Purpose To create an installation that showcases, educates and pushes the boundaries of Ontario-sourced wood, while highlighting the works of selected Ontario Wood partners.
Project Brief OverviewThe objective of the Ontario Wood call for submission is to select a team to design, build and install a temporary installation at IDS18 (January 17-20, 2019 in the South Building, Metro Toronto Convention Centre).
The Interior Design Show (IDS) is Canada’s premier showcase of new products, innovative designers and avant-garde concepts from North America and beyond. This past year, over 53,000 trade professionals, influential consumers and media attended the event to be inspired by the latest products and connect with suppliers and manufacturers.
The selected design team will receive an honorarium of up to $25,000 (CDN) to realize the project, inclusive of all costs associated

with the design, manufacture and installation of the pavilion in situ at IDS. This design honorarium includes: applicable duties and costs associated with the design, management, transportation to and from IDS, lighting & electrical, rigging, supervision, installation, dismantling, disposing of materials and any damage to the show floor or other parts of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. With sufficient written notification and coordination, some additional costs may be offset by Ontario Wood partners with the provision, installation, dismantling, etc. of their own products.
The selected design team must abide by all IDS Exhibitor Kit regulations and deadlines. (Link to online kit will be provided in mid-November.)
Proposals Must Include• A clear outline of your project and design concept (one page max.)• A description of how your intended project relates to the target audience and how they will engage with the project.• An overview of the team and your design practice.• A budget outlining how you intend to distribute the honorarium across the project.• A project timeline (i.e., critical path) demonstrating an understanding of how the deliverables will be achieved.• Any visual materials required to support the installation, curation and presentation of the exhibit.

Details• Floor space provided is up to 35' X 40' (raw space). • Design must incorporate 10-20 Ontario Wood partners.• Selection of partners will be at the discretion of the design team. However, a final list of partners should be approved by Ontario Wood/IDS. A list of interested Ontario Wood partners can be found in the Appendix.• All wood and wood-derived materials incorporated into the exhibit design must originate from Ontario.• Move in date/time: Sunday Jan 14, 8am-11am (time to report to the marshaling yard) • Installation to be complete by 8pm Wed Jan 16.• Exhibit must be staffed by one or members of the design team at all times during show hours.• Ontario Wood staff will be at the exhibit at all times during show hours. All partners must ensure their availability at IDS during show hours. • The IDS operations team must give prior approval to the selected design. Marketing Provided by IDS Team• Promote the selected design team as a partner of the Ontario Wood special feature,• Marketing support (namely, logo identification and/or IDS-prepared editorial on the Ontario Wood installation) in the following: – Preview Guide: editorial will be dedicated to the feature (150,000 copies distributed with The Globe and Mail, The Toronto Star, Designlines and on site). – IDS website: one-page Virtual Press Office (VPO) and press releases (opportunity to post bio/photos/press releases). – Social media including Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Facebook (partner to provide content a few weeks prior). – Extended exhibitor listing on the IDS website.
• Other opportunities as they arise (i.e., project video and targeted media).• Provide 10 complimentary tickets to the public days and 8 complimentary tickets to the opening preview reception.
Ontario Wood partners were notified of a Request for Proposals to design a feature space at IDS19. To offer a potential designer a wide array of product no pre-qualifying or judgements were made by the Ontario Wood team. This list signifies a willingness to provide product where called upon in the winning design. Other potential partners that may have missed the call can be found at ontario.ca/wood.
