Key to the City-An Ancient Honor in the Modern WorldWith roots going back over 1,000 years, the key to a city is recognized in many cultures as the highest

honor a City can bestow, and Elk Grove is no different. This symbolic gesture, awarded by our Mayor on behalf of the City Council, is presented to an individual or entity in one or more of several categories. Examples include acts

of heroism performed within our city limits; a resident reaching the age of 100 years or more; acts of exemplary public, civic, military, or humanitarian service; and remarkable athletic accomplishments or contributions. Unlike medieval times, any Elk

Grove resident can nominate a deserving individual or entity for this honor.

For a full list of the qualifications or to submit a nomination, please visit our website at elkgrovecity.org/key.
