Spin Club

Friends, Music & Fun!

The Calhoun County 4-H Youth Program recently had a Chamber Music Spin

Club offered this year as an enrichment opportunity for Advanced Band members.

This club was held after school on Wednesdays from 3-4 p.m. in the Springfield

Middle School band room. The Chamber Music Club met six times, starting on No-

vember 7th and ending on December 12th. Students performed music in small

groups under specialized instruction, and they showcased their work at a concert

on December 11th. There are several more Spin Clubs in the works. To learn

4-H Statewide and Local Program Events

What is Exploration Days like? ∗ There’ll be more than 200 session choices held on and off campus. You’ll choose one

or two for your three-day stay. ∗ You’ll live in a Michigan State University dorm and eat in the cafeteria—just like

MSU students do. ∗ Sessions are taught by people who know their stuff, including MSU faculty members,

4-H volunteers and staff members and other experts. ∗ It’s not all sessions! There’s plenty of time for fun, including swimming, skating, sou-

venir shopping, exploring, bowling, basketball—even a great dance Thursday night. ∗ The 2019 cost is TBD. There is an additional $20 4-H participation fee for youth

not yet enrolled in 4-H. The fee includes meals, a shared room in a dorm, sessions and a t-shirt. You may wish to check with your county MSU Extension office to see if scholarship funds are available.

4-H Exploration Days registration goes from mid-March through April with session as-signments made on a first-come, first-served basis. As you select your session choices, be sure to watch for age restrictions! Age requirements for sessions are based on your age as of January 1. Contact the 4-H staff in Calhoun County at 269-781-0784 for more information on 4-H Exploration Days, and any specific details pertaining to your county’s delegation.

Resolve to have a great

4-H year

As we start to think ahead to

the New Year, how can 4-H

clubs resolve to improve in

the year ahead? Here are ten

suggestions to make the up-

coming year a successful

one.

Resolve that:

1. Club meetings will start and end on time.

2. Business meetings will follow Robert's Rules of Order and that all club paperwork, such as minutes, club inventory and financial statements, will be completed in a timely manner.

3. All members will take part in discussions and have a say in decisions that are made. Keep a chart with each members’ name and when they speak at busi-ness meetings.

4. The club meeting place will be a safe, comfortable and welcoming environ-ment for all club mem-bers.

5. Fun will be included in each meeting.

6. A learning activity will be included in each club meeting. Ideas include exploring a new 4-H cur-riculum, having members volunteer to do a demon-stration, doing a show and tell about each members' favorite project, or bring-ing in a guest speaker.

7. The club will pursue at least one community ser-vice project chosen, planned and celebrated by the club.

8. New members will have a buddy they may talk with about any 4-H questions.

9. The 4-H pledge will be said at every meeting.

10. Every club member will be recognized in some way to let them know they are cared about.
