A Message From NAIFA-Omaha President Preston Speece, LUTCF

We’re 99 and Counting

As we begin this, our Local Association’s 99th year, I couldn’t be more excited and proud to be at the

leadership helm. As an organization we owe a debt of gratitude to Doug Pikop for the leadership he

provided as president in 2007-2008. Doug was one of the most organized leaders I have ever been

around and he did a great job of not only assembling a very talented Board of Directors — but also

making certain they were plugged into roles that reflected their talents. Thanks again to Doug for his great work this past year!

That’s right, this is NAIFA-Omaha’s 99th year and boy, we are riding a wave of momentum! Speaking of wave — don’t

forget to register for the upcoming NAIFA National Convention and Career Conference scheduled for Sept. 6-10 in beautiful

San Diego. The title for the convention is “Catch the NAIFA Wave” and it is jam-packed with some great events and sessions.

Also, it would be great for NAIFA-Omaha to have a strong showing of support for our own Terry Headley as he campaigns

for NAIFA Secretary!

Our next luncheon meeting is scheduled for July 17 at Champion’s Run Country Club. You won’t want to miss our speaker,

John Davidson. John is the immediate past president of NAIFA and he will share a very strong message and sales ideas to grow

your practice. We have great programs lined up for this year as well as a local membership that added 135 new members this

past year! Thanks to Mark Scott, his membership team, and all of you for helping our organization grow.

In conclusion, I want to welcome our newest board members. Joining us this year to serve three-year terms are Carlo

Rinaldi, Paula Harris, Lisa Skinner and Jim Codr. We are fortunate to have such a talented lineup of future leaders.

Again, I look forward to serving as your president this year!

In the evolution of every society, thepeople come to an impasse: a defining mo-ment. A time when a critical issue of theday must be solved. And how that societysolves that problem defines its people. Wehave reached such a point today.

The issue, of course, is the delivery ofhealth care to all Americans. We are at acrossroads in the debate, with some point-ing to a bigger role for government andothers locked in the mire and confusionof the status quo. But some, like NAIFA’sadvocate for health and employee benefits– AHIA (association of Health InsuranceAdvisors) – has been busy detailing sophis-ticated plans to fix America’s health caresystem, by building on its strengths andcorrecting its problems. To view Rx forHealth Care – The Advisors’ Perspective, visit the Advocacy Principles section ofwww.ahia.net.

We, as agents and advisors, are singu-larly qualified to address this problem. No

The Health Care Crisis: A Defining Momentother group can intimately identify withthe lament of the consumer whose pre-miums have risen yet again, whilesimultaneously understanding the reason-able necessity for companies to raise ratesto insure risk. We are in the middle, be-tween the consumer and the company, andwe owe it to both to use this perspectiveto solve the crisis.

What can one agent do alone? Notmuch. But thousands of individual agentsand advisors, banding together under theAHIA banner, can promote favorable stateand federal policy, address consumergroups nationwide, testify before Con-gress, provide the media with information, and much more. Individual agents takeone step first, on their own. They fill outan application to become a member ofAHIA.

Through membership in AHIA, youhave the advantage of increased partici-pation in the legislative process, a better

understanding of healthissues, and a means to become an evengreater asset to your clients and prospects. If you sell major medical, disability incomeprotection, long-term care, critical illness,or Medigap, you need to be a member. And your industry needs you.

Here we find ourselves at a defining mo-ment for our nation, and our industry isat the center of the debate. If we can’t bandtogether to find a solution, who will? Willthe doctors decide for us? Or the lawyers?Do they have more foresight than we do?

With the health insurance industry un-der intense scrutiny, we ALL need tobecome members. Are YOU an AHIAmember?

If not, complete the application below, visit www.ahia.net or call (703) 770-8200for more information on how you canenjoy the many benefits of AHIA mem-bership.
