Presidents Report July 2016So here we are in the middle of winter and as I write this theres not a cloud to be seen in the sky. Ok so it is a little chilly but all in all great riding weather, hopefully the same tomorrow as I’m heading up to Hampton Downs for a test day on the KTM. Also present will be Dillion and Graeme from Red Devil Racing running another rider training day, limited to 3 riders per day the Red Devil Team offer a real one on one coaching experience covering not just your riding but also tuition of how to do things right off track on race day. They will be offering this at various times throughout the season and I strongly recommend the service to any racers/track day riders, give them a call to discuss if you want to know more.June saw the IOM TT races run in what must have been some of the consistently best weather the event

has seen. Club member Horst Saiger had a great week with a best result of 13th in the highly competitive Superstock TT and a bronze replica. Michael Dunlop really took things to a new level overall with wins in the Superbike and Senior TT’s continuing the amazing Dunlop family legacy at the TT. Despite riding with injuries Kiwi Bruce Anstey added another TT to his tally of 11 when he won the electric class as well as 5th and 8th place finishes in the Senior and Superbike TT’s.The trials boys have their biggest event of the year this coming weekend with the club hosting a round of the North Island championships. Good luck to all competing and thanks to all the club members volunteering time to make this event happen. The course is spectator friendly so get on out to the venue and support our riders, venue details are on the poster elsewhere in the mag.

2016 Mid-winter dip - Whangamata

Fourteen bikes, with riders and a pillion, turned up for this years iconic winter soltice low celsius ride. See if you can work out who’s who from the pics. Steve Walter brought along two L plate riders on smaller bikes and another club member came on his Yamaha 225. Great to see a wide range of rides. Not so for dippers; just 2 dips this year. Maybe we’ll have to add a trophy for the longest dip at next years prize giving? Above: The bikes gathered together outside the Whangamata Surf Club. Sunny day, mostly dry roads, mostly cool airs.

Upcoming Events to watch out for:Track Marshals BBQ and TrainingThe committee is planning to hold a thank you to marshals for round 1 of this years winter series by providing a BBQ and some drinks. It is also a chance to invite those who plan to marshal at round 2 and 3 in September & October, particularly those who may not have marshalled before and would like to know something about it before deciding if they’d like to help out. So, we’ll be giving a training session by way of going over the pre-race marshal briefing. In addition, the Clerk of the Course and the MNZ Steward will be there to go over their roles and relationship with marshals. This will also give a chance to ask questions you may have thought of and never asked before. It is also an opportuity to provide general feedback that can be considered for the next round at Taupo.Lastly, we will ask St Johns if they would be interested in coming to provide any insights for marshals as first responders to accidents. Wile we haven’t done this before, and incidents have been handled well in the past, we still recognise that we don’t know what we don’t know and some basic tips may come in handy. When & where: The clubrooms on Sunday 7 August - TBC (check the August magazine for the confirmed date).

Monthly Road RidesThe committee has planned the July ride to be a hotpool ride on Sunday July 17 to Miranda Hot Springs and for August we’ll be running the Coromandel overnighter for August 20 and 21. We have not set the rides for September, October and November yet, but I expect one will be a revised “Te Anga ride” - heading to Te Anga and taking the west coast road that comes out near Awakino, maybe going on to Mokau for lunch. Another past fave has been to Kerosene Creek. New routes - let a commmittee member know about a new ride, or any new ideas you may have, we could do for September, October & November at the next clubnight !!!
