may be gathered by heavenly graceinto one great confession of your name.Through our Lord Jesus Christ.

First Reading: Acts 2:1-11A reading from the Acts of the ApostlesWhen Pentecost day came round, they had all met in one room, when suddenly they heard what sounded like a powerful wind from heaven, the noise of which filled the entire house in which they were sitting; and something appeared to them that seemed like tongues of fire; these separated and came to rest on the head of each of them. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak foreign languages as the Spirit gave them the gift of speech. Now there were devout men living in Jerusalem from every nation under heaven, and at this sound they all assembled, each one bewildered to hear these men speaking his own language. They were amazed and astonished. ‘Surely’ they said ‘all these men speaking are Galileans? How does it happen that each of us hears them in his own native language? Parthians, Medes and Elamites; people from Mesopotamia, Judaea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya round Cyrene; as well as visitors from Rome – Jews and proselytes alike – Cretans and Arabs; we hear them preaching in our own language about the marvels of God.’

The Word of the LordP: Thanks be to God

Responsorial Psalm Send forth your Spirit. (Sung)

Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 12:3-7, 12-13No one can say, ‘Jesus is Lord’ unless he is under the influence of the Holy Spirit. There is a variety of gifts but always the same Spirit; there are all sorts of service to be done, but always to the same Lord; working in all sorts of different ways in different people, it is the same God who is working in all of them. The particular way in which the Spirit is given to each person is for a good purpose. Just as a human body, though it is made up of many parts, is a single unit because all these parts, though many, make one body, so it is with Christ. In the one Spirit we were all baptised, Jews as well as Greeks, slaves as well as citizens, and one Spirit was given to us all to drink.

The Word of the LordP: Thanks be to God

Gospel Acclamation: Seinn Alleluia (Sung)

Gospel

Gospel: John 20:19-23In the evening of the first day of the week, the doors were closed in the room where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews. Jesus came and stood among them. He said to them, ‘Peace be with you’, and showed them his hands and his side. The disciples were filled with joy when they saw the Lord, and he said to them again, ‘Peace be with you.

‘As the Father sent me,so am I sending you.’

After saying this he breathed on them and said:

‘Receive the Holy Spirit. For those whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven;for those whose sins you retain, they are retained.’

The Gospel of the Lord

P: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Homily: Canon Jim O’Donovan.

Nicene Creed:

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made,

consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,

and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Reflection: Eileen FitzgeraldPrayer of the Faithful

Introduced by Aidan O’Mahony, Parish AssemblyOpening Prayer; Bishop Buckley

God gives us the gift of the Holy Spirit to be our guide and consoler. With confidence in God’s love and care let us present our needs and prayers.

1) We pray for the Church, for Pope Francis and Bishop John and for us its members - may we profess our faith in Christ with love and courage.Lord, hear us.

2) We pray for vocations, that these whom God calls may give their lives in the service of the Gospel.

3) We pray for the sick and those who are in any worry or distress, that the Lord may bring them peace and strength and good friends to help them.

4) We pray for all who come from other lands to live in our country, that they may be welcomed.

5) We pray for all who have supported the Church of St. Michael down through the generations, that they may be rewarded for their faith and generosity.

6) We pray for all who have gone before us in faith, may they be brought to share in the fullness of life in Gods presence.

Conclusion: Loving Father, fill us with the power of your Holy Spirit. Hear our prayers and grant us what we need now and for the future. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks,Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God.

For bringing your Paschal Mystery to completion, you bestowed the Holy Spirit todayon those you made your adopted childrenby uniting them to your Only Begotten Son.This same Spirit, as the Church came to birth, opened to all peoples the knowledge of Godand brought together the many languages of the earthin profession of the one faith.

Therefore, overcome with Paschal joy, every land, every people exults in your praiseand even the heavenly Powers, with the angelic hosts, sing together the unending hymn of your glory,as they acclaim:

Holy Holy: (Sung)Holy Holy; Holy Lord God of hostsHeaven and earth are full of your glory Hosanna in the highestBlessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.Hosanna in the highestHoly Holy; Holy Lord God of hosts

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER II

You are indeed Holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness.Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray,by sending down your Spirit upon them like the dewfall,so that they may become for usthe Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. At the time he was betrayedand entered willingly into his Passion,he took bread and, giving thanks, broke it,and gave it to his disciples, saying:

Take this, all of you, and eat of it,for this is my body, which will be given up for you.

In a similar way, when supper was ended,he took the chaliceand, once more giving thanks,he gave it to his disciples, saying:

Take this, all of you, and drink from it,for this is the chalice of my Blood, the Blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for manyfor the forgiveness of sins.Do this in memory of me.

The mystery of faith: ‘He is Lord’ (Sung)

14

Therefore, as we celebratethe memorial of his Death and Resurrection,we offer you, Lord, the Bread of life and the Chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have held us worthyto be in your presence and minister to you.Humbly we pray that, partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ, we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.Remember, Lord, your Church, spread throughout the world, and bring her to the fullness of charity, together with Francis our Pope and John our Bishopand all the clergy.

Remember also our brothers and sisterswho have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection, and all who have died in your mercy:welcome them into the light of your face.Have mercy on us all, we pray, that with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God,with blessed Joseph, her Spouse, with the blessed Apostles, and all the Saints who have pleased you throughout the ages,we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life, and may praise and glorify youthrough your Son, Jesus Christ.

Through him, and with him, and in him, O God, almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honour is yours, for ever and ever.
