It’s important to periodically examine your Chamber participation and be sure you’re getting everything possible out of your investment – both in money and time! Now is a perfect time to step back, evaluate and make necessary adjustments. Don’t have a plan? The Chamber can help! Here are some basic first steps to be sure you are giving your business every possible advantage.

1. Do you know everything that’s available to you? Attend a Business Builder for a refresher course on the various programs and services available to you. There will be a review of all the various Chamber programs and insights as to what will be most effective for you.

2. Attend the FREE events! The Chamber calendar includes a series of events free to members, all designed to help you create a marketing and networking plan and track its success. Business Builders, To Sell is NOT to Sell. One-on-One 101s and seminars all work congruently to help you maximize your Chamber involvement.

3. Have you scheduled a Ribbon Cutting? It’s great PR and for Chamber members, it’s free! We can come to you with the ribbon and giant scissors, take the photo and put it in the newsletters. Are you a home-based business or in a warehouse? We do Ribbon Cuttings in the Chamber boardroom once a month!

4. Does the Chamber have your 25 keywords and phrases? Remember, the Chamber’s website has a search engine similar to a Google search. When you join the Chamber, we ask you for 25 keywords or phrases that describe your company’s products and services. Those keywords and phrases enable visitors to the Chamber’s site to find you more quickly. Keep them up-to-date and accurate so the Chamber’s site can work for you. www.palmbeaches.org receives 125,000 visitors per month; make sure they can find you!

5. Are you offering a Member-to-Member Discount? It may be all your fellow members need to try you above your competition!

6. Do you have a message you need to get out to the members? Advertising is another tool for communicating with Chamber members and the community. The Chamber offers a variety of advertising vehicles from the website to Chamber publications and newsletters. The Chamber even offers discounted advertising packages and mailing labels for mailing to the members and important local officials and agencies.

7. Do you have your user name and password for the Chamber website? You should be using them to do everything from making reservations for Chamber events to updating your contact information and keywords. They are also your vehicle for submitting items to the Chamber’s Community Calendar.

The Second Half of 2011 is Here!

Page 19: July 2011 eBusiness Watch

July 2011 19

8. Are you using the Chamber e-plaque? It appears on YOUR website as an image that establishes credibility for you and your business. It lets clients and customers know that you are a member of the Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches and a serious participant in our area’s business community. It’s easy and it’s free with your membership!

9. Are your brochures or business cards in the Chamber lobby? The Chamber responds to more than 20,000 telephone, e-mail and walk-in inquires annually. Make sure your brochures are working for you in the Chamber lobby!

10. Are you getting referrals from your contacts? Chamber members are trained to give referrals to fellow members. The Chamber website, directories, newsletters and events are all geared to make it easier for members and consumers to find you.

The Chamber reaches a select demographic of business owners, residents, area professionals, corporations and non-profits and visitors to Palm Beach County; make sure they know who you are and what your company does.
