Sacrificial Gifts of Treasure December 28
th & 29
th, 2019
St. Patrick’s of Tekamah:
“Then they opened their coffers and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.”
~ MATTHEW 2:11 ~ The image of the Magi kneeling before the infant Jesus and opening their treasure chests for Him is an image that we should all try to follow each day. In gratitude for all that we have been given, we are called to generously share all of our gifts, not just the ones we pick and choose. God wants us to be generous with everything, but especially that one thing that means the most to you.
Children’s good deed: “I wrapped presents for my grandparents; I read the bible story of Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem; I put dishes in the dishwasher.”

~•~ A Prayer for Christmas Season ~•~
O sweet Child of Bethlehem, grant that we may share with all our hearts in this profound mystery of Christmas. Put into the hearts of men and women this peace for which they sometimes seek so desperately and which you alone can give to them. Help them to know one another better, and to live as brothers and sisters, children of the same Father. Reveal to them also your beauty, holiness and purity. Awaken in their hearts love and gratitude for your infinite goodness. Join them all together in your love. And give us your heavenly peace. Amen.

Lord, every nation on earth will adore you. (Psalm 72)
~ Religious Ed ~ Classes resume this week. 5:15 PM PreK – 6th Grade
7:00 PM Jr/Sr High
From Fr. Kevin… Today the Church celebrates the Solemnity of
The Epiphany of the Lord, the manifestation of
Jesus Christ to the world, beginning with a
reading from the Prophet Isaiah that overflows
with light, brightness, radiance and glory. Isaiah
looks forward to the fulfillment of divine
promises to re-create the covenant people, the
city of Zion, and God’s dwelling place among
them. Repeatedly, Isaiah stresses that God’s act
of restoration will be witnessed by foreign
nations, who will thus recognize the saving work
of the Lord. At the heart of Isaiah’s promise is
the glory of the Lord. Twice in the first two
verses of today’s reading, Isaiah uses the
Hebrew word kabod, translated “glory.” This
significant term indicates an outward
manifestation of divine presence, at times
nearly equivalent to God himself. On this
Solemnity of the Epiphany in the Gospel of St.
Matthew we celebrate prophetic fulfillment with
a new manifestation of God’s glory to
foreigners, represented by the Magi. Jesus bears
within himself the very glory of God because he
is God. May we, too, come and behold him and
never leave him. Peace, Fr. Kevin
FAITH FACTS “Wives, be subordinate to your husbands.
Husbands, love your wives.” ( ISAIAH 60 )
In Hebrew, the word “glory” is related to weight or heaviness; hence it describes someone’s inner worth or importance. When applied to humans, it can be associated with anything that gives a person dignity and commands respect, such as honor, wealth, or wisdom. When glory is associated with God, the meaning becomes more complex. Glory describes the essence of God’s divinity that requires us to respect and honor God, and glory also points to the visible manifestation of God’s invisible presence (for example, in the cloud and pillar of fire leading the Hebrews during the Exodus or the light that Isaiah sees falling on Jerusalem and God’s faithful people)..

No Favorites In biblical times, the wealthy and powerful not only wrote the laws but also decided cases. Judges, who were supposed to be impartial, were often susceptible to bribes to decide a case in someone’s favor. For the poor - who did not have a means to influence court decisions - the odds of getting a “just judge” who would show no favoritism were very slim indeed. Thus they trusted in their hope that
God, who could not be bribed or controlled, would be the
ultimate arbiter of justice.
