Multi-Year WinnerCalifornia Restaurant AssociationVoted Best Mexican Restaurant

Experience the warmth and romance of Mexico at Casa de Bandini in The Forum Shopping Center. Originally opened by Diane Powers in 1980 in Old Town State Park, Casa de Bandini is the essence of Mexican culture: authen-tic Mexican food, fabulous mariachi entertainment, giant margaritas and an environment depicting Colonial Mexico.

Inspired by Juan Bandini, a Peruvian who immigrated to San Diego as one of early California’s first Dons, and by Mexico’s early period of elegant living and dining, Casa de Bandini is home to beautiful art collections from Peru and magnificent gilt gold mirrors. The large hand wrought iron chan-deliers, and the antique leaded glass window panels in our dining room are all original from the first loca-tion. Outside, many long-time diners may also rec-ognize the Mexican Cantera stone fountain centered in the Talavera tiled pool as the same one from the original Casa de Bandini. Powers purchased this mag-nificent, hand-carved piece in the late 1970s during a trip to Guadalajara.

Casa de Bandini’s award-winning cuisine is made with the freshest ingredi-ents and original regional recipes, accompanied by

an extensive selection of specialty margaritas and handmade, served hot-off-the-grill tortillas. Over 80 entrees can be found on the menu, including favor-ites such as crispy shrimp and mango tacos, sizzling fajitas, traditional combi-nation plates and delicious carnitas burritos. The res-taurant also offers an abun-dant selection of creative,

healthy Mexican salads and vegetarian choices, and a new, full gluten-free menu for those with dietary restrictions.

In addition to authen-tic food and décor, Casa de Bandini brings the spirit of Mexico to life with lively performances from its famous mariachi group, Cielito Lindo. Diners are serenaded as these

world-class musicians stroll through the res-taurant’s dining rooms and patio, Wednesday to Sunday evenings.

Whether you’re with friends and family in the vibrant dining rooms, or enjoying a meal under the stars on the mag-nificent heated patio, it’s always a fiesta at Casa de Bandini!

A traditional Mexican dish, Carne Asada Tampiqueña, is seasoned Angus Beef carne asada served with a side of rice, pinto beans and a cheese enchilada.

Experience Broadway in your own backyard For 36 years, the Moon-

light Amphitheatre in Vista’s Brengle Terrace Park has come alive with the sound of music of Broadway musicals and an array of concerts. This year is no different as the city’s award-winning Moonlight Stage Productions presents a season of Broadway’s best under the stars.

The season includes “Sister Act,” “Peter Pan,” “Titanic The Musical” and “The Addams Family.” Heading up the musi-cal season is Producing Artistic Director Steven Glaudini. “Our musicals are built from the ground up,” he said. “Our produc-tion values are high and we often import the Broadway or National Tour sets and costumes for our shows. Our actors are a mix of Broadway performers and regional talent.

Each show is accompa-nied by a live orchestra using the Broadway scores. The overall experience is such that audiences feel they are getting the best of Broadway right in their own backyard. Mixed-in with the beautiful surroundings of the Amphitheatre, it’s an experience that can’t be duplicated anywhere else.”

For its Broadway musi-cal season, the Moonlight

permits audiences to bring their own non-alcoholic beverages and picnics into the Amphitheatre to enjoy before each show. For those who like to leave the cooking to someone else, there’s the Artisan Café at the Moonlight, a restaurant offering pre-performance dinners. The Moonlight is

particularly family friendly and offers general admis-sion lawn tickets at a deep discount, tickets range from $8 to $20 and lawn chairs are provided at no extra charge.

Outside of the musical season, the Amphithe-atre also offers a number of concerts including

fund-raising events pro-duced by the theatre’s non-profit producing part-ner the Moonlight Cultural Foundation. The Founda-tion raises individual and corporate donations to sup-port the Moonlight and to offer its own educational and outreach programs including Moonlight Youth

Theatre. The Foundation this year

is presenting Well-Strung on July 9, the internation-ally renowned singing string quartet that per-forms everything from classical music to arrange-ments of current hits for quartet. Then, Chris Mann, the powerful singing star

of the national tour of “The Phantom of the Opera” is joined by Wicked and Hairspray star Shoshana Bean on November 12 for a concert of Broadway hits and other favorites. For the complete line-up at the Moonlight Amphitheatre, visit moonlightstage.com or call (760) 724-2110.

Resort season is upon us again, but looking stylish and on trend this summer doesn’t

have to cost a fortune. With the new selection from Aranelle, you can still look fabulous without breaking the bank. Shoppers can expect a color-ful selection of key season staples along with stunning jewelry and accessories.

Since 2001, Aranelle has been a destination where locals and visitors find unique apparel, accessories and gifts from brands and designers they know, as well as local artisans they come to love. With a focus on trends that are both wearable and unique, Aranelle has built some head-turning outfits to wear around our beautiful coastal town – from colorful embroi-dered tops and loafers to fitted striped dresses and sandals.

A historic dining experience awaits Carlsbad is an amazing city.

With its thriving and vibrant culture, Carlsbad’s residents and communities make it the model for best places to live and work in the nation. With summertime on the horizon, the city comes to life energized by perfect weather, family activities and a spirit of fun in the city we are fortunate to call home.

As a family owned business, Green Dragon Tavern & Museum loves the energy of summertime in the city.

"We experience an influx of families looking to keep the developing minds of their chil-dren engaged while learning more about our nation’s history at our free admission museum," said John Lek, general man-ager of Green Dragon Tavern & Museum. "With the expense of camps, attractions and childcare, we take great pride in providing this learning and cultural experi-ence at no charge to our guests."

Visitors to Carlsbad get a truly unique glimpse into East Coast ambiance and the museum's his-torical private collection with-out leaving the city. GDT&M regulars and out of town visitors

alike indulge in the New England inspired cuisine. As many have stated on social media, "GDT&M is more than a great restaurant, it’s a great experience unlike any other dining option around."

Locals frequent GDT&M to unwind during their phenomenal happy hour, catch the latest sport-ing event on TV in what many have described as feeling like “sitting in the luxury box rather than the cheap seats of other sports bars.” Many begin Sunday funday with brunch, bottomless mimosas and all day happy hour. Others simply enjoy the dining experience with friends, colleagues and families.

The private banquet and meet-ing space is a destination of choice for weddings, rehearsal dinners, private parties and cor-porate meetings. Perhaps it’s the classic and elegant ambiance or simply the ample free parking and complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi! The banquet cuisine is unrivaled in quality thanks to the chefs who personally prepare each dish. GDT&M is working on enhancements to your museum experience this summer.

Rise of two-in-one hotel propertiesWhen RAR Hospitality

took over hotel manage-ment of the 106-room hotel Staybridge Suites Carlsbad and 133-key Holiday Inn Carlsbad in February 2016, it became one of the growing number of two-in-one prop-erties arising in San Diego.

The business model of a two-in-one or “campus” hotel as it’s called in the industry has become increasingly popular for hotel developers and operators as a property that features two differ-ent hotel brands within the same hotel family on a single parcel. Two-pack hotel assets offer significant benefits to the hotel developer with building costs, space savings, and operational efficiencies while capitalizing broader customer needs.

Tapping into two different brands can be lucrative with attracting different target demographics including the business or extended stay traveler and leisure or family consumer because of Carls-bad attractions such as North County beaches, LEGOLAND California, and the relaxed resort atmosphere at an approachable price point.

The Carlsbad hotel campus also provides ben-eficial amenities to travelers including:

• Multiple meeting and conference rooms

• Resort-style pools

• 24-hour fitness centers

• Expanded business center capabilities including a basketball court and putting green

• Increased food and beverage options

The Carlsbad campus is among three campus U.S. properties in RAR Hospital-ity’s portfolio with others in Del Mar and Phoenix.

Staybridge Suites Carlsbad is located at 2735 Palomar Air-port Road, Carlsbad and Holi-day Inn Carlsbad is located at 2725 Palomar Airport Road, Carlsbad. For more informa-tion on Staybridge Suites and Holiday Carlsbad, visit staybridgecarlsbad.com or holidayinncarlsbad.com.

A real taste of true Irish hospitalityStay & Play [DINING]

Pub culture in Ireland has a long history, but at its core is fostering a sense of ca-maraderie and friendship. Whether in rural villages or busy Dublin, a pub is an ex-tended living room where people eat, drink, get out of the rain, watch a sporting event, and make new friends. But you don’t have to travel far for some hearty dishes. Hennessey’s Tavern in Carlsbad is your neighbor-hood meeting place serving Irish Hospitality for 40 years and still going strong!

Since being founded in 1976 by Paul Hennessey, an

entrepreneurial former Wall Street stock trader, Hen-nessey’s Tavern, Inc. has grown from a single loca-tion in Hermosa Beach into a diversified group spread throughout Southern Cali-fornia and Las Vegas.

“I saw the need for nice gathering places with relax-ing environments,” said Hennessey referring to the SoCal market niche that he has captured so well. “Our restaurants are about our people. We ensure that our staff are more than just order takers or food deliv-erers. They offer true Irish

Hospitality. Our staff have become our extended family, along with our guests.”

Stop by for that early morning breakfast kick-start, a quick relaxing lunch break, or a family get-together over a hearty dinner and a cocktail or two.

An exploration of arts with a cause

New Village Arts has created a forum for laugh-ter, discussion, and deeper thinking in Carlsbad since 2001. Through edu-cational programs, the Foundry Artist Stu-dios, live music events, and unique theatrical pro-ductions, NVA delivers artistic opportunities and collaborative possibilities that are crucial to a healthy community.

Whether raising aware-ness for animal welfare with the Humane Society, or supporting families of local veterans in conjunc-tion with the San Diego Military Family Collabora-tive, NVA is committed to partnering with local lead-ers to provide artistic and cultural experiences that enrich and enhance the lives of our community members.

In July, NVA will con-clude its fifteenth season with Golda’s Balcony, a one-woman show about the life of Golda Meir, produced in association with the Lipinski Family San Diego Jewish Arts Festival. In August, NVA will launch its sixteenth theatrical season with the support of the City of Carlsbad, the California Arts Council and local businesses like Jazzercise, Datron, and Nordson. For years, Carlsbad residents

have looked to NVA to provoke important

conversations in our community, and to provide the

training ground for future genera-

tions of art-makers and art-lovers.New Village Arts

celebrates our local com-munity through the arts, supported by our Corpo-rate Sponsorships and Community Partnerships. NVA aims to collaborate with local businesses and nonprofit organizations that share a commitment to celebrating diversity and inclusivity, and encour-ages local businesses and nonprofits to support the arts as patrons, sponsors, or community partners. Doing so will ensure that Carlsbad and North County continue their growth as vital, exciting hubs of artis-tic innovation.
