PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS
Father, you call each one of us by name and ask
us to follow you. Bless your church by raising up
dedicated and generous leaders from our families and
friends who will serve your people as Sisters, Priests,
Brothers, Deacons and Lay Ministers. Inspire us as we
grow to know you, and open our hearts to hear your call.
We ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.
MEMORARE
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known that anyone who fled
to your protection, implored your help, or sought
your intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you,
O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you do I come,
before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother
of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions,
but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen.
SAINT MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL,
Defend us in battle. Be our protection against
the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do Thou,
O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the Power of God
cast into hell, Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl
about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Jesus said to them,
“A prophet is not without honor
except in his native place and among
his own kin and in his own house.”
So he was not able to perform
any mighty deed there, apart from
curing a few sick people by laying
his hands on them.
He was amazed at their lack of faith.
315. What is the attitude of the Church toward the sick?
Having received from the Lord the charge to heal the sick,
the Church strives to carry it out by taking care of the sick
and accompanying them with her prayer of intercession.
Above all, the Church possesses a sacrament specifically
intended for the benefit of the sick. This sacrament was
instituted by Christ and is attested by Saint James. "Is any-
one among you sick? Let him call in the presbyters of the
Church and let them pray over him and anoint him with oil
in the name of the Lord" (James 5:14-15). Further read-
ing: CCC 1506-1513, 1526-1527
316. Who can receive the sacrament of the anointing
of the sick? Any member of the faithful can receive this
sacrament as soon as he or she begins to be in danger
of death because of sickness or old age. The faithful
who receive this sacrament can receive it several times if
their illness becomes worse or another serious sickness
afflicts them. The celebration of this sacrament should, if
possible, be preceded by individual confession on the part
of the sick person. Further reading: CCC 1514-
1515, 1528-1529
317. Who administers this sacrament? This sacrament
can be administered only by priests (bishops or presby-
ters). Further reading: CCC 1516, 1530

Pg. 5 14TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Today throughout the United States, we celebrate our freedom.
Our rights are protected and opportunities abound. We
recognize that freedom has a cost, one we celebrate and honor
on days such as this. It's good to honor those who fight for our
country, who may well pay the ultimate price for the liberties
we're afforded.
As faithful Catholics, we recognize that there is more to freedom
than simply being at liberty to make our lives what we want
them to be. St. John Paul II reminds us: "Freedom is not just
doing what we can, it is doing what we ought." We become
freer within ourselves and within our relationships when
we choose what is right and good. When we choose sin,
we become trapped in egoism - less free, not more.
This Independence Day, let's continue to pursue and good
character and encourage others to do the same. ©LPi
Ezekiel 2:25 / 2 Corinthians 12:710 / Mark 6:16

Could you be described as “hard of face and obstinate of art” (Ezekiel
2:4), particularly in matters of faith? What aspects of the Catholic faith
have you yet to embrace with an open heart? Do you question God’s
plan of sheer goodness (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1) for you,
a loved one, or the world? In Mass, do you believe what you cannot
see, as you witness ordinary bread and wine become the Body and
Blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ? Does the Word of God dwell in
you richly? When people spend time with you, do they “know that a
prophet has been among them” (Ezekiel 2:5)?

At Baptism, each of us receives an anointing with sacred chrism oil, at
which time the priest or deacon prays these words, “As Christ was
anointed Priest, Prophet, and King, so may you live always as a
member of his body, sharing everlasting life.” In our Baptism, we are
called to “play [our part] in the mission of the whole Christian people
in the Church and in the World” (CCC 897). Since today’s readings specifically mention “prophet,” let’s take a little
deeper look at what it means to live out our call to and share in Christ’s prophetic office.

Christ establishes the lay faithful “as witnesses and provides them with the sense of the faith [sensus fidei] and the
grace of the word” (CCC 904). His grace, as we learn from St. Paul in2 Corinthians 12:9, “is sufficient for you.” Even
more incredible, it is our very weaknesses, those moments of doubt, uncertainty, and even troubles, that burst forth
His astonishing power. Our witness is perfected by grace, especially when we are honest about our struggles of faith
but still willing to continue to seek His truth. Regardless of what we fail to understand, we still know Jesus is our Lord
and Savior. If we could see and understand all, then what would be the purpose of faith?

Witnessing, is not always as easy as sharing what Jesus has done for us or our reason to believe. The most
compelling witness comes from the things people see us do over the words we choose to speak. There can be a
great difficulty for us to be an evangelizing disciple to our friends, family, or neighbors possibly the very people we
most wish to know the goodness of our God. There is some consolation knowing Jesus himself faced such difficulty,
and to know he could be “amazed at [the] lack of faith” some people exhibit. He, however, did not give up, and neither
should we.

Instead of becoming discouraged or trying to force our desire for all to believe, perhaps this is when we pray that
someone else will bring the Good News to those we cannot. Then use our energy to learn how to better lean on the
grace of God to both grow stronger in our faith and to live out our call as Priest, Prophet, and King. To pray the Spirit
of the Lord falls upon us so we may bring glad tidings to those willing to have their obstinate hearts softened too.
(Allison Gingras, Connect LPi)
To you I lift up my eyes,
to you I turn in times of trouble
and doubt.

Pour your grace into my heart
to illuminate the things I do not
understand and long to know.
Amen.

YEAR of SAINT JOSEPH
(Dec. 8, 2020 to Dec. 8, 2021)
To you, O blessed Joseph, do we come in our tribulation,
and having implored the help of your most holy Spouse, we
confidently invoke your patronage also.
Through that charity which bound you to the Immaculate
Virgin Mother of God and through the paternal love with
which you embraced the Child Jesus, we humbly beg you
graciously to regard the inheritance which Jesus Christ has
purchased by his Blood, and with your power and strength to
aid us in our necessities.
O most watchful guardian of the Holy Family, defend the
chosen children of Jesus Christ; O most loving father, ward
off from us every contagion of error and corrupting influence;
O our most mighty protector, be kind to us and from heaven
assist us in our struggle with the power of darkness.
As once you rescued the Child Jesus from deadly peril, so
now protect God's Holy Church from the snares of the
enemy and from all adversity; shield, too, each one of us by
your constant protection, so that, supported by your example
and your aid, we may be able to live piously, to die in
holiness, and to obtain eternal happiness in heaven. Amen.
