Arklow Shipping - History
Arklow Shipping was founded in 1966 as a management company for the Arklow based shipowning family businesses in existence since the Eighteenth Century.
Over the years the company has built up a fleet of modern singledeck, box hold vessels ideally suited for the carriage of Fertilisers, Grain, Steel, Aggregates, China Clay, Woodpulp, Coal, Chemicals, Etc.
The fleet operates mainly within Northern Europe with principal management based in Arklow.

east coast of Ireland, half-
way between Dublin and
Rosslare (72 Kilometres)
and lies on the designated
Euro Route 1 between
these two centres.

In 2000, the Arklow Shipping Group acquired the entire
share capital in Hanno Shipping
(a shipping company based in Rotterdam).
The transaction resulted in the acquisition of ten ships, and
gives the AS Group a significant and strategic presence in
Rotterdam.
The AS Group has implemented its management
information systems at Arklow Shipping Nederland to ensure
the key success factors that currently exist at our Arklow
based operations.

Challenges facing our industry
Our Wish List / Moan List for the future
Vessels undertaking short international voyages may at each port have the following visitors:-
Agent, Port State, Port Health, Ship Chandler, Flag State Control, River Police, Pollution
Control, Union Representative, Customs and Immigration, Draft Surveyors, Cargo
Superintendents, Hold Inspectors, ISPS Enforcement Officers, Bunker and Fresh Water
deliveries.
Port state visits have had a very beneficial effect on good ship management but there are times when we feel it can be over the top and insufficient regard is given to the hours of rest of the Officers who attend on them. (Two recent examples both in Europe, one north, one south…..)
Pre-arrival forms for port entry.
While you are all gathered here, please consider adopting one small standard e-mail friendly form.
ISPS….all ships must meet the requirements of the ISPS code with security between ship and shore visitors. Why do some ports charge the ship for ports ISPS costs?
Disposal of waste and waste oil is a major problem in some ports.
