PORTFOLIO/RESUME/QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
BLU COMMUNICATIONS / KIADecember 2007 I was hired by Jonathan Bogo from BLU COMMUNICATIONS to manage the production of his FSI launches for KIA MOTORS. I had to create realistic composites to reflect a lifestyle suitable to the demographic that would purchase each individual vehicle. Each campaign would produce an average of 5,000,000 copies. I was also responsible for creating logos, wordmarks and type treatments that would accompany each campaign. The artwork produced would then need to be modified to fit within the framework of kia.ca. In addition I produced Kia’s Quarterly Newsletter, Fleet Brochures and dealership POP materials.

DIVER MAGAZINEAugust 2006 I was hired by Phil Nuytten in Vancouver, BC to Art Direct his publication, Diver Magazine. It’s a formidable opportunity, taking total creative control of a multi-national publication. Phil Nuytten is an extremely interesting man to work with, however most of his energy is directed towards developing his submarines and scuba equipment, which leaves very little of his direct influence in the publication. I had to quickly learn the dynamics of publishing from subscriptions to distribution, media kits to ad management while independently juggling the editorial, editing images, and...staying creative! It’s refreshing to work with nature and it compelled me to design a magazine with large bleeding images accompanied by clear legible copy.
AUG 2006 - DEC 2008
CC MAGAZINEJanuary 2005 I was presented with an opportunity to work in publishing again as a Senior Editorial Designer for arguably, one of North America’s most controversial publications, Cannabis Culture Magazine. This position evolved into Senior Designer / Production Manager. Major changes were made to the publication, steering it away from it’s taboo content, by introducing it to Pop-Culture. These efforts led to the magazine being re-branded and re-designed with the youth culture in mind. I designed the new masthead logo and redeveloped their subscription and advertising campaigns. I designed all the feature articles and sourced photographers and illustrators. In production I assembled the page layout and ad placement, prepared the magazine for web press specifications and monitored the printing as well as quality control.
JAN 2005 - AUG 2006
PERLY’S MAPSSeptember 2002 I was offered a job as the Senior Designer/Production Manager for Perly’s Maps. I was the sole designer and production person, for a small company with a huge production. It was a tremendous workload, with over a dozen annual publications. This forced me to create effective templates and well planned production methods. Once harmony was established I focused on product development and business to business production, Customized Maps and Mapbooks. This bold new method of creating multiple functions for a generic product led to the creation of the Harley Davidson’s 100 Year Anniversary Mapbook: RIDE GUIDE, distributed with each Harley purchased that year in Ontario and Quebec. Several other unique products developed during this time; the Golf Guide, the Arena Guide and the popular Restaurant Guide. Acute delegation of cartographic assignments made these fine tuned variations possible. I would also be responsible for film, plates, color separation, quality control, press-proofs, folding and bindery. I registered ISBN numbers and created UPC and EAN barcodes for each volume. Oversized production and complicated folding was introduced when Perly’s Maps launched their Foldout Series. The company was eventually bought by Random House, and I left with a complete understanding of print publishing and distribution.
SEP 2002 - DEC 2004
PRINT THREEAugust 1998 my first job out of school was with Print Three where I controlled the Docutech Printer and managed digital operations including imposition, and if I was lucky some minor design. Proving to be industrious I was promoted to Print Three’s sister store, Le Print Express. At this location I independently supervised the office staff and managed their existing clients. With resources to my access I launched a successful advertising campaign attracting new accounts and maintained strong relationships with them.
