Calling all the children and grandchildren of the Club!! On Sunday, January 25th beginning at 3:00 p.m., come to the Vista Rooms and watch an “in-door” movie featuring “Frozen” on the “big screen”! There will be freshly baked cookies, popcorn and juice-boxes for all. The chil-dren can bring their favorite “blanket and pillow” for their viewing pleasure and chairs of course are available for everyone! The “Valentine’s Parent/Child Dance” is right around the corner. On Friday, February 6th from 7:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m., bring your young sons and daughters out for a festive evening of music and dance as the children can teach mom and dad the newest dance moves! “The Kids” are in charge of the music and decorations for this special evening. Our regular menu service is available before the dance, but at 7:00 p.m. the theme is all about having fun dancing with your children! Sparkling Cider and an Ice Cream Sundae Bar are open to all the dancers…so save-this-date for a great family filled evening!! Coat & Tie is recommended as it is nearly Valentine’s Day! Gentlemen…it’s now time to make your reservations for Valentine’s Dinner at the Club! Valentine’s Day is Saturday, February 14th with Chef Mike preparing one of his very popular lim-ited menus for all to enjoy. If you “gentlemen” forget, we will take reservations from the ladies!! The popular Walla Walla Valley Youth orchestra will once again perform during this evening, so please request if you would like to sit close to the orchestra…these seats go quickly! Chef Mike will once again offer three “Chef Tables” this year. These Chef Tables all received rave reviews each year with certain members already wanting reservations for the three scheduled for this year. The dates are March 6th, August 7th and Novem-ber 6th. Chef Mike limits each of these dinners to the first 24 reservations and is given complete authority for menu development. The food and presentation at the Chef Tables are second-to-none, he doesn’t publish the menu and the price is “what-ever-it-takes” to serve this selected menu. If you consider yourself a “foodie”, you need to attend a Chef’s Table, but remember, once a reservation is made, the only way to reverse the charge is to find a replacement if for any reason you can’t attend. Reservations for this year’s “Chef Tables” are now open!
All members are invited to attend the Annual Meeting of the Membership on Monday, February 2nd at 7:00 p.m. in the ban-quet rooms of the Club.

The Children’s Christmas Party of 2014 was attended by 244 members! Mr. & Mrs. Claus took time out of their busy holiday schedule to stop and deliver special gifts to all the children! Thank you Elf Jennifer Kontos and Elf Sandra Borth for helping Santa prepare his gifts and Elves Sophie & Kelly for assisting Santa with delivery! The professional photographer was able to capture some truly memorable moments! Photos are available at the Club office.

Walla Walla Country Club
Long Range Planning Committee - LRPC
January 2015
As stated before the Long Range Planning Committee (LRPC) feels it is essential to keep the membership updated on the progress of the LRPC. Since our last newsletter we have formally met with all the Club Committees as well as the General Manager. This provided us with an excellent view of how the club operates and it brought to light some concerns that will definitely help us create our recommendations. We want to formally thank all the committee representatives and Jeff for taking the time and energy to meet with us.
The LRPC has decided that the best vehicle for the club to improve and move for-ward is to develop a Strategic Plan. By creating this plan the club will discover who we are, what we want to be and how to get there. The LRPC has already done and will continue to do a lot of leg work towards developing this plan however it will be up to the Board of Directors (BOD) to formalize, review approve and implement this plan. The Club Committees will then have a big role in developing and recommend-ing specific action plans to implement improvements.
The Goals and Objectives the LRPC has already determined are as follows:
● Create a Strategic Plan to include a Mission Statement, Vision and set of Values. ● Determine what level of service is appropriate for all areas of WWCC ● Communication internally and externally
● Governance - By-Law Modifications
● Committee Structure and Operation
● Membership - Promotion and Retention
● Management - HR & Training Program
● Programs and Services (Food & Beverage, Social, Golf, Tennis & Pool) ● Finance - Revenue and Expenses
● Facilities - Maintenance and Improvement/Modification
We will be presenting up to date information to the membership and hopefully receiv-ing input from the membership at the Annual Meeting.

This winter was spent re-organizing the bag room. We re-used existing club storage racks and extended rows which opened space to allow an area for golf repair and shoe shine. Stop by and have your clubs re-gripped, put-ters shortened or clubs fitted for you. While here also get your shoes re-
spiked, polished, or shoelaces replaced. We also clean and shine dress shoes at a cost of $4.00 a pair…. what a deal!

I hope everyone had a great holiday season and are looking forward to the upcoming golf season as much as the maintenance staff is! We have had an interesting winter so far with the course having to be closed sporadically through the months of December and January.
In determining when your course should or should not be open, one thing I cannot stress enough is that we tend to be extremely conservative and are basing our decision entirely on the protection and wellbeing of the golf course. We gather all the information and make a decision for that day. I thank you for your understanding and patience in regard to this issue. Obviously, when there is snow on the course it is a pretty easy call. If it was only that easy all the time! Thanks again for your patience.
With all the leaves that fall on our course, the creek becomes filled and the flow is greatly affected. In December the maintenance staff raked most of the leaves out of the creek onto the banks where in early January the DOC crews came out and picked up the leaves and regrubbed the creek. In my 19 years at WWCC the creek has never looked this good in January and has excellent flow and great playability and beauty.
We have removed a few trees on the course according to our tree program along with Green Committee recom-mendations and Board Approval. Two of the trees we removed were Scarlet Oaks on the right side of #7 fairway 100 yards from the green. Both these trees were very chlorotic and unhealthy trees. We have had issues with Scarlet Oaks in various areas on the course. We will be replacing those sick trees with Hungarian Oaks that do much better in these certain areas. The remaining Oaks toward #7 green are of this variety and are doing very well. We will be planting the new trees this spring.
I hope everyone is enjoying the winter and we looking forward to seeing everyone on the course!

C 9 Nw Club 9 members celebrated the holiday spirit with golfers of the Women’s 18 Hole Golf Association on December 4. First and second graders from Rogers Adventist School welcomed us into the holiday spirit with song. Patty Knittel, Michelle Walters, Janey McKern and Linda Eki planned the festivities. Thank you! Everyone brought Christmas cash for the Pantry Shelf and the Helpline STEP Women’s Shelter. Thank you for your Yuletide generosity! Pauline Guglielmelli was presented with the award for the most improved player of the year! The silver bowl with her name engraved on it, again—her name is the first on the list!—along with past recipients will be dis-played in the trophy case. Congratulations, Pauline!

Warm Greetings!
Members of Club 9 and The Women’s 18 Hole Golf Association joined on December 4th for a festive holiday luncheon. It was wonderful getting to know each other better and celebrating the upcoming holidays together. We all enjoyed the delicious food prepared by Chef Mike and his staff and the lively entertainment provided by the Roger’s Elementary School Choir, so cute and enthusiastic! Many thanks to everyone who joined forces to plan the event. I received many positive comments about having the two women’s groups come together for this celebration, we will definitely consider doing this again next year! Donations were collected for Helpline, providing blankets for the homeless and Christmas gifts for residents in the Helpline Women’s Shelter, and for the Pantry Shelf to provide food for their food bank. Thank you all for your generous contributions! Stay warm if you are in Walla Walla, and think of us here in the frozen north if you are enjoying the sunshine and warmth “down south”. I look forward to seeing you all in the coming months. Janey McKern, President
