George Tomlinson News
Dear George Tomlinson Community, It has been a very busy and successful week this week at George Tomlinson. On Thursday, we had a Mock Ofsted inspection, and are pleased to say that the result was “Good”! The staff worked very hard, and the children were very polite when speaking to adults. The inspectors were hugely impressed with the children’s love of learning and great behaviour. A huge well done to everyone for a great result! On Thursday, GT experienced our first ever Math’s Bee! Children in teams of three represented their year groups and went head-to-head in tricky, timed math’s questions. Everyone in the audience was hugely impressed with the high standard of math’s, and with the quick responses that children were able to give. A big thanks to Miss Shah for organising. On Monday, Ms Carter held an assembly for Years 5 and 6 about how to keep safe in and out of school. There is lots of information about Safeguarding on the school’s website, so please do have a look. Some children from Year 6 were enthusiastic and brave and presented to KS2 about great classic books to read. They shared with the children some book reviews of classic tales such as “Oliver Twist”, “The Wind in the Willows”, and “David Copperfield”. Classic novels like these will be available in our library very soon for children to read. Week two of “Catch Me Reading” has been a huge success, and loads of children are choosing to come to the fairy-tale library for 20 minutes during their lunch hour, to read and enjoy books. There has been a buzz about books and reading since it began and the children are already collecting plenty of stickers on their “Catch Me Reading” bookmarks. Who will be the first to earn a brand new book of their own?

Also linked to reading, thanks to all of you who voted for us in the Aviva community fund competition! We managed to get £1000, and this will go towards books for our school.
A huge well done to the children in Year 3 Caesar class, for doing a brilliant assembly! It was clear that the children had learned a lot, and they were very focussed for their performance. In Sports, the launch of the “This Girl Can” campaign has started and has been successful so far. Some children also took part in a Golf tournament- we await results next week. Well done! Next week, we’re very excited to be taking part in Harry Potter Day. The children are going to be doing “Harry Potter” themed activities throughout the day; and can come to school dressed up. We look forward to seeing some great costumes then! Have a great weekend, Vicky Wiley Assistant Headteacher

George Tomlinson Primary has a diverse community, and the international coffee mornings will
create an opportunity for parents and carers of each nationality to meet, socialise and speak
with each other in their own language, all in an informal and relaxed environment. The idea is to
unite the community of each country then, every so often we will bring all countries communities
together to join as one.
It’s so important we work together and support each other.
We will hold a Coffee morning for parents/carers from a South Asia background on Tuesday
