Classroom Screens Last Thursday was a very exciting day for the students of Birrahlee and Walabi as new interactive screens were installed in both classrooms. The new screens look amazing and will be an invaluable tool to increase student engagement and enhance learning outcomes. We thank Mr Michael Fagan and his team for installing the screens so efficiently. Today new screens are currently being installed in the library, Cooinda, Nuninoona and Tangalla. The school very much thanks the significant contribution made by the P&C to fund the purchase of the new screens.

P&C Grants The school received great news earlier in the week that the P&C was successful in gaining a $1,200 grant through Telstra for the school. The money is to be used for new home readers for students in K-3. Thank you to Mrs Naomi Poole and her team for putting together the grant application. Naomi always goes above and beyond for our wonderful students!

Parent/Teacher Meetings This year, the school will be once again be conducting parent/teacher interviews at the end of Term One. This allows our teachers the opportunity to share with parents the strengths and areas for improvement of our students at the early stages of the year, rather than when reports go home at the end of Term Two. Parents will be provided with vital information about their child’s learning during the early stage of Semester One, which will assist in developing learning goals for their child and address the steps to achieving them. Also, over the next couple of weeks, students who have individual learning plans (indigenous students) will be meeting with their teacher to discuss their goals for 2019. Parents will also be contacted to contribute their thoughts and ideas to the goal setting process. Our whole school goal is to ensure that all school stake-holders are active contributors to the learning, achievement and growth of our students. Together we are all partners in the learning process.

Get to Know the Teacher Students in Cooinda will be each week interviewing a member of the Jamberoo staff to provide the students, and the school community greater insight into the lives of our teachers. First up is our newest staff member, Mrs Jacinta Milligan.

Swimming Carnival A fantastic day was had by all at last week’s school swimming carnival. Beautiful weather, enthusiastic students, helpful parents and great organisation contributed to a day of fun for everyone involved. Thank you to the parents who volunteered on the day and gave up their time. Thank you to the students who participated in events, cheered on their fellow house mates and demonstrated outstanding behaviour. Finally, thank you to the staff and in particular Mrs Behl-Shanks for running such a well organised and inclusive swimming carnival. A wonderful day was had by everyone involved!

Kindergarten Students Congratulations to our Kindergarten students who have spent just on three weeks here at school. It is always a daunting thing for children to start school and I have been very impressed with how well the Kindergarten students have adapted to school life and how smoothly the transition has been. Keep up the great work Kindies!

Lock Down Drill A successful lockdown drill was conducted yesterday at 1:15pm. All classrooms had lights off and the students were very calm and patient throughout the process. Students and teachers fitted snuggly in storerooms which meant that they were out of sight. Thank you to everyone involved in the drill.

Mathletics 2019 This year we will be using the online Mathletics program to support our classroom maths lessons. Students have access to a full set of curriculum activities, aligned to the Australian Curriculum. Mathletics engages students with its games, and apps in the play area target maths fluency. The cost of the program is $16 per student. Could all students please make payment online, or paid to the office, no later than Friday 15 March.

District Swimming Carnival This Friday 22 February, twenty-seven of Jamberoo's finest swimmers will be making their way to Albion Park Pool. Mrs Ruming will meet the team at the pool. Please ensure your child is signed in and out with Mrs Ruming. First marshalling is at 8.45am, and we encourage Jamberoo swimmers to be there ready to support their team-mates. We wish our swimmers all the best as they represent our school against the other 10 schools in our Tongarra sports community.

School Swimming Scheme Congratulations to the thirty three sensational swimmers from Year 2 and 3 that participated in the School Swimming and Water Safety scheme over Weeks 2 and 3. These students demonstrated their growth mindset as they tackled challenges, stepped outside their comfort zone and faced great endurance with the physical exhaustion that came from participating in this valuable activity. The improvements made were quite remarkable (and I don't just mean the fact that we managed to return with our own shirts, socks and hats in the second week). Certificates reflecting their achievements will be awarded at next week's school assembly (1st March).

Jamberoo Swimming Carnival Whether the student's aim was to participate in a race, earn a PB time, swim a race with a recognisable stroke, earn a ribbon or place in the representative team, there were many success stories at last Friday's school swimming carnival. Well done, Jamberoo students. Thanks to the many parents, friends and supporters that joined in the fun and helped to make the day run so smoothly by assisting. The age champions and winning house will be announced at next Friday's school assembly (1st March), and a results list of those attaining ribbons at our carnival will be posted on Class Dojo shortly.

UOW Debating Day Next Monday, twelve of our Stage 3 debaters will be heading off to UOW training day, to learn more about the skills involved in debating. The students will be meeting Mr Speirs at the meeting area (the courtyard outside building 19/24) at 8.45am. The day will finish at approximately 2pm. We hope the squad have fun, and that the day helps them to perfect their gift of the gab.

Library News Week 4 We have enjoyed another wonderful week of learning in the library. Students have learned and are practising procedures for browsing and borrowing, including self-return and self-checkout. We have been working towards the goal of having all students (Kinder included) able to log onto the school laptops and senior classes are working confidently in digital applications to access and collaborate on tasks. This week we purchased headphone sets for all laptops. Our History units have begun, and we are looking forward to some exciting and interesting investigations. The big news is that we are expecting our new screen very soon, so thank you to the P&C for supporting this. Last but not least, our wonderful parent helpers have been working hard and sorted out the junior fiction section already! We are so thankful for your help. If you would like to volunteer, please feel free to get in touch.
