    1. Introducing the project

    Jaipur Jewellery Artisans Development Project (JJADE)

    Intends to work with almost 20,000 artisans; in Jaipur,Rajasthan

    Improve the fashion jewellery value chain

    Collaborating with 3 local NGO partners JKSMS, BGVS, RASand 1 industry association JAJ; to deliver the project :

    It has 3 sub-value chains:- Metal- Semi precious stone- Lacquer (also referred as Lac)

    - Fashion Jewellery has a growing share in the global jewellery market -$146 billion in 2006

    - It is a global value chain and engages urban poor as primary artisans

    - Jaipur - a historical hub for jewellery production with rich skills andcraftsmanship

    - Global as well as growing domestic demands

    - Over 200,000 artisans engaged;

    o 135,000 semi precious stones (processing 95% of all semi-precious stones in the country)

    o 65,000 in metal

    o 15,000 in lac

    Goal: To increase incomes and improve livelihoods of primary artisans inthe costume jewelry value chain; provide a demonstration model forpoverty alleviation by other organizations

    Execution Strategy

    To link the existing institutions and service providers with the

    neighborhoods of the target group so that support and

    services are sustained after the project

    To facilitate access to resources, already allocated by the

    government through various schemes, thereby leveraging the

    project funds to secure a lot more.

    To seek and explore ways by which the inputs in the value

    chain might ultimatelybe financed To support the artisans for graduating up the value chain

    To provide necessary interventions in the areas of technical

    know-how i.e. design, marketing etc.

    Around 500 Artisan forms filled and with the constant persuasion with theGOI, around 100 registration numbers have been issued and distributedamongst the artisans which has created ripple effect and the knowledgeabout the project is disseminated throught out the artisan community.

    A major acheivemnt of the SPARC has been the Training Workshop of theMetal Artisans, where it has fully leaveraged through the GoI Programme,implemented by Arch Institute of Design

    Detailed Implementation Planning Meeting, with all the partners, was heldatJaipur Office where the next two quarters were planned in detail

    A Meeting for the Project Brief was conducted with the Partners and theirimplementingTeams atJawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur

    I-CAT with all the partners was completed

    PIMC has been constitute and 2 PIMC meetings have alreadybeen held.

    Market Survey is in progress for detailed Marketing Research and Prototypebuilding

    Details for the Fair Trade Workshop, to be held duringJAS09, have beenfinalized.

    Product Development and Prototyping, is in progress, for the JewelleryAssociation Show (24th-27th July 2009)

    Business Planning for partners in process.

    Course Module for the Artisan Training School to be run byJeweller

    Association, Jaipur, is in progress Dialogues with Organized Sector Financial Service Providers (like Fullerton,

    BASIX etc.) and the IT service providing institutions have been initiated.

    Project Advisory Committee has been put in place and the first meetingwould be organized around the end of the first six months.
