November 26, 2017 My Dearest Parish Family, God be with us always. A Blessed and Happy Solemnity of Christ the King! On the Feast of Christ the King the words “Christus vincit, Christus regnat, Christus, Christus Imperat“ are traditionally chanted while the Blessed Sacrament is carried in procession stopping at several stations. The words were taken from what Pope Sixtus has engraved on the obelisk standing in the center of St. Peter Square in Rome. The full Latin text reads: “Christus vincit, regnat, imperat: ab omni malo plemen, suam defendat.” The English translation is: “Christ conquers, He reigns, He commands; may He defend His people from all evil.” On the last Sunday of the Liturgical year we celebrate this Solemnity proclaiming Jesus Christ truly as our Lord, Savior and King. “The magnificent words in the previous paragraph is in the present tense to indicate that Christ’s triumph is always actual, and that it is brought about in the Eucharist and by the Eucharist.” (from Catholicism Pure & Simple) Every Eucharist celebrated is a recognition of this especially when we in the Liturgy of the Eucharist we proclaim: “Through Him, with Him and In Him . . .” All the actions of grace bestowed and received is through our Lord Jesus Christ in unity with the Holy Trinity. The question now is; does Christ indeed reign in our lives? When making choices and decisions do we measure it by the standard Christ has shown us? We have a rich well in which to draw from in Scriptures: the Decalogue, the two greatest

commandments of love, the Beatitudes and more. As a Parish Family we are challenged to practice this in our lives. Archbishop Aymond in his homily during the NAFP I attended in Houston, TX two weeks ago asked us Filipino Priests gathered the question: “Does God have your full attention?” When we gather at the Eucharistic table: Does Christ our King, Lord and Savior have our full attention? May we all take a moment to bring this question into reflection and mediation this coming week as a preparation for Advent. God bless and take care. Love and prayers,

Fr.

dice: "Christus vincit, regnat, imperat: ab omni malo plemen, suam defendat".

Fr. Thomas

Saul or Paul, is the adversary to the community known as the “followers of the way”. They are calling Jesus “Lord”. After his “theophany” on the road to Damascus, he becomes Jesus’ greatest promoter. Saul begins his apostolic life in Damascus by preaching in the synagogues that Jesus is the long awaited Christ (Greek for the Hebrew term, Messiah, or “Anointed One”.) Acts Chapter 9.

CHRIST, KING OF ALL

On this, the final Sunday of the liturgical year, we celebrate the solemnity of Christ the King. By concluding the year with this feast we are proclaiming our faith that Jesus Christ is the one and only king over all seasons, all peoples, and all of creation. At the end of time as we know it, Christ’s work of restoring all things to unity and harmony with their Creator God will be completed. This Sunday, when we claim Christ as both our Shepherd and our King, we recognize our own calling to participate in Christ’s saving work by caring for those whom Jesus calls “the least ones” (Matthew 25:45).

Procession in Honor of Christ the King on November 25th after 5:00pm Mass.

WE ASK FOR YOUR COOPERATION In order to keep our Parish more presentable and organized, we ask for your cooperation. Holders have been placed in our pews and need to be kept organized as best as possible by taking the envelope(s) you need and not putting pressure on the holders since they are fragile. We thank you for helping us keep Santiago de Compostela a welcoming parish!
