JAMES 1:9-119 Believers in humble circumstancesought to take pride in their highposition. 10 But the rich should takepride in their humiliation—since theywill pass away like a wild flower.
JAMES 1:9-1111 For the sun rises with scorchingheat and withers the plant; itsblossom falls and its beauty isdestroyed. In the same way, the richwill fade away even while they goabout their business.
JAMES 1:16-1816 Don’t be deceived, my dearbrothers and sisters. 17 Every goodand perfect gift is fromabove, coming down from the Fatherof the heavenly lights, who does notchange like shifting shadows.
JAMES 1:16-1818 He chose to give us birth throughthe word of truth, that we might be akind of firstfruits of all he created.
RICH JESUS,
POOR JESUS
DID THEY GREW UP
RICH OR POOR?
NOT RICH OR POOR,
GODLY OR UNGODLY
FOUR
CATEGORIES
OF PEOPLE
(1) THE GODLY POOR
(2) THE UNGODLY POOR
(3) THE GODLY RICH
(4) THE UNGODLY RICH
GODLY OR
UNGODLY
2 CORINTHIANS 8:9
9 For you know the grace of our LordJesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, sothat you through his poverty mightbecome rich.
GODLY
POOR
THE GODLY POOR
WILL BE EXALTED
BOAST IN THE
LORD
“A paradox is truth standing on its
head, shouting for attention.”
-G.K. Chesterton
God sees you not where you are,but where you will be when he’sdone with you. Our identitycomes from God not by what weachieve.
Don’t get your identity from the culture around you.
We’re not great, but He is.
BOAST IN YOUR
EXALTATION.
UNGODLY
RICH
THE UNGODLY RICH
WILL BE
HUMILIATED
EXAMPLES ON HOW
WE PURCHASE OUR
IDENTITY
(1) Getting our identity through
CLOTHING
(2) Getting our identity through
the TECHNOLOGY we own
(3) Getting our identity through
our APPEARANCE
YOU ARE THE
BELOVED.
ALWAYS LIVE WITH
THE END IN MIND
To avoid deception,
you need to
familiarize
yourself with the
truth.
THREE THINGS
THAT WE NEED TO
REMEMBER
(1) He does not CHANGE.
When He decides to love us, whenHe decides to seek us, when hedecides to serve us, when hedecides to save us, He doesn’tchange.
(2) What you have is what He has
GRANTED.
It starts with God’s generosity, and he gives gifts. You don’t needto do anything to make God giveyou gifts. God is a God who lovesto give gifts.
Everything that we have is agift—salvation, eternal life, theHoly Spirit, the saving power ofJesus, the Scriptures.
(3) His greatest gifts are
PEOPLE.
Ultimately, the greatest gift thatcomes down from above is Jesus, and the greatest gift that Godgives is people.
All the glory goes to God, butgratitude can go to his faithfulservant.
1 TIMOTHY 6:6-10
6 But godliness with contentment isgreat gain. 7 For we brought nothinginto the world, and we can takenothing out of it. 8 But if we havefood and clothing, we will be contentwith that. 9 Those who want to getrich fall into temptation and a trap
1 TIMOTHY 6:6-10and into many foolish and harmfuldesires that plunge people into ruinand destruction. 10 For the love ofmoney is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, havewandered from the faith and piercedthemselves with many griefs.
Godliness with contentment is
great gain.
