Kiwanis Club of Harker Heights P O Box 2309 Harker Heights, TX 76548 Upcoming Speaker Roster: 2012 July 2012 July 10 – G Weaver July 17 – L Youngblood July 24 – E Zellmar July 31 – Business Meeting Harker Heights Kiwanis Club Meeting 07-10-12 Speaker: Carolyn Robertson, Director Topic: Mission Killeen- 1500 E Rancier Ave, Killeen 76541 It is a food bank started by Eastside Baptist Church about 11 years ago and serves over 2100 clients every month. Food comes from the Capitol Area Food Bank in Austin. Clients must have ID and prove need. They receive about 2 weeks supply of food for the number of members in the household. They also have gently used clothes and disposable diapers. It operates with 14 volunteers at this time. If interested in volunteering or making donations call: Phone: 254-501-8586 Hours of Operation: M-Tu-F 10 am-12pm M & F 5:30-6:30 pm Other activities include adult and children’s Bible study. Club Business: Prayer: Darrel Charlton Pledges: Randy Stone Song: All Board Meeting today after the regular meeting Darrel thanked members for their help with the flag program: Bob Dunlap for the billing, Jos Portmann for doing the rosters, Diane Thompson collecting the money, the drilling team Gene Weaver, James Hoyle and Norm Dunbar along with all those who put the flags out on holidays. He would like all the club members to promote the golf tournament, advertising signs and the comedy show at the convention. (open to the public). Posters for both have been emailed to you. Darrel did an interview with the Killeen Daily Herald and has an interview with James Harrison for “Talk of the Town” on KTEM radio 7-27-12. His wife is extremely helpful to the officer answering all the questions asked of her husband. He tries to get her to just “shut up”! It couldn’t get worse. Sec. 545.411. USE OF REST AREA: OFFENSE. (a) A person commits an offense if the person remains at a rest area for longer than 24 hours or erects a tent, shelter, booth, or structure at the rest area and the person: (1) has notice while conducting the activity that the activity is prohibited; or (2) receives notice that the activity is prohibited but does not depart or remove the structure within eight hours after receiving notice. (b) For purposes of this section, a person: (1) has notice if a sign stating the prohibited activity and penalty is posted on the premises; or (2) receives notice if a peace officer orally communicates to the person the prohibited activity and penalty for the offense. (c) It is an exception to Subsection (a) if a nonprofit organization erects a temporary structure at a rest area to provide food services, food, or beverages to travelers and the Texas Department of Transportation: (1) finds that the services would constitute a public service for the benefit of the traveling public; and (2) issues a permit to the organization. (d) In this section, "rest area" means public real property designated as a rest area, comfort station, picnic area, roadside park, or scenic overlook by the Texas Department of Transportation.Acts 1995, 74th Leg., ch. 165, Sec. 1, eff. Sept. 1, 1995.
