• Emphysema – a disease that occurs when the tiny air sacs in the lungs lose their elasticity, or ability to stretch

• Lung cancer• Addiction – the body’s physical or mental need

for a drug or other substance- shakiness, headache, sleeping problems, nervousness

• Negative peer pressure – pressure you feel to go along with harmful behaviors or beliefs of your peers.

• Imitation - copying the actions of someone you admire

• Media – various methods of communicating information, including newspapers, magazines, radio, television, and the internet

• With every puff of a cigarette, a smoker breathes in more than 4,000 different chemicals, including ammonia (a poisonous gas and a powerful toilet cleaner), arsenic (a potent rat poison), cyanide (a deadly ingredient in rat poison), acetone (a poisonous solvent and paint stripper), formaldehyde (used to preserve dead frogs), toluene (a poisonous industrial solvent), polonium-210 (a highly radioactive element) and carbon monoxide (a poisonous gas). Disturbing, but true!
