Over 5,000 vehicles have been stranded at different places on the highway and no fresh traffic is being allowed, the officials said. Jammu and Kashmir police discussed what is informal- ly referred to as a ‘G-Plan’ during at least two top-level meetings in December, said senior government function- aries. The ‘health of Geelani’ will remain a talking point within the administration in 2020, as was the concern in past few years. His ‘funeral gathering’, an official said, cannot be allowed to get out of control. “How to go about it (funeral gathering) was discussed at the meetings, like many oth- er issues that have to be dealt with in 2020,” a senior gov- ernment functionary told. The govt gets regular up- dates on his health and has prepared a blueprint on the preparedness for his funeral. “We have to remain alert in case of any development. We have to think ahead and be prepared for any scenario,” a senior police official told. Iltija, a Special Security Group protectee, said she had sought permis- sion to visit her grandfather’s grave in the Bijbehara area of Anantnag district. “I have been detained at home and not allowed to move any- where,” Iltija told. However, Additional Direc- tor General of Police (Law and Order) Munir Khan de- nied that Iltija was detained and said “the Anantnag dis- trict administra- tion did not give clearance for her visit”. “We also have to keep in mind that she is an SSG protectee who has to take police clearance before visiting anywhere,” Khan added. The minimum tempera- ture increased on Thursday across the Kashmir valley owing to a cloud cover, an official of the Meteorologi- cal department here said. He said Srinagar city recorded the low of minus 2.8 degrees Celsius on Wednesday night up from minus 4.4 degrees Celsius the previous night. The official said the ski-re- sort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded the low of minus 8.6 degrees Celsius on Wednesday night near- ly four degrees up from the previous night’s minus 11.0 degrees Celsius. Gulmarg continued to be the coldest recorded place in the valley, he added. The night temperature at Pahalgam resort, which also serves as one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath Yatra in south Kashmir, settled at a low of minus 6.4 degrees Celsius up from minus 6.9 degrees Cel- sius, he said. Rain, snowfall prediction for J&K; Srinagar

Srinagar, Jan 2 : There was some respite from cold wave in Kashmir as the minimum temperatures increased slightly across the valley even as the Met department predicted rain and snowfall from Thursday onwards. The minimum tempera-ture increased on Thursday across the Kashmir valley owing to a cloud cover, an official of the Meteorologi-cal department here said. He said Srinagar city recorded the low of minus 2.8 degrees Celsius on Wednesday night up from minus 4.4 degrees Celsius the previous night.

The official said the ski-re-sort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded the low of minus 8.6 degrees Celsius on Wednesday night near-ly four degrees up from the previous night’s minus 11.0 degrees Celsius. Gulmarg continued to be the coldest recorded place in the valley, he added.The night temperature at Pahalgam resort, which also serves as one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath Yatra in south Kashmir, settled at a low of minus 6.4 degrees Celsius up from minus 6.9 degrees Cel-sius, he said.

New Delhi, Jan 2 : Chief of De-fence Staff (CDS) General Bi-pin Rawat on Thursday met with all three service chiefs and directed to prepare a proposal for setting up of an Air Defence Command for all three forces, Indian Air Force, Indian Army and In-dian Navy. Jammu, Jan 2 : The Pakistan Army shelled mortars along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, a defence spokesman said on Thursday. The Indian Army retaliated to the shelling that took place on Wednesday night. “Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing of small arms and shelling with mortars along the LoC in Krishna Ghati sector in district Poonch around 2100 hours on Wednesday,” the spokesman said. The firing stopped at 2330 hours.
