2 Designed To Color

In a nutshell, we love to feature companies in the craft industry that are fan favorites or up and coming stars by sharing an interview with the creators as well as showcasing their products with creations by our Color Crew. Frequently, these companies will generously share a great discount or even a freebie for our subscribers!

The companies below are part of our special Hue’s Who alumni, so make sure you check them out! We love them and have seen an increase in submissions featuring their products after they’ve been showcased. It’s great to see our readers loving them as much as we do! We just want to thank each one for their support of our magazine as we approach our 1 year anniversary. Thank you for helping us make our debut such a success. It’s with your support and encouragement that we continue to grow!!

So we have some big news in this issue - we are going QUARTERLY! This allows us to provide more content including more articles & tutorials while continuing to provide you with the beautiful inspiration including all the detailed lists of coloring mediums you have come to expect!

We are beyond thrilled to have the very talented, and Copic Certified, Jennifer Dove providing us with amazing Copic coloring techniques in each issue, so be sure to check out our newest feature “Jennifer’s Copic Corner” on page 34.

As soon as you picked it up or flipped thru it, you most likely noticed that this issue is our largest yet! We have 52 pages of amazing inspiration in this issue--AND it is also our FIRST anniversary issue!!

We can hardly believe it has been a year since our launch and it continues to be an amazing journey. I hope you will stick by us as we have some VERY special surprises coming up. We will also have an open call this spring as our first Challenge Crew’s term comes to a close.

Check out our Color Crew as they share some of their coloring spaces on page 8 as well as Lisa McKinney as she walks you through step by step in creating your own Light Box using supplies you probably already have lying around the house on page 6!

Please email me if you have any suggestions for upcoming issues or even want to tell us what you think; we love to feature happy mail from our readers!

As Always..... Happy coloring,

Editor’s Choice

The next card that caught my eye is Red Balloon by Judith Gowdy (featured on page 48) with the white on white design and just some simple washi tape as an accent. Her coloring takes center stage on this card that could really be for any occasion. Just goes to show you don’t have to have loads of embellishments to make an impact.

Both of these ladies will receive a special prize pack from Designed To Color with their complimentary issue! We almost always have an open call going and if not, we do have challenges each month on our blog. We can’t wait to feature you, but it won’t happen if you don’t take a chance and submit...so what are you waiting for?

HIVE BEEN THINKING OF YOU! by Jan Hunnicuttwww.jans-gonestampin.blogspot.com

RED BALLOON by Judith Gowdywww.jgsnook.blogspot.com.au

I am really excited about this new feature - we have so many amazing cards come in that we ooh & a over them all. Here are

a couple that really caught my eye for this issue. The Hive Been Thinking of You card by Jan (featured on page 21) is striking with the black, yellow & white color scheme! I love how she kept her card clean and simple really making it pop. I also love how she lined the envelope in matching pattern paper creating a custom & elegant one of a kind card.

When some people create, they like a nice clean environment, not this girl! I like to create at my little green desk with baners and papers and photos of things that inspire me right up in my face! I love color and I love patterns. I love to be inspired by both of these things, even if I’m just doing a simple coloring job on a flower. I’m big into “thrifting” and that is where I found my desk and desk organizer. there is nothing wrong with a little second hand love. Of course, you can never, ever under any circumstance have enough Hello Kitty.

Lisa McKinneywww.lisabeesponderings.blogspot.comMy crafting space is my beautiful desk that my husband made for me! It’s huge and custom designed to include a shelf underneath for all my paper containers. My primary medium (Copics) are kept in a 14”x11”x3.25” plastic box. I have over 100 Copics (Ciao & Sketch) and they easily fit in this -- of course if I get many more, I’ll need another box! But it keeps them nice and flat and because the box is clear, I can look through the sides of it to find the color I need.

Rhea Weigandwww.passionatepapercreations.blogspot.com

I just discovered this wonderful way to organize my Copic Markers!!! Seriously awesome! It is a double deep Art Bend. To hold and separate the markers I have a grid for a Florissant light that I got from Home Depot. The grid is cut 19 squares by 19 squares with 4 square dowels in each corner. There are rubber bands around the dowels to hold the grid in place and I glued the dowels to the bottom of the Art Bend with E6000 adhesive. Since I have mine slanted on a shelf I shimmed the bottom of the grid with chip board so the weight of the markers won’t shift. This holds every color of Copic except for the blender if you have the flourescence colors. I do not have them so I have room for my multi liners. When you want to go color with friends, put the lid on and go! If you use a coupon the total cost for organizer is about $30. I got this idea from my friend Jennifer.

From main dishes and salads to the final decorative touch on a dessert, lemon zest is used in the culinary world to add that extra bite of flavor and pop of color. The word zest seems to be

synonymous with vim, vigor and vitality. Having a zest for life is a bold and intense passion for living. The color “lemon zest” brings to mind bright sunshine and citrus hues. Whether used as a primary color or as a supporting tone, Lemon Zest is being seen all over the paper crafting world. It’s just a happy color!
