Versus Mississippi: Today’s game is the sixth of 17 contests between the Generals and Braves in 2015, and the first of 10 in Pearl...Mississippi took three of four in a rain-shortened set at The Ballpark at Jackson in April before Jackson won the opener of this six-game series Monday..The Generals hit their first two home runs of the season in a 5-4 win in seven innings April 16. The next night, catcher Carlton Tanabe took the loss in a 12-inning defeat...All five games have been decided by four or fewer runs...Mallex Smith, who was acquired by Atlanta this offseason, has 12 hits in 25 at-bats with a home run, a triple and five steals in five games against the Generals. Let’s Play Two: This is only Jackson’s second doubleheader of 2015, but the Generals and Braves did play two games on one day in Jackson April 16. The first contest was the continuation of a suspended contest from the night before, which Jackson lost 6-4 in nine innings before the Generals came back to win the second game 5-4 in seven innings...The Generals split a doubleheader against the Tennessee Smokies May 17, which each team winning in shutout fashion. Moises Making History: Moises Hernandez will set a new franchise record when he throws his first pitch in game two of today’s doubleheader. It will be his 141st career appearance with the Generals over five seasons since he was signed by the Mariners in 2011...Hernandez, the older brother of Mariners’ ace Felix Hernandez, entered 2015 with 126 career appearances with Jackson, trailing only Nick Hall (133) and Mumba Rivera (140)...Hernandez will set the record against one of his former teams. The righty went 2-2 with a 5.94 ERA in 10 starts with the M-Braves in 2007...He was acquired by the Braves from the Orioles in 2006 as compensation for Baltimore signing Atlanta hitting coach Leo Mazzone. PAO!: Dan Paolini continues recent offensive success continued in Jackson’s 5-2 victory on Monday with two hits and a walk in three at-bats in the series opener...Two days off did not cool down one of the league’s hottest hitters, who has now reached base in 17-straight game. Since May 11, Paolini is hitting .351 with 11 RBIs and 11 walks in 17 games...The streak is the longest active streak in the Southern League...Dario Pizzano’s 25-game hit streak remains the longest on-base streak of any player in the circuit this season...On Tuesday, Paolini also made his professional pitching debut and even picked up one strikeout in Jackson’s 14-1 loss to Montgomery. Miller Makes Impression: The Generals added the services of speedy outfielder Ian Miller on May 28 when Jabari Henry was placed on the seven-day disabled list, and he has made an immediate impact...In three games with Jackson, he is 4-for-10 with a double, a triple, three runs and two steals...He has had two hits in each of his two starts with Jackson...Though he hasn’t played in a Cal League game since last week, Miller leads the circuit with 21 steals in 26 attempts. Austin Bousfield, who ranks second, has just 14 swiped bags...Miller hit .296 with five doubles and two triples over 39 games with the Blaze, including a .330 mark in the month of May. Reinheimer Rakes: A lack of experience has not held Jackson shortstop Jack Reinheimer back. Despite playing just 20 games at High-A last year, Reinheimer leads Jackson with 56 hits and 22 multi-hit games...He drove in the go-ahead run with an eighth-inning double last night, giving him his third three-hit game of the sea- son...He has played in 46 of Jackson’s 49 games, and he is fourth in the league with 196 at-bats.
