The main stance in Tekki Shodan is the horse stance. The horse stance must be maintained in
foot distance, height and hip twists versus shoulder twisting. With that in mind, the elbow strike –
the third move in the kata must 1). Be generated from the hip twist, 2). Maintain the squareness of
the shoulders facing forward (no turning the shoulders into the strike without the body connection)
and 3). Maintain the stability of the legs within the stance (no wobbling, shifting or looseness in
the legs)_______________________________________________________________________
Exercise to Test and Develop Stability and Range of Motion:
From a good, stable horse stance with the right arm bent into the third move arm placement,
practice keeping the opposite arm bent with a connection to the body, bring the arm up - the
fist to the right side of the chest while turning the elbow into the bent arm for a solid elbow
