The Chapter Directors It is so hard to believe that 2016 has come to an end. Is it just me, or are the years going by quicker and quicker. I can remember, just like it was yesterday, that the days went by so slow. I thought I never would get out of 7th grade. My teachers were also afraid that I would not get out of 7th grade either. After my second try, they pushed me through to the 8th somehow. The days went by so slow back then and I just wanted to be older so I could do more things. Now I’m older and I wish I had played more instead of wishing

more. I still love playing though. That is why I love riding Goldwings!!! December was a good month for us, but very busy. The Toy Run was very interesting. We did not go to Merritt Island Mall and start there because there was no escort, and I did not want to get our group into, what I imagined, as being dangerous and compromising situations. It turned out that maybe an unescorted ride is a better way. Most broke up into groups and rode their own ride, therefore, there wasn’t one long group fighting to keep up with the “mass”. All in all it was a very well organized event, and I for one, look forward to it next year. Kicktires had more showing than I would have expected for a holiday month. Kelsey’s, Chapparal, were good, but Meg O’Malleys was excellent. Nice to visit the old pub once again. The Christmas Party was so nice because of the wonderful support and organization. Thank you Liz Sluter and her trusty side kick Skip for organizing and handling the Party. Excellent job, very well done. And hat’s off to Liz’s elves, Connie, Emily, and Roberta for building the sleigh’s and helping with the decorations. Then, to top it off; background Christmas music was provided by Robert Freeman. You could not have ask for a better ambiance. Thank you to you all!!! There was another form of entertainment at the Christmas Party. It is very hard to describe. I would not say is was “bells on bobtails ring”, but it was close. Skip Sluder, took a motley crew under his wing, and honed them, as best he could, into a fine orchestra of ding-a-lings. There is a rumor circulating that they are practicing in the deep dark reaches of the woods, and may come out of hiding to perform once again in the near future. Watch out for news flashes as word of their where-a-bouts gets leaked out. This brings us to the Soup Kitchen. I don’t know where the name comes from. I don’t know how it came into being. But, if you have never been to the Soup Kitchen, you don’t know what you are missing. First and foremost is the friendship. You can’t beat that! Next is the soupy part. This is a free for all soup cook off is the best way I can think to describe it. There is no competition, but everyone is invited to cook and bring a soup of their own. Now comes the hard part. In what order, in what quantity do you partake of the soup. Do you sample each and then dive into your favorite? Do you risk eating too much of one and fill up before you get to try them all? How many cookies, slices of cake, cornbread, egg rolls, should you eat? Do you hold back and not risk bloating, or do you just jump in and risk it all? I jumped in. It is not just the Ladies making the soup. There are a few guys who are very good at making soups, and I mean very good. There are excellent soup makers in this crew. Don’t ever turn down a sample if offered to you. If I remember correctly, there were 6 different soups. These were not your everyday tomato or chicken noodle soups. These were downright hearty, good to the bone, drop dead delicious, gotta have more soups. Don’t ever miss a Soup Kitchen.

Finally, the first ride of the year. Shrimps R Us ride on January 1st. We had 13 bikes and had a wonderful ride. It was nice and cool in the morning and perfect temperature on the ride home. At this time, I do not know how many were at this year’s buffet, but everything went much smoother this year. There were six buffet lines set up and everyone got fed very fast. The kitchen still had a hard time keeping up with the crowd but this was mostly for those who were wanting 2nds. This year the 50/50 pot was $1,100, therefore, 11 people won $100 each. As was last year, Pat Lytle won. She only won one time this year. Sorry Pat. The food was great and the ice cream ride afterward hit the spot. We are already looking forward to next year’s ride. Come join us! I can’t miss congratulating our Individual of the Year for 2017. Congratulations Robert. You have represented GWRRA FL2-N wonderfully over that past year and over the past 31 years. Thank you.

Ride Safe and Ride Often Mo & Ro FL2-N Chapter Directors

Congratulations Bill and Barbara

I don’t know how many of you pay very close attention to the December Wing World Magazine, but in it were the pictures from Wing Ding 38 and on page 41 at the top was Bill & Barbara’s bike and trailer, and for a very good reason. “Bigfoot” trailer was custom designed and built by Bill from materials he had laying around or had access to. Bill’s inspiration was to keep Barbara riding with him on long trips. “Bigfoot” is actually a disguise for transporting a mobility scooter as well as being a trailer. Excellent work Bill. Your creativity and ingenuity are amazing.

MEC Report

The year 2016 is quickly coming to an end. Pat and I would like to thank the members of the chapter for their support at the Florida District Rally where we competed for the District Couple of the Year on behalf of our Cocoa FL2-N Chapter. We both felt honored to be our Chapters representatives. This year it was not a couple that has stood out, but rather an individual. Therefore, it was decided to select an Individual of the Year rather than Couple of the Year. Someone who has shown their enthusiasm and knowledge of the GWRRA. Someone who has been a GWRRA member for 31 years. Someone who ia a Charter Member of FL2-N. Someone who is at most all events. Someone who is well known and loved by our membership. Someone who is always willing to step in and help. Our Individual of the Year 2017 is Robert Freeman. Congratulations Robert, and thank you for all your support and friendship you have shown the association over the years. As we transition into 2017 our first Chapter ride will be the Shrimp-R-Us run to Welaka, FL. Last year there were 400 riders in attendance, with Gold Wing riders in the majority. We are looking forward to another great year with our GWRRA family. Paul & Pat Lytle FL2-N Membership Enhancement Coordinators

My wife and I went to the state fair and one of the first exhibits we stopped at was the breeding bulls.

We went up to the first pen and there was a sign attached that said “This bull mated 50 times last year”. My wife playfully nudged me in the ribs, smiled and said “He mated 50 times last year”.

We walked to the second pen which had a sign that said, “This bull mated 150 times last year”. My wife gave me a healthy jab and said, “WOW! That’s more than twice as week! You could learn a lot from him”.

We walked to the third pen and it had a sign attached that said “This bull mated 365 times last year”. My wife was so excited that her elbow nearly broke my ribs, and said, “That’s once a day. You could REALLY learn something from this one”.

I looked at her and said “Go over and ask him if it was with the same old cow.”

My condition has been upgraded from critical to stable and I should eventually make a full recovery.
