Creating Connections
Through Christ
Reflections from Pastor Penny
Dear PCPH friends,
The pastor placed two identical jars on the table next to the
pulpit. He quoted 1 Samuel 16:7, “God judges persons differ-
ently than humans do. Men and women look at the face;
God looks into the heart.” (Msg) “These jars came from the
same factory, were made of the same materials, and can
hold the same amount. But they are different,” he explained.
Then he upset one and it oozed out honey. He turned over
the other, and vinegar spilled out. “When a jar is upset, what-
ever is in it comes out. Until the jars were upset, they looked
alike. The difference was within and could not be seen. When
they were upset, their contents were revealed.”
“Until we are upset, we put on a good front. But when we are
upset, we reveal our innermost thoughts and attitudes.”
What if someone tipped you over today? What would flow
out? Would you reveal the “honey” of grace and patience,
or the “vinegar” of anger and criticism?
Have you noticed that, after becoming acquainted with
someone who has a kind and gracious heart, his or her outer
appearance is unnoticeable? Conversely, if someone is
critical, or rude, or negative, we may notice every flaw and
consider that person unattractive.
We can’t control the attitude of others, but we can allow
God’s grace and love to shine from within our hearts. Grant-
ed, sometimes it’s difficult. Sometimes we struggle to dispel
our anger, avert our criticism, or adjust our attitude. And
sometimes we need to be reminded to hand it all over to the
Lord, who loves us so very much.

As a part of the PCPH Women’s Missions, the coordinating
team has started a mission project in which we are hoping all
the women of the church will want to participate.
In addition to the needed food items, which the church so
generously provides F.E.A.S.T. each month, a container will be
placed in the Narthex for your donations. This month we would
appreciate receiving deodorant and/or shampoo for both
men and women.
Thank you for your support.

Quilting for Comfort
This is a multi-generational group that is making quilts for our high school graduates. We want to enjoy fellowship while show-ing our support for the youth of our church. No experience
needed, just a love for this church and our youth. If you ever wanted to learn to quilt, please consider joining us. Bring your
cutting board and other cutting tools if you have them.
Join us Tuesday mornings at 9:30am in Fellowship Hall!
So, PCPH family, in this new year full of new hope and new begin-
nings, let us cultivate our attitudes of gratitude together! And also
together, let us continue to walk beside God’s great gift of love to
us, Emmanuel, God-with-us.
With hope and joy in 2017,
Pastor Penny

ECHO farms in Ft. Myers, Florida
Our church mission group has sponsored ECHO for a number of years. Every year we have
“introduced” the farm to you and have urged you to visit and take an educational tour. This
year I decided to tell just a few of the stories from the website in hopes you will explore the site
for yourselves to learn of the world-wide efforts to Feed the World.

Replanting after Hurricane Matthew—10/16/2016
There are many ECHO community members and organizations responding—networking is im-
portant to ensure all communities are covered and duplication of effort is avoided. Response
(trees and seeds) must be organized into short, medium and long term depending on access to
land, available seeds/seedlings, time of year, available water (irrigation and rainfall), soil salinity,
particularly near the ocean after a storm and cultural preferences. Really nice to know some-
one is organizing all this to see dollars are well-spent. All this has been printed out in an English,
Spanish and French in a brochure to be distributed to groups.
From West Africa—8/31/16 from a local woman who was taught by an ECHO volunteer regard-
ing the ability to have fresh vegetables throughout the year.
This woman was taught by the volunteer to utilize used tires for planting. She obtained 10 tires
and planted sorrel, moringa*, cowpea, and okra. She realized a great cost savings and fresh
vegetables at any time of the year. The children became healthier with the use of the moringa,
so visits to the clinic were fewer. She shared with her neighbors and they began to spread the
word.
There are many more stories from all over the world on the website. Please check it out.
*Moringa is a tree that grows here in Florida and every part of the tree is usable. One of the
members of the Palm Harbor Garden Club has a moringa in her yard and has cuttings available.
