it. However please note that this link is personal, so never give it to anybody else or we would be forced to close it.

Once the archive is downloaded, there are two procedures depending if you are on Mac OS X or MS-Windows :

On Macintosh :Simply double-click on the archive and wait for the image disk to open. then simply drag and drop the ATOMICVIEW folder to your «Applications» folder.

On Windows :Launch the installer and follow the instructions.

b. Authorizing and deauthorizing ATOMICVIEW

In order to protect the software from piracy, ATOMICVIEW requires an online authorization. The number of computers that can be installed simultaneously depends on the license purchased. A standard license permits the installation of one computer. Of course you can at any time de-authorize and re-authorize another computer very easily directly from ATOMICVIEW even if you purchased only a single computer license.

II. USER INTERFACE

A. GENERAL PRESENTATION

ATOMICVIEW consists of eight different working modules which you can organize quickly and intuitively in the interface according to your needs (see chap. II, B, a). Then you can save as workspaces as many interface configurations as you need (see chap. II, B, b).

Those modules are:

«Groups»This module concerns the organization of your projects inside a catalog by presenting them in hierarchical groups (see chap. III, E, d).

«Clips»Clips allows you to show all your imported files (see chap. III, In, a). This module also includes a universal search to find your media in an intuitive way (see chap. III, C, a).

«Player»With player, you can show your images and documents. It also adapts to read sound and video.(See chap. III, C, c).

«Metadata»Metadata are text fields for indexing your media. ATOMICVIEW supports IPTC, XMP, EXIF, GPS, DICOM metadata formats. It also allow you to create as many personal fields as you need .(see chap. III, E, e).

«Find»With this module, you can find your media easily using metadata fields and keyword.(See chap. III, F, b).

«Info»This module gives information connected to a file, a selection of clips, a group, a selection of groups or a smart group (see chap. III, A, j).

«Keywords»Keywords are organized as a hierarchy of words in a thesaurus. you can then slide words from the thesaurus onto one or several clips. Keywords will also be saved in the file using a metadata field.(See chap. III, E, f).

III: USING THE SOFTWARE

A. IMPORT FILES & FOLDERS

a. Catalogs

With ATOMICVIEW you can structure your databases in several catalogs upstream by groups, keywords and metadata organization.

By default ATOMICVIEW presents a catalog «Main catalog«.

You can move, cut or copy/ paste clips from one catalog to another very easily. To move, drag and drop clips from one catalog to another. To copy them, drag and drop clips while pressing «alt» key.

b. Importing files

Importation is the first operation you will do with ATOMICVIEW. When you import your files, ATOMICVIEW automatically generates preview clips and saves information such as the size, the codec, the dimension, the metadata, etc. to its internal database.

When possible, ATOMICVIEW automatically updates files as you modify them. The import is done only when required, in other words as soon as the file is displayed in the navigator. You can also manually update the files (for more details see the chapter C.e.).

You can also navigate your database even if the original files are not present (on an external hard disk for instance). It is important to understand that ATOMICVIEW does not store your files, it only indexes them. This means that you can continue to organize your files the way you want on your hard disk.

C H A P T E R I I I - U S I N G T H E S O F T W A R E A. IMPORT FILES & FOLDERS

Importing the same files several times does not duplicate the information in the database and does not have any effect on the database size.

There are several ways to import files:

Drag and drop your files directly to the «Groups» module of ATOMICVIEW or to a catalog

When you drag and drop a folder of your hard disk, the software reproduces it as a group. If it contains subgroups it will also reproduce them.

From the «File» menu, select «Import...», and select in the system dialog box the files or folders you want to import. From the context menu. in the organization view use the mouse right click, select «import files» and select in the system dialog box the files or folders you want to import.

If you use the main menu or the «Import Files» function from the context menu, ATOMICVIEW does not reproduce the folder hierarchies of the hard disk. All clips are directly added to the library or the selected group.

File importation starts immediately. ATOMICVIEW generates high quality preview clips based on the original files.

The software does not move or copy your files on your hard disk but creates a link in its database to the original files.

ATOMICVIEW uses all the available CPU when possible for a fast import. You can also start working whilst it is still importing.

ATOMICVIEW is able to import most of the image, video, sound and RAW photo formats. Plus you can choose to display unsupported formats as icons (see chapter III, A, h).

c. Import with hierarchy of folders

To gain time in organizing your groups, you can reproduce the hierarchy of organizational work already done by importing it directly into ATOMICVIEW.

Drag and drop your files directly to the organization workspace of ATOMICVIEW.

When you drag and drop a folder of your hard disk, the software reproduces it as a group. If it contains sub-groups it will also reproduce them.

In the «Group» menu, select «Import «Files And Hierarchy» and then select in the system dialog box the folders you want to import. From the context menu. In the organization view, use the mouse right click and select «Import Files and Hierarchy».

d. Flatten the hierarchy of groups

If required you can suppress the sub-groups by flattening the hierarchy.

Select a group which contains sub-groups and then from the «Group» menu, select «Flatten Sub-Groups». From the context menu. Select a group which contains sub-groups, use the right mouse button and select «flatten sub-groups».

All the sub-groups will be flattened and all the clips moved to the root level.

C H A P T E R I I I - U S I N G T H E S O F T W A R E A. IMPORT FILES & FOLDERS

e. Internal hierarchies and hard disk hierarchies

It is important to understand that ATOMICVIEW has its own hierarchy system. the hierarchy import function has been designed to help you import files that have already been organized in folders on your hard disk. However, once imported these groups are not linked in any way to the folder of your hard disk. You can move them, replace them and delete them without affecting the original folders.

Tip: If you have made some changes on your hard disk and want to synchronize them with ATOMICVIEW you can simply suppress the corresponding groups and drag and drop the folder again into the software program. it will automatically reproduce the hierarchies without having to re-import the files.

C H A P T E R I I I - U S I N G T H E S O F T W A R E A. IMPORT FILES & FOLDERS

f. Last imports

The last importation can be displayed by selecting the special group «Last imports». This always contains your very last importations.

By default, this group is reset each time a new import is started. You can change this behaviour from the «Preferences».

Open the «Preferences» from the menu «AtomicView on Mac Os x or «File» on Windows and then select the «Import» tab. Under «Clear Last import» you can select «Manually».

In this case the last import group is not cleared automatically but only when you remove clip manually.

The «for Each import» option is the default behavior where groups are cleared for each import.

g. Importation settings

You can set a number of importation options that are applied each time a new import is started.

Excluding a formatTo exclude a specific format from the importer:

Open the preferences from the menu «AtomicView» on Mac OS X or «File» in Windows and then select the «Import» tab. To exclude a specific format select «Add Extension» and then add the extension of the file format that should not be imported (for example: jpg, mov, etc.). The extensions excluded are displayed in the box under «Exclude files with extension». To remove an extension and re-enable importation, simply select the extension and select «Delete» from the «Edit» menu.

Files without extension When ATOMICVIEW finds a file without extension it just skips it. However you may ask it to import it as a Quicktime movie by selecting the option «Import File Without Extension As Quicktime Movie». this can be useful for some applications, mostly on the Mac OS X platform, which do not add extensions to their files.

h. Document icons

ATOMICVIEW displays as icons the unsupported formats (Learn more about supported formats see chapter VII). This allows you to associate all types of documents to your projects.

Under the «Info» module you can choose to display or not the documents. Learn more about the «Info» module see chapter III, A, k).

Capturing clips of images You can choose the size of the clips for your images:

Open the preferences from the menu «ATOMICVIEW on Mac OS X or «File» on Windows and then select the «Preview» tab.KEYBOARD SHORTCUT FOR THE PREFERENCES (Cmd,), «Preview» tab.

You can then choose the size in pixels of the clips. If you want you change the size of clips already imported and re-import them (Clip» menu).

Capturing clips of moviesFor your movies you can choose which frame is captured for the clips. (Learn more see chapter III, J, d).

Under «Capture time percent for main preview» choose un % where the clips are captured. You can also choose to display your clips in mosaic. The mosaic appears when you enlarge the clips.

Settings for RAW - JPeg ATOMICVIEW allows you to set options for RAW and JPeg management. The software creates one clip for both files with the possibility to switch from one to another from the player.

You can choose the size of clip for the RAW file. You can ask ATOMICVIEW to use the embedded file if available (for example if it has been created by the camera or an edition software). You ask ATOMICVIEW to use this embedded file if itʼs bigger than the size youʼve set here. You can also ask the software to always use sidecar file if available.

j. Delay import

If you want to pause the file importation you can either press on “Pause” or “Later” from the activity monitor (Cmd O).

In the activity monitor (CMD 0) you have two buttons :

«Pause» if you click on this button the importation of files is paused. To continue the importation click on the same button. The importation of files also continues when you start a new session. «Later» when this is set the importation of files is delayed which allows you to start another importation of files. Also this mode works as a «soft» import as ATOMICVIEW only imports the displayed clips. To continue the importation of files select «Import all Missing Previews» from the «Clip» menu. The importation of files also continues when you start a new session.

You can quit ATOMICVIEW and at the next session the import of files will start where it has stopped.

Even in delayed mode you can display in the player a clip which hasnt̓ been imported. ATOMICVIEW will simply import this file when you select it.

b. Transforming and converting files

ATOMICVIEW supports a powerful integrated tool to convert, transform or generate images, videos or image sequences. When used on several files, this function automatically spreads the workload over all the available cores and processors. On modern computers, this allows the application to reach unequalled performances.

By combining the various option of this tool, you can:• Scale, rotate, crop or draw watermark to image, image sequences or video.• Convert images, image sequences or videos to various formats and codecs.• Merge images, image sequences and videos to a single video.• Convert a video to an image sequence.

How does it workFirst of all you need to select the clips you want to transform in the Clips view of the user-interface. Then select «Convert/Transform file(s)» from the clip menu. A dialog box will be displayed with all the available options.

Please note that ATOMICVIEW never overwrites the original files. You can either write the result of the conversion to a specific folder or simply generate the converted file beside the original files with a different name.

«Conversion / Transformation File(s)» window

The user-interface displays two different areas : A ! The transforming options: This is where you specify image or frame transforming settings ! such as crop, rotate or scale.B ! The output options: This is where you decide how the result of the transformation should be ! saved : videos, images, single merged video.

Transforming options :The transforming functions are applied to videos, image sequences and images in exactly the same way. In the case of video files or image sequences it is applied to every single frame. For instance if you set a watermark, it will be displayed from the start to the end of the video.

ATOMICVIEW offers the following transforming options:

1. Crop : This function can be used to keep only a sub-rectangle of a video or an image. You can enter the values by hand or select the «Set...» button to place the rectangle visually. In the case of a batch convert, the same rectangle in absolute coordinates will be applied to all files (when possible).

2. Transform: This function can be used to rotate or flip a video or an image.

3. Scale: This function can be used to scale or to limit the size of a video or an image. The first two options are «Scale Percent» and «Scale Pixels». This allows you to specify a new size in relative (percents) or absolute (pixels) values. You can also use these options to modify the ratio of the source. This can be very useful when you need to generate anamorphosed videos.

The «Maximal Width/Height» option  is very useful when you need to force a maximum width and height for a set of files that have different sizes. In this mode the converter will only scale the image when the width or the height exceed the passed values. Please note that the ratio is always respected whatever size limit is specified.

The converter is able to resample the pixels using different methods. The default one is bilinear (which is also the fastest) Depending of the quality and the kind of result you are looking for you can select different resampling methods for the scale function.

4. Watermark: It is possible to apply an image watermark over an image or a video. In the case of a video it will be applied over all the frames. A watermark should be specified as an image. The converter correctly handles transparency when you use images that support it (PSD or PNG). You can specify the position of the watermark relative to the corner of the image using the position pop-up menu. You can also apply an X/Y offset in pixels which is added to the previous specified position. For instance if you set «Centred» and 10/10 for the offset, the watermark will be drawn at the center of the source plus 10 pixels on both X/Y axis.

Output options:

ATOMICVIEW offers three modes for generating the result of transformation:

5. Images: In this mode single images are always generated. By default videos are ignored unless you set the «Convert Movies To Images List». In this case, each video will be converter to an image sequence. Formats supported are JPEG, BMP, GIF, PNG, TGA and TIFF. The quality can be specified when using formats that are not loss-less like JPeg. If you specify the «Write Metadata» option, metadata stored in the catalog will be written to the destination file.

Converting and transforming films - output options:

Movies: In this mode only movies or image sequences are processed.

1. You can select the format using the «format» pop-up menu and specific options (like the codec and more) using the «Settings» button (when available).

2. Depending of the settings you specified ATOMICVIEW is able to change the frame rate of your movies. If you donʼt set the «Write Sound Channels» option, the sound will be removed from the movie.

Merged Movies:

This option will generate a single movie by merging all the selected clips (videos, image sequences or images). You can specify both the format and the format settings as for the preceding mode.

1. The «Single Image Duration» option can be used to specify how long each image will be displayed in the video. If you want the image to be displayed at the frame rate of the movie format, change it to «Movie Frame Rate» using the pop-up menu.

File destination:

1. For the first two modes (Images and Movies) you can decide if you want to select a folder where the converted files will be saved.

Otherwise you can choose to save them in the same folder as the original file with a different name.

In the first case you select the folder when you click on the «Convert» button.

In the second case, a text field can be used to define the new name. By default it is set to «<FILENAME> - Conv» which means that the original name will have the «- Conv» word added. You can use a different renaming schema by moving the «<FILENAME>» tag or using a different postfix than «- Conv»

For the last mode (Merged Movie), you always have to select a destination folder.

2. The last option in the converter tool is «Import Results In New Group». If you select this option a new group containing all the converted files is created at the root of the current catalog.

Moving, cut and paste clips:

To move one or more clips, simply drag and drop them from the «Clips» module to the destination group.

If you move a clip from the catalog into a group, the clips will not be removed from the catalog. This is because the catalogs always contain all the clips..

To move and duplicate clips from one group to another you can simply press the «Alt» key during the drag and drop. this will duplicate the clips instead of moving them.

Also please note that you can use the regular copy, cut and paste functions in the «Edit» menu.

Moving groups

Drag and drop a group where you want in the hierarchy of groups. Drag and drop of groups pressing ont the «Alt» key duplicate the groups.

Version 1.3 adds alphabetic classification of groups.

e. Consulting and editing metadata

i. Explanations

ATOMICVIEW supports two kind of metadata: user metadata and file metadata.

User metadata fields are created by the user and saved in the catalog. Each catalog can have its own set of metadata fields. If you need to use the same fields for several catalogs you can either duplicate a catalog or copy and paste the user metadata fields from one catalog to another. User metadata values are never saved in the original files. You can create as many user metadata fields as you want with the field names you need.

On the contrary, file metadata values are saved in the media files and in an internal database shared by all the catalogs. The internal database is used only for quick search and for accessing the metadata values when the original files are offline. However the original file is always considered as the one having the true version of the metadata which means that if a file is modified, the metadata values inside the ATOMICVIEW database is replaced by the new ones in the file.

ATOMICVIEW file metadata support is mostly based on the XMP format defined by Adobe. XMP is fully supported for reading and writing in all formats that can handle it. This means most of the image, sound and video formats. When a format does not support XMP edition, ATOMICVIEW uses sidecar .XMP files for reading and writing. The XMP engine of ATOMICVIEW is fully transactional. In other words before modifying the XMP of a file, it read the old XMP section first, modifies only the fields that are understand by the software and then writes the XMP section back to the file. The result is that non understood metadata values are never lost.

ATOMICVIEW manages IPTC fields mostly through XMP using the remapping table defined by Adobe. This means that several fields in IPTC are directly connected to XMP fields. Since IPTC can be stored outside an XMP block, especially for old JPeg images, ATOMICVIEW is also able to read and to write IPTC directly in JPeg images. In the case of JPeg, ATOMICVIEW always writes both the XMP and the old IPTC section to maintain compatibility with software that do not support XMP.

Regarding EXIF, ATOMICVIEW is able to extract it from JPeg and most of the RAW formats.

Please note also that some values such as the rate (the stars you apply to an image) or the keywords are also automatically saved to the original files using XMP.

Please also note that since version 1.3, EXIF writing is also supported.

ii. «User metadata»

To create or modify new «User metadata»:

From the «Metadata» menu, select «Edit User Metadata fields» Under the metadata module, select in the pop-up menu «User Metadata».Then click on the pen button.

ATOMICVIEW displays a new area where you can add, remove, rename or re-order the current metadata. Changing the order or renaming fields does not lose the connexion between the field and the value. Once the modifications are done, simply click on «Apply Changes» and the database is updated.

iii Metadata palette

ATOMICVIEW allows you to define a preset of the fields you use the most.

From the «Metadata» menu, select «Manage Palettes...»

iv. Metadata export

With ATOMICVIEW you can export and import all the metadata to a format that can be read from a spreadsheet or a database application. This allows you to read or modify the metadata in a different context and then re-import the values later.

To export the metadata go to the «File» menu and select «Export Metadata...». then choose where you want to save the file.

ATOMICVIEW saves the metadata in the .tab file format. In this format metadata fields are divided by tabulation and each clip by a line feed. The first line contains the name of the fields.

At the end of each field name there is a unique ID between parenthesis. This ID is used when you re-import files to reconnect the values with the correct fields.

Once the values are edited from an external application you can re-import the modifications. If you removed some lines, only the clips still there in the .tab file will be updated.

To import the media, select «Import Metadata» from the «File» menu. Then select the .tab file which contains the modified metadata.

v. Metadata templates

You can save as many metadata templates as you want for very fast indexing of your media.

From the «Metadata» menu, select «Manage Templates...».Under the Metadata module select from the pulldown menu on the bottom left part of the module the menu«Create Template with Edited Fields» or «Create Template with All Fields» or «Manage Templates».

Then you simply apply the template by selecting its name from the pulldown menu on the bottom left.

vi. Metadata conflicts resolution

ATOMICVIEW now handles metadata conflicts between the database and the file.

A. You can choose to save the metadata in the database and the files,

B. or only in the database. This last option allows you, for example, to work off-line which means without the files because they are on an unplugged external hard drive.

C. After having edited the database only, you can synchronize the metadata by writing them in the selection of files.

D. The same action but in all the imported files of the catalogue.

E. Here is an option for resolving metadata conflicts that permits you to select by field if you want to keep the change made in the database or otherwise import the change in the file.

When ATOMICVIEW gets to the file, a window appears that lets you choose for each field if you prefer to keep the metadata saved in the database or, on the contrary, the metadata saved in the file. The first value beside de pullldown menu is the metadata stored in the file and the second value is the one stored in the database.

ATOMICVIEW offers other options for resolving conflicts.

F. Either you can choose to always apply metadata saved in the database,

G. or choose those saved in the file.

H. This is a smart option. It keeps the work you have done outside the software only if there is no conflict with a metadata you have edited in the database. If there is a conflict ATOMICVIEW will keep the changes operated in the database.

f. Use keywords

i. Introduction

Besides metadata (see chap. III, E, e), you can also organize and find your media using keywords. This way of indexing your files is very intuitive because you just have to slide keywords directly onto a clip. This system is coupled with a search system (see chap. III, F, b) in which you navigate in your thesaurus and instantly display the corresponding clips.

The words you slide will be saved in the files using a field of metadata “Keywords”. This allows you to consult the keywords in another software program or to recuperate the indexation from another software program.

«Keywords» module:

1 Thesaurus:Cette partie vous permet dʼéditer très facilement votre propre hiérarchie de mots-clés. Par défaut, vous disposez dʼun thesaurus des pays du monde que vous pouvez éditer ou supprimer.

You also have the possibility to integrate a thesaurus of 15ʼ000 entries available on this site http://www.controlledvocabulary.com

2 Display and allocation of keywords on a selection of clipsThis zone shows the keywords attributed to a clip or to a selection of clips. it also allows you to attribute keywords to a selection of clips.

To attribute keywords to a clip, slide the keywords from the thesaurus directly onto the clip of your choice. To attribute keywords to a selection of clips, slide the keywords from the thesaurus into the bottom part of the «Keywords» module.

If you slide a word from your thesaurus that is at the end of the hierarchy, all the keywords upstream will be also attributed. For example, with the following hierarchy of words: «World»- «Europe» - «Switzerland»- «Geneva», just slide «Geneva» and all the other words will follow. If you slide «Europe» the file will be indexed with «Europe» and «World».

See below about the categories and synonyms which are exception to this principle.

ii. Edit the thesaurus

You can edit your thesaurus of words by clicking on the pen button below the thesaurus.

You can add:

➡ Words: those will be indexed in the files when you slide them to a clip or several clips. ➡ Categories: those entity are only used to organize and structure your thesaurus. In

general itʼs useful to add categories at the first level. Categories are not indexed in the files.

➡ Synonyms: those are added after a word to indicate a synonym. For example you can add to the word «Caravan» at the next level as synonyms the words «Convoy» or «Procession». When you drag and drop the word «Caravan» to a clip all the synonyms will also be indexed to the file.

iii. Export/ Import your thesaurus

You can export and import your thesaurus to another software program so as not to waste the time you spent organizing it. ATOMICVIEW offers flexibility by allowing the import of numerous formats of thesaurus.

To export your thesaurus, select «Export Thesaurus» from the «File» menu.

The thesaurus is exported as a text file and you have the choice between several displays of your hierarchy of keywords, in order to facilitate import into another software program.

To import your thesaurus, select «Import Thesaurus» under «File» menu», then select the place on your hard disk where you want this file to be imported.

The option « Merge with current thesaurus» allows you to merge the new thesaurus which you import with the one that you have already created in ATOMICVIEW.

If you do not select this option, the imported thesaurus will replace the current thesaurus

G. ARCHIVE YOUR MEDIA - WORK OFFLINE

ATOMICVIEW is a media cataloguer. It stores all information related to the imported files into a central database. It only works with data, not files, which has the advantage of taking up very little space on your disk.

This also accelerates searches, allows you to duplicate media and create virtual groups without loss of space, to archive the content of many external hard drives and make it available from the software, to view and index offline (in the absence of files), to provide centralized backup of your content, etc. .

Work offline (in the absence of files):

1 ! When you eject your external hard drive this icon appears which inform that the file is not ! available.

The image displayed in the player is the clip, which allows you to view your picture in the absence of the file under very good conditions including in full-screen.

When you connect the external disk, the icon disappears immediately and the player replaces the clip with the file.

2. By using the top left scroll bar you can select the menu «all the conditions» which equals the boolean operator «AND». The menu «any conditions» corresponds to the boolean operator «OR»

3. In addition, for each search field you can define whether the field contains your request or not, the latter corresponding to the boolean operator «NOT». There are also other possibilities such as, for example «begins with», «ends with», «is equal to», «is smaller than», etc. Please note that the fields «is before» and «is after» only apply for the dates.

4. Note that the boolean translation of your search appears just underneath the search fields.

6. When you have finished, press the “Delete” button. You can also decide to save your search and navigate in your hierarchy. The “FIND” module stays active and all the files which match your search criteria will be displayed according to where you find yourself in the hierarchy of files.

The result of your search is displayed instantly on the right and modifies itself as you modify or complete the search fields.

c. Create your smart groups

You can save your search in a smart group that you can place in your hierarchy of groups.

This group is like a «little robot» that searches by level, you can easily move it within your hierarchy and it instantly displays the result at the place where it finds itself.

This evolutive file will automatically integrate all the new files which correspond to the search already saved. You can change the search criteria of the smart folder at any time.

I. PUBLISH YOUR WORK ONLINE

a. Publish your web gallery

ATOMICVIEW integrates a powerful htML generator that can be used to export advanced galleries with full group hierarchies. The galleries can be fully customized, including the appearance, the exported metadata, the language and the media formats. htML galleries supports both images and videos.

ATOMICVIEW can also export a complete online shop ready to work

i Exporting a gallery

To access the HTML Exporter, select «HTML Export...» from the «File» menu.

1 ! The first thing you will see is list of default HTML models. ! A model defines the settings for a specific HTML gallery. Because you may want to use ! different kind of galleries, ATOMICVIEW allows you to create and manage as many htML ! models as you need.

SourceThis allows you to specify what should be exported. It can be:

Export selected groupsThe exporter will export all the clips in the current selected group. If the group contains sub-groups, a hierarchy of groups will be generated in the HTML pages.

Exporter complete catalogThe complete catalog is exported. If the catalog contains sub-groups, a hierarchy of groups will be generated in the HTML pages.

Export selected clipsExports only the selected clips. no hierarchy is generated.

OptionsBasically there are two options:

➡ Export all: this generates all HTML pages, copy and/or convert required media.

➡ Do not export media files: this mode generates only the HTML pages without converting or copying the media files. This mode is useful when you already have a gallery and just want to make a change without having to re-convert all the media. You can select this mode and re-export over the gallery that already has its media generated. Please note this mode will not work if new media has been added or if the group hierarchy has been modified.

Once you have selected the HTML model and the source (selected groups, selected clips or complete catalog), you should specify a gallery name. this will be use the main gallery name inside the HTML pages.

When you are ready, simply click on the «Export» button. ATOMICVIEW asks you to pick up a destination folder where the HTML gallery should be saved. A folder is created inside the folder you picked with the name of the gallery (please note that the name of the folder may be re-arranged due to HTML limitation, for instance spaces will be replaced by underscore and so on).

ii. The anatomy of a HTML gallery

ATOMICVIEW creates two main types of gallery:

➡ Standard gallery: this is a gallery to display images or videos with related metadata.

➡ The online shop: a complete shop with price, product description, etc. linked to the catalog user metadata.

Whilst there are substantial differences between the two models both of them share the same roots.

Basically the HTML exporter tries to reproduce the group structure of the catalog using several levels of HTML pages. There is no limit on the number of levels you can export. When a level contains sub-groups, it will display a menu with one image per group. By default the first available image of the group is used. You can also specify a custom image for each group using the «HTML Export Options» in the group menu..

Clicking on the group allows the users to move deeper in the hierarchy. it is also possible to use tabs at the top of the HTML page. in this case the first level of the group hierarchy will be presented as tabs and the next as a standard group box.

The last level of the hierarchy which contains the actual media and no sub-groups are displayed as a clip menu. This level displays a small preview image and eventually the metadata you decided to export for each clip contained in the group.

When the user selects a clip, a big version of the clip will be displayed This is the single media view where you can watch video and see the image in full size. It is also possible to display metadata in this area (it is even possible to display different metadata fields than the ones that were selected in the clip menu).

You can also add related images or videos that will be displayed as small icons above the big one. The user can thus quickly select a linked image without having to move to another page.

All these options are basically the same for both the gallery and the shop. however the shop uses a different layout for the clip menu and the single media view. Also the shop works only if some specific database fields in the user metadata of the current catalog have been defined (like the price, the product name, etc.). See the «Shop» section for further information.

iii. creating your own HTML model

The default models are very simple models. For instance if you want to export a model with specific metadata or with a different appearance than the default ones, you should create your own model.

To create an HTML model, select «HTML Export...» from the file menu. To create a new model, click on the «New Model...» button. you can also duplicate an existing model simply by dragging it with the ALt key down. then click on the «Edit Model...» button.

Once the HTML model editor is displayed, you can see a window with several tabs. Each tab represents a specific section of the editor:

MainThis is where you set global settings such as the model name, bottom texts and main title logo.

AppearanceThis allows you to change visual settings such as colors, preview size and more...

FormatThis is where you specify how should be converted the images and videos for the online representation.

MetadataThis is where you can choose what metadata should be exported and where.

LanguageThis contains all the setting to create a multi-language gallery or shop.

ShopThis is where you defines the settings to generate an online shop.

In the next chapters, we will cover all the different sections.

You can test the appearance of your model at any time by using the «test» button at the bottom of theHTL editor.

The main optionsThe main tab of the HTML Model Editor offers to set the global parameters.

1. The first tab of the model editor contains the global settings of the HTML model. The first text field can be used to specify a name for the HTML model. This name will never be displayed in the exported HTML pages and is used only inside ATOMICVIEW.

2. The next section allows you to specify two small texts with URL link that will be displayed at the bottom of the page. The first one justified at the left and the second one at the right of the page. If you donʼt require these texts simply clear the content of the text field.

3. The last option allows you to specify a logo that is drawn at the top of the page. Use of a PNG image is recommended. especially if you want transparency in the logo. ATOMICVIEW will not resize the image you set, but it will re-arrange the layout of the page and enlarge it vertically if necessary.

HTML Model Editor,«Appearance»tab:

AppearanceThis is where you define the appearance of the exported HTML pages.

1. The first section allows you to define sizes and global layout values.

First of all you can define the minimal width of the page. When the user resizes the browser, the HTML page content is re-arranged (text and preview justification) until the minimal width is reached. In this case, the page is simply clipped to avoid visual artifacts.

The page border can be used to specify a small border around the page. Please note that the border is not used when the page style is «Outlined».

The preview image width/height can be used to specify the size of the preview box in the clip menu mode. You can specify what values you want. If most of your images use the same ratio, you can obtain a better visual result by using the same ratio for the clip preview. This size is also used for the group icon.

2. The «Use tabs for the first level» option can be used to enable a special mode where the first groups in the export hierarchy is represented as tabs at the top of the page. If you have more than one level of groups and you set this option, only the first level will be displayed as tabs, the next levels will be displayed as standard groups with an icon.

3. The «Visual Settings» can be used to specify the colors and the style of the web pages. You can specify two modes for the style: Solid or Outlined.

Color Wheel :

Then you can choose different colors for the different components of the page layout. In «Outlined» mode the «Page background» color and the «Page border» color are always the same.

If you want to preview the results of your color settings, click on the «Test» button at the bottom of the window.

HTML Model Editor,«Format»tab:

FormatA powerful feature of the HTML exporter is its ability to convert the images or the movies on the fly to the best format you need for your HTML gallery. Basically the exporter will use the «Batch Converter» component to convert and transform the source media.

You can choose different options for the movie or for the image format. If you donʼt want the source to be converted, do not select the «Convert To» check box. However as soon as a transformation is required (like a scale for exemple), the conversion will be enabled. In this case you should specify an output format. To learn more about conversion and transformation see chapter III, D, b)

HTML Model Editor,«Metadata»tab:

MetadataATOMICVIEW allows you to choose what metadata should be displayed in the HTML gallery. This can be any kind of metadata : EXIF, IPTC or catalog user metadata you created yourself.

1. You can also make a different metadata selection for the clip menu mode (where a table of small clips is displayed) or the single media mode (where a single media is fully displayed). The popup menu at the top of the window allows you to toggle between the two modes. Then you only have to drag and drop what metadata should be used from right to left.

2. The clip menu mode has the option «Show Labels». By default, the clip mode does not display the field name in front of the metadata in this mode, because the clip rectangle is small. So for instance if you export «Width» and «Height» you will see only «320» and «240» if you have an image of 320x240. Now if you want to display the label in front of the values you should select the «Show Labels» option. In this case you will see «Width: 320» and «Height: 240» under the clip image.

In single media mode you have another option called «First metadata is used for title». By default, the title of the image is the name of the media file (for instance «image.jpg»). However in some cases you may want to replace this by a title that is not exactly the file name. In this case you can create a custom user metadata field in the catalog, add it here as the first field and select the «First metadata is used for title» option.

HTML Model Editor,«Languages»tab:

LanguagesThe HTML exporter is able to handle multi-language shops or galleries. You can localize not only for the default HTML texts but also all the metadata field name. It is also possible to define localized content for the group name, the metadata and more.

By default, ATOMICVIEW supports three languages: English, French and German (at least for the simple HTML text, you still have to translate some metadata fields in French and German). However you can add as many languages as you want as long as you add the translation yourself.

1. At the top of the HTML editor, you can see a list of checkboxes for all available languages. Only languages that have been selected will be exported. If you want to add a language that does not exist, simply click the «New Language» button.

2. You can find the translation dictionary In the second section of the  the language panel. This is where you can translate all the static texts of the model (including the metadata label name that needs to be exported).

However it is not possible to translate dynamic content here. For example, if you create a user metadata field called «Country» and some images contain the value «Switzerland» in this field, only the name of the field («Country») can be translated. This is because the model does not know in advance which media with which content will be used for the exportation.

The solution to this limitation is to use tags when establishing the value of your metadata. A language tag is always defined between [ ] characters with the language ID inside. For example, if you need to export a gallery in English, German and French, you can write the «Switzerland» value as «[en]Switzerland [fr]Suisse [de]Schweiz». ATOMICVIEW will display the correct value under the «Country» metadata field depending on the current selected language.

You can use the same technique for all the dynamic text in the catalog including group name, gallery name or, of course, metadata content.

ConfigurationsThe generated pages require a browser that supports JavaScript and CSS. We do not use any server oriented technology like PHP. This means that your gallery does not have to be installed on a server to work. For instance, you can write a gallery to a CD-ROM or display it from your hard disk.

b. Publish your online shop

i. Procedure

With ATOMICVIEW you can create a complete online shop. If you have a Paypal account you wonʼt have to write a single line of HTML or web scripting to get it work.. SImply generate the main fields (price, description, etc.), create your database, export the HTML gallery and Hey presto! Your shop is ready !

In shop mode each exported clip will be considered as a product. All the fields required by the shop (like price, description, product name) should be defined as user metadata field inside your catalog. These fields can be created automatically by the HTML Model Editor.

To build a shop from scratch select the catalog where your products should be stored. Select «HTML Export...» from the «File» menu and create or duplicate an HTML model. Edit the HTML model and go to the «Shop» tab.

Basically this will generate all the required fields in the current catalog and link them to the HTML model.

The fields are:

Product numberA field you can use to identify the product, it can be a number or a name

Nom du produitThe name of the product as it should be displayed in the shop

PriceThe price of the product in the currency you selected in the «Currency» popup button

Short descriptionA short description of the product

Long description longueA long description of the product

Options list These are product options like colors or sizes. Simply fill it in with an option list separated by semi-colon (for instance: «Blue;Red;Orange». If you donʼt need it leave it blank.

Do not forget to specify the currency.

Once the fields have been created you can go back to your catalog and find all the shop fields under the Metadata tag in «User Metadata». You can simply select pictures and videos of your products and edit the values from here.

Please note that only the «Option list» can be empty. All the other fields should be filled. When you have filled in all the values, you can export your shop as you export an HTML gallery. Because the shop does not use PHP or server oriented technology, the shop does not have to be uploaded to a server. It can be used from a hard disk or a CD-ROM.

ii. Managing a shop with limited product number

By default the shop works as if there were unlimited copies of a specified product. Whilst this works most of the time, it is not the case if you are selling a unique object or a limited numbers of copies.

If you are using Paypal, there is a mechanism that can be used to manage the number of available copies of a product. If you are not using Paypal see the next chapter.

To implement this mechanism you will need to create and register one Paypal button by product in your Paypal account. Each registered Paypal will include the price and the product name. This means that if you want to modify the price or the name you will have to change it in Paypal and in the ATOMICVIEW database, otherwise different prices will be displayed.

Each registered button in Paypal has a unique ID. This unique ID has to be linked to each product in the catalog.

To do this, open HTML Model Editor, open your shop model and select the «Shop» tab. Then select the «Register product using Paypal hosted button ID». You can ask ATOMICVIEW to add the hosted button ID field to the user metadata catalog. To do so, simply click on the «Create field» button.

Now simply close the HTML Model Editor and go to the user metadata of your current catalog. A new field called «Hoster button id» has been added. You should fill in this value with the unique button ID that you registered on your Paypal account for each product in the catalog.

iii. Building a shop without Paypal

In the current version the payment process has been established only for the Paypal service. However it is possible to redirect all the actions of the shop to another URL of your choice. This will allow you write some PHP code (for instance) that can process the action and redirect it to another service.

To do so open your shop model in the HTML Model Editor and under the «Shop» tab select the option «Send all actions to the following URL». Then enter the URL that should receive the actions. Basically two actions are sent to your URL:

➡ Add to cart: all required values are sent as a POST.➡ Proceed to check out

iv. HTML options for groups

It is possible to set options for each group in the hierarchy that will be used by the HTML exporter. To set these options select a group and from the «Group» menu select «Set HTML Export Options».

The first option is the alternative name. If you want to use a different group name for the web export than the one you set in the catalog you can fill in this field. This process is also pretty useful when you need to export a group in several languages. You can keep the group name inside the catalog as it is, and fill the alternative name in several languages using the tag separators.

The second option allows you to pick an image for the group. By default the HTML exporter uses the first clip in the group. However if you want to use another image, select an image in the catalog and click on «Pick Selected Image». Please note that the image does not need to be part of the group or inside the hierarchy of clips that will be exported. However it should be in the same catalog.

v. HTML options for clips

Each clip can have some options that are used only by the HTML exporter. Select a clip and from the «Clip» menu select «Set HTML Export Options».

This panel can be used to link an alternative image or video to a clip. When it is done, these images will be displayed as small thumbnails under the main media allowing the user to quickly select a different image in the same view. This can be very useful in shop mode when you want to display several images or videos of one single product. To link clips select an image or a video in the catalog and click on «Pick Selected Image». Please note that the media picked does not need to be part of the group or inside the hierarchy of clips that will be exported. However it should be in the same catalog.

J. MANAGING FILES

a. Copy files to your hard disk

You are satisfied with your work and want to give it back to your client? Simple: copy the whole of the project at the place of your choice on your disk. Afterwards, nothing is simpler than to burn this file on a disk or DVD or put it on your external hard disk or your laptop to go and see your client.

Select the clips you want to copy in the «Clips» module. From the «Clip» menu select «Copy Files». Then using the system directory window select the destination folder. ATOMICVIEW will copy all the original files to the specified destination.

Or select the clips and with the right mouse button select «Copy Files...».

b. Moving files

You can use ATOMICVIEW to move your files on the hard disk. The move file function works like the copy function but instead of duplicating the source files, it moves them and then updates the database with the new file paths.

Select the clips you want to copy in the «Clips» module. From the «Clip» menu select «Move Files». Then using the system directory window select the destination folder. ATOMICVIEW will move all the original files to the specified destination.

Or select the clips and with the right mouse button select «Move Files...».

ATOMICVIEW quickly generates new links with the moved files without having to import them again.

c. Search missing files

ATOMICVIEW internally links its clip to the original files using their absolute file path. If you move a file on the hard disk, the software wonʼt be able to find it anymore. If you donʼt want to re-import it you can use the «Search Missing Files» function. This function searches specified folders and their sub folders to re-link the clip in the database to the moved files. In order to correctly identify the files it uses the name, the file size and type and tries to map parts of the parent path to the new searching path.

Most of the time, ATOMICVIEW is able to connect your files automatically. Because of this flexibility, you donʼt have to be very precise when you specify the root folder to search. You can even specify directly the hard disk. However the more precise you are, the faster will be the function.

Select the clip(s) in the «Clips» module. From the «Clip» menu, select «Search Missing Files». Then select the root folder where the search should begin. All sub-folders will also be scanned.Select the clip and press the right mouse button to select «Search Missing Files». Then select the root folder where the search should begin. All sub-folders will also be scanned.

If you modified the organization of your hard disk by moving a lot of files and folders, it is possible that ATOMICVIEW will not be able to find several files any more. You can create new links very easily. Select all the files in the library and call up the «Search Missing Files» function. Then select the hard disk directly. ATOMICVIEW will search all the missing files everywhere on the hard disk without having to re-import files.

d. Management of RAW with JPeg

The RAW file management system has been completely revised since V1.3 of ATOMICVIEW. The main purpose of this revision is to improve the performances by decompressing the RAW content only when the user decides or when there is no other alternative. Also, it is possible now to let ATOMICVIEW manage the RAW and the JPEG sidecar file as one single media entity.

The new strategy is to use all possible alternatives before decompressing de RAW content which is CPU and time consuming. To proceed, ATOMICVIEW will try to (in the following order):

➡ Use the JPeg sidecar file if it is present and accessible.➡ Use the internal database preview if it is big enough.➡ Use the embedded preview if available and big enough.➡ Decompress the RAW itself if all the other strategies failed.

There are settings in the preferences under the «Preview» tab that can be used to refine the process. :

As for other file types, it is possible to specify the size of the preview and the level of compression. The default setting is 1024 which gives good preview quality even when the original file is not available.

The second section can be used to specify the minimal acceptable size for the preview. By default the settings are set to 640x400. This means that if you have a RAW with an embedded preview of 320x200 it wonʼt be used because the resolution is too low. However if it is 640x400 or higher the preview will be used instead of the RAW content which considerably speeds up the import and display functions.

When a preview is displayed in the player, an «Open RAW» button is displayed at the bottom of the area. You can use this function to open and show the RAW content instead of the preview.

The JPeg sidecar file is managed by ATOMICVIEW in exactly the same way as a XMP sidecar file:

➡ If the file is modified outside ATOMICVIEW, the media is re-imported automatically. ➡ All the file functions (Rename, Move, Duplicate) are also applied to the JPEG sidecar file.

IV. DATABASE AND INTERNAL FILES

A. DATABASE STRUCTURE

ATOMICVIEW manages and stores its databases and files in a precise location.

On MacOSX, all the files are stored in the directory «<HOME>/Bibliothèque/Application Support / AntZero».

If you want to move or copy your database to another computer you can simply copy the content of this folder.

The preference, like the contrast of the user interface, are stored in the file named «AtomicViewPrefs.xml». If this file does not exist, ATOMICVIEW will automatically reset the preferences to defaults.

All the local databases are stored in «local» and the cached data linked to distant database (ATOMICVIEW SERVER) are stored in distant.

In «local» you can find the catalogs in the «Catalogs» directory, the metadata in «MetadataDatabases» and the preview images in «MediaDatabases». The file «Thesaurus.azt» contains the thesaurus and is saved at the root of the “local” folder. The file «TempTransDB.atd» is used for temporary operations such as copy/paste or undo.

Since V1.3 all the databases are in SQLite3 format. However it does not mean that you can easily access them directly. For performance reasons, ATOMICVIEW creates several small databases with complex relationships. Trying to modify these databases directly can be dangerous and may corrupt the database structure.

B. EXPORTING COMPACT DATABASE FILE WITH EMBEDDED PREVIEWS

Since V1.3, it is possible to export the complete catalog (or part of a catalog) in a compact file. This file will contain:

This file will contain:

➡ All the file metadata and information➡ The group hierarchies (if enabled in the exportation panel).➡ The preview pictures in low and high resolution (if enabled in the exportation panel).

This file can be re-imported on another computer as a new catalog. If you changed only the metadata you may choose to re-import only the metadata values without creating a new catalog.

In this case, only the metadata database will be updated with the modified fields (such as orientation, metadata, rate, etc.) without having to generate a new catalog and re-import the previews.

V. PERFORMANCES

A. WORKING DURING THE IMPORT OF FILES

Since importing files can take some time, you may already want to start consulting the contents during the import. ATOMICVIEW was conceived to work with parallelism at every level to allow the user to carry out several tasks at the same time.

Furthermore, by default ATOMICVIEW slows down the import automatically when the user interacts with the interface to increase the display fluidity. Thanks to these diverse strategies it is possible to begin work during importation.

However, it is also possible that certain technologies do not permit easy parallelism (as is the case with some Quicktime codecs) and this might slow down the interface during an import (See next chapter for this precise case).

C H A P T E R V - P E R F O R M A N C E S

B. BALANCE SPEED IMPORT

By default, ATOMICVIEW is adjusted for a maximal import speed. The software program will use the maximum of possible resource to carry out the import, the only exception being when the user interacts with the interface. In that case, the import is slightly slowed down to increase user comfort.

However there are situations where this strategy is not ideal. For example with CPU multi-core machines you might want to use another software program during the import. It is also possible that on certain less efficient machines it could be difficult to work during an import.

➡ First, if you wish to work with ATOMICVIEW during an import and put working comfort as your prime criterion before the speed of import, you can select the option «Low (Better Interacitivy During Import)» under the «Performances» tab in the «Preferences» menu. This will slow down the import and give more resources to the system and to the other ATOMICVIEW functions.

➡ Secondly, if you have a computer with a multi-core processor you can ask ATOMICVIEW to use only one core, half of the cores or all of them. ATOMICVIEW uses all the cores by default. In the «Preferences» under the tab «Performances» you can choose with the option « CPU Multi-Core Usage» the number of cores you wish to use. Please note that this option has an impact on the import and also on the performances of the display modes.

C. MEMORY MANAGEMENT

ATOMICVIEW tries to cache the latest loaded clips in order to speed up navigation.

By default, ATOMICVIEW never uses more than 60 % of the main computer memory. Also ATOMICVIEW memory partition will never get bigger than 4 GB. This means that even if you have 8 GB of memory, this percentage is based on the maximum memory limit, which is 4GB.

Please note that with modern operation systems ATOMICVIEW will not permanently use 60 % of your memory. For example if you use another software program for a while ATOMICVIEW will page its memory. In other words it will save it on the disk so as to free memory for the other programs. ICVIEW va paginer sa mémoire, autrement dit la sauver sur le disque afin de la libérer pour les autres.

If 60 % seems to you too low or too high you can change this value in the preferences. It is also possible to it to zero which will oblige the program to continually empty its cache this having a negative consequence on performance but putting the program in minimal memory use.

VI.WORK WITH ATOMICVIEW SERVER

A. INTRODUCTION

ATOMICVIEW SERVER is a software solution for Mac OS X and MS Windows that enable management of a multimedia database accessible from several ATOMICVIEW clients. The server use and maximize the technology present in ATOMICVIEW with a very efficient cache memory.

ATOMICVIEW SERVER is able to automatically manage storage of media on the server as well as the transfer of content to the clients or vice versa.

ATOMICVIEW client allows you to organize, browse and display photos, videos and sounds. In addition, it works as a file server by presenting the unsupported files as icons. This allows you to associate all types of documents to your projects.

Thanks to the high flexibility of interface configuration offered by ATOMICVIEW software, it is possible to choose exactly what clients display and in what form. This may range from the locked full-screen display, ideal for a kiosk, to an interface intended for advanced interoperability with editing software.

Please note that there is also a manual for the administrators. The following chapters are intended to ATOMICVIEW client users and describe the server-specific functions and the articulation between local and distant work.

c. Change password

You may change the password via the menu "Server". Note that the administrator has no access to your password. If you can't remember it you need to contact the administrator to get a temporary password.

d. Auto login

You can check the "Auto Login" option and the ATOMICVIEW client will automatically connect to the server when you launch it.

e. Distant catalogs

Once connected you can see the list of available remote catalogs added to the list of your local catalogs in the "Catalogs" module.

If have the necessary permissions you can create as many distant catalogs as you want. To do this select a distant catalog and select "New Catalogue" from the File menu.

You can tell you're on the distant catalogue by checking if you've got the ATOMICVIEW SERVER logo in the top right main UI and an icon on the remote catalogs in the "Catalogs" module.

C. AUTHORIZATION THROUGH THE SERVER

You can authorize your computer through the server. This has the advantage of allowing the administrator to easily manage the fleet of machines using the administration console. This also simplify the authorization for instead of the serial number you just need your username and access code as for an ordinary connection.

From the demo version slideshow window select "Allow!". Then you must select the option "Allow through AtomicView Server". Enter your user name and access code. If you authorize your computer via the internet you also need to enter the server IP address (see chapter VII, B, b

D. IMPORT / COPY YOUR FILES ON THE SERVER

a. Copy your files on the server

When you import or drag your files on a distant catalog they are copied to the server. This can also be used to backup your files by copying them to a distant computer.

ATOMICVIEW SERVER then handles and organizes files on the hard disk and present them as thumbnails via the ATOMICVIEW client UI.

b. Benefits of cataloging

Once the files are copied the software catalogs files. This means that it retains all the information related to files imported into a central database and it only works with data, not the files.

This speeds up searches, allow you to duplicate clips and create virtual groups without loss of space.

c. Importation of files

You can import your files directly to a distant catalog the same way as for a local catalog(see Chapter III, A, b & c).

d. Inter-context, local catalog to distant catalog

You can drag and drop the clips of a local catalog to a distant one.

By doing so the files and datas are copied to the server.

Alternatively you can also copy (CMD C) clips of a local catalog and paste them (CMD V) directly in the hierarchy of groups of a distant catalog.

Please note that the function cut (CMD X) subtracts the clips of the local catalog

e. Document icons

ATOMICVIEW SERVER presents files for which it doesn't create a thunbnail in the form of icons. This allows you to combine all types of documents to your projects.

Under the "Info" module you can tick the option to show icons documents or otherwise deselect this option to show only thumbnails.

E. METADATA EDITION

a. Principle

If you've got the necessary permission the metadata and keywords edition system works the same as with a local catalog. (see chapters III, E, e and following).

b. Metadata storage

Unlike indexing locally, the option of writing in the files is not available when you are indexing on the server.

To maximize the performances metadata are only stored in the database. The same mechanism applies to keywords.

c. Writing metadata

When you need to download a file locally (see Chapter VII, F, b), the software writes the metadata and keywords in the file (for keywords using the IPTC/ XMP field "Keywords".

F. SHARING YOUR TEMPLATES, PALETTES, WORKSPACES, HTML MODELS

a. Principle

You can share with others users your metadata templates, palettes, workspaces and HTML models by copying them on the server.

Once connected on a server you select a distant catalog and you can then see your metadata templates, palettes, workspaces and HTML models next to the ones created or added on the server. Those last ones appear with thename of the server between brackets. If you also want to share your metadata templates, palettes, workspaces and HTML models with the others users please read the chapters hereunder.

G. WORK ON YOUR FILES

a. Principle

You must take into account the fact that when you see the files in the interface with a connection to the server they are not on your computer. This means that if you want to work on these files by opening them in a edition software you need to download them locally.

This simple operation can be achieved in different ways that we expose here.

b. Reveal file

When you reveal the file ("Clip" menu) the file window shows it in the cache.

When you reveal the file ("Clip" menu) the file window shows it in the cache. The software manages a disk cache on the client computer that is very effective (see Section H below). This allows it to improve performance by avoiding unnecessary transfers of the recently viewed files and data.

Once the file is revealed in the cache you can drag it anywhere on your disk to open it in any software.

c. Copy the file locally

To copy a file locally you can use the "Copy File(s)" function ("Clip" menu). You then choose the file destination.

You can drag the clip outside the interface anywhere you want on your hard disk

d. Open file

You can also open the file with the default software ("Open With Default Application" under "Clip" menu) or the software of your choice (see Chapter III, D, a).

e. Inter-context, distant catalog to local catalog

You can drag and drop the clips of a distant catalog to a local one.

By doing so the files and datas are copied locally.

Alternatively you can also copy (CMD C) clips of a distant catalog and paste them (CMD V) directly in the hierarchy of groups of a local catalog.

Please note that the function cut (CMD X) subtracts the clips of the local catalog. If you forget to paste (CMD V) before ending the ATOMICVIEW session the clips are not lost. You should contact the administrator who can retrieve them using a temporary bin accessible from the administration console.

For all the operations described above the software opens a window that allows you to choose the destination folder.

f. Upload the modified file on the server

You should not forget after editing the file to upload the latest version on the server.(see chapter V, D.).

H. CONVERSION/ TRANSFORMATION OF FILES

The software must download locally the files that you want to transform or convert as ATOMICVIEW SERVER for stability reasons does not make these operations.

As for a local conversion or transformation the software asks you to select the destination folder for the result.

I. DIFFERENCES WITH THE LOCAL CATALOG

Here are the differences between working on a distant catalog and a local one:

➡ The server has no "Directory Groups" as ATOMICVIEW SERVER manages directly the location of imported files on the distant computer. The files are easily accessible from the client interface ATOMICVIEW.

➡ There are no specific functions for working offline. The files are accessible only when you are connected to the server. You can always copy the files locally (see Chapter VII, F, E) by choosing an external drive and then work offline.

➡ There is no metadata conflict resolution. The metadata are stored in the ATOMICVIEW SERVER database (see Chapter VII, E, b). They are written in the files only when you download them locally (see Chapter VII, E, c).

➡ ATOMICVIEW SERVER displays by default unsupported formats (see chapter III, A, h). If youʼve got the necessary permission you can change this preferences.

J. CACHE MANAGEMENT

ATOMICVIEW SERVER maintains a system of high-performance disk caching which improves performances and avoid unnecessary transfers. Specifically it copies locally the files, clips, and data. in a disk cache. You can determine the maximum size of local cache or choose to empty it manually via the menu "Server"
