Six specialist production units growing 8 million+plants every year, brought to you on time, within budget and in peak condition.

Whixley propagation unitThe Whixley propagation unit extends to 4Ha with state

of the art propagation facilities which give us tight

control on quality and quantity.

NewlandsAt Newlands we have an exposed site of 20Ha which is

ideal for producing hardy container stock in 2L and 3L

pots. This is also our main administration and despatch

facility and the location of the original Wholesale Plant

Centre.

CattalAt Cattal we have a 7Ha container unit specialising in the

production of 7L, 15L, and 25L specimen plants. The

majority of our contract growing commitments are

carried out on this site.

ThornvilleAt Thornville we have 20Ha of sandy loam producing

quality amenity trees ranging in size from 1.8m to 25-

30cm girth and specimen field grown conifers, shrubs

and hedging.

RoecliffeAt Roecliffe we have 3.5Ha with 1Ha under glass. This is

our bespoke production unit for the retail sector.

WilberfossAt Wilberfoss we have over 100Ha of silty sand

producing exceptionally fibrous root systems on the field

grown transplants raised here.

• We have over 150 hectares in production at six sites in Yorkshire

• We grow 11 million premium quality plants every year for use in the

public realm and private gardens

• Of this total 4,804,994 are hedging plants including:

• 2.6 million Thorn

• Over 200,000 Holly

• Almost 200,000 Dog Rose

• 1/2 million Blackthorn

• 1/4 million Hazel

This would create a hedge 822 miles long – every single year.

On top of this we grow:

• Almost 1/2 million Birch Trees

• 1 million Oak Trees – which can live up to 1000 years in the UK

• 1/4 million Scots Pines

• 25,000 Yews – a species of special interest to cancer researchers

• Any plants unsold are composted and thus recycled to grow new

plants. The same is true of green waste

• We employ about 150 permanent staff plus a steady stream of

trainees and visiting staff from just about every member state of the

European Union.

European partners

In addition to our own extensive production facilities

we have formed strategic alliances with selected

growers throughout Europe. There are two

objectives:

• To recognise that some growers are better

placed geographically than us to grow

certain species and varieties to the highest

standard.

• To ensure that we can always meet demand

for our customers – whatever the size of order.

All of our supply partners are subject to the same

quality control regime as our own production units.

● The skills needed to produce millions of marketable plants and

deliver them in peak condition are numerous. At the outset we

count on those of the traditional plantsman: taking thousands of

cuttings at a time – at just the right time – for hundreds of

species, striking them out and growing them on for two or more

seasons.

● Along the way we need agronomists to help us with pests and

diseases, stock controllers to ensure that we carry the plants our

customers need, buyers to secure the best value for us whether

we’re sourcing raw materials or more plants, despatch staff to lift

and label the plants, and drivers to take any one of our fleet of

vehicles to the next town, the next county, or, indeed, anywhere

in Europe.

All these skills combine to ensure you have quality plants and quality

information to save time and hassle in producing the schemes you

want.
