over, please

Dear Patriot,

Our veterans are in trouble and they need your help!

In fact, many of our American heroes are in a crisis situation at this moment. They are not receiving the medical treatment they EARNED and are much more likely to be faced with unemployment . . . mental health issues and suicide.

So I’m sure you’re wondering why I have sent you this $1.00 bill. I sent it to you for a couple of reasons.

I wanted to show you just how critical it is that I hear from you. So critical that I am willing to send you a $1.00 bill in order to ensure that you read this letter and understand just how much our veterans need your help.

A dollar doesn’t go as far as it used to. If you keep this dollar, you may be able to buy a newspaper with it . . . perhaps a cup of coffee . . . but unfortunately one dollar doesn’t buy much these days.

But if you take one dollar, and add another dollar, and another dollar . . . it won’t be long before you have the ability to make an impact . . . to make a real difference.

That is what The American Legion is doing every single day with the help of friends like you—we are making a difference in the lives of our veterans. Which leads me to the most important reason why I sent you this $1.00 bill.

Veterans Day is coming soon, and I’m asking you to return this dollar along with your special gift to help these men and women who have served our country.

Throughout our history, courageous men and women have sacrificed everything to serve our great nation, and sadly many paid the ultimate price.

Today, with thousands and thousands of men and women returning home from two wars, our veterans are facing battles at home that are STILL taking lives.

Across America, reports have surfaced of long wait lists to see VA physicians, and tragically, preventable deaths have been just one of many outcomes of these long waits. Many of our veterans are suffering from the invisible scars of war and long deployments . . . traumatic brain injuries and PTSD . . . while they wait to see a physician or mental health professional.

The American Legion is dedicated to helping those who have served our country. We spend millions of volunteer hours in military and VA hospitals caring for those in hospital beds who feel alone and forgotten.

Too many of our young veterans are coming home with life-changing injuries requiring long hospital stays and rehabilitation.

It’s hard for most people to understand how grueling these long hospital stays can be, not just on the patient, but on the family as well. There are serious financial implications—needs that go far beyond what is provided by the government.

This Veterans Day, you can say Thank You to our American Veterans

That’s where The American Legion steps in. With the help of patriotic Americans like you, we help meet the needs and open the right doors so that life can start returning back to normal. We connect veterans to the services they need in their own communities . . . we help them process claims and work with them to find job training and employment.

With thousands of Americans still in harm’s way and the continued threat of escalating violence in countries besieged by terrorist organizations, the need for the services The American Legion provides continues to grow. It is our mission to help our American veterans — of all generations — and their families.

Every one of these men and women placed their very lives on the line for our great nation—we can not let them down now . . . we must ensure they receive the honor and care they are due.

But we can’t do it without your help.

I am sending this letter and this request to you because I know you love our country and you appreciate the sacrifices of those who have made it possible for us to enjoy our freedoms. And today you and I have the opportunity to do something special to give back to those who have given so much.

Can I count on you to help our heroes today by returning your $1.00 bill along with a generous donation?

Remember . . . alone your $1.00 bill can’t do much BUT combined with thousands of others . . . it will change lives.

Your gift today of $15, $25, $50 or more will touch the lives of our American veterans. Every need — whether large or small — that we meet is a reminder that they are not forgotten. This is a powerful way for you to impact their lives. Please rush your generous gift today so we can continue to stand in the gap for our veterans.

God bless you and God bless America.

William A. Pease National Development Director The American Legion

P.S. I know that you could take the enclosed dollar and do any number of things with it, but I hope that you will choose to return it along with your gift so that we can put it to work to help our nation’s heroes.

P.P.S. Veterans Day is around the corner. Please sign and return the enclosed Thank You card and I will see that it is delivered to a veteran on your behalf. I can’t think of a better time for us to express our gratitude to all of our American veterans. I look forward to hearing from you very soon.
