Editors letter... The sun is

still shining and we are all so

very happy!

We have some good advice this month on how

to keep your skin looking good as we bare a

little bit more of it than usual for this time of

year.

On a more serious note, South Yorkshire police

also have some good advice on how to keep

your property safe with more open windows

due to the warmer weather.

This months issue features local fund raisers for

different charities who are raising money

through various challenges. Well done to all of

them and The Arrow wishes them all the very

best of luck.

The deadline for the July issue of the Arrow is

Wednesday 15th June, could you please send all

articles for the July issue before this date.

Joseph Sidebottom visited

Weston Park Cancer hospital on

Thursday 19th May along with his

Mum, Grandma, brother

Benjamin and friend Thomas.

We were all made very welcome by the Weston

Park Cancer Charity team who showed us around

and made a big fuss of Joseph and the boys.

The grand total raised was £1319.50. This money

will be used by the charity to further invest in new

treatments for Cancer patients at Weston Park

hospital. Joseph‘s granddad who sadly passed away

on 26th April had been receiving excellent

treatment and care from the hospital.

Thank you again to everyone who has so

generously donated. Joseph‘s Just giving web page

is still open if anyone would like to donate online

NEWS RELEASE FROM

SOUTH YORKSHIRE POLICE

Keep your property secure! As the warm weather arrives police in Doncaster

are advising residents to be vigilant and keep their

property secure.

During the last few weeks, there has been an

increase in thefts of items from resident‘s gardens,

such as garden furniture, hanging baskets and

ornaments.

Sergeant Jez Fitzgibbons said: ―We have had a

number of thefts reported over the last week,

where items have been stolen from people‘s

gardens. The people committing these thefts will

undoubtedly be opportunistic thieves who pass by

the garden and see something they like or can sell.‖

Police want to remind residents to ensure their

property is secure, by locking items away in a shed

or garage when they are not in use, and securing

hanging baskets to the wall.

Sergeant Jez Fitzgibbons added: ―We need the

public to help us prevent these types of thefts and

ensure everybody can continue enjoying the

sunshine.‖

For more information on how to keep your home

secure, you can speak to your Safer

Neighbourhood Team, visit

www.southyorks.police.uk and enter your

postcode or call 01142 202020 for

details of your local team.

Skincare Make up Nails Skincare Make up Nails Haven’t we been spoilt by the recent beautiful weather? Let's hope

that it will continue for the next six months – except, of course, with

plenty of rain during the nights so that the gardens don't suffer!!!

It is the weather that has prompted me to deal this month with a topic that I originally

intended to discuss later this summer, but which, with hindsight, I should have covered

last month given the unexpected sunshine. Yes, tanning, sun and sun protection are the topics

of the month.

I think it can go without saying that the majority if us feel better with a touch of colour.

Positive comments such as "You look well" and " You look healthy" make us all feel on top of the world, but we

don' t necessarily need to be sunbathing in the back garden to achieve this look. In any case, those of us who work

full-time have had few opportunities to enjoy the daytime weather. Also, even if we do sunbathe, we have to be

aware that, although some exposure to the sun is good for us, as it stimulates vitamin D production etc., over

exposure can also be dangerous to our health and extremely detrimental to our skin by prematurely ageing our

complexions.

So please always be careful! It is paramount that you use a good sun care protection with a high SPF and keep

reapplying it regularly. Factor 50 should be applied to our faces everyday, even during winter, as it is surprising how

harmful the winter sun can be. For your body, factor 20 or 30 plus is ideal.

If, however, you are anxious about or not responsive or attracted to sunbathing, or if you simply don't have the

time, there are other options for you. Salon tanning treatments achieve amazing natural results without all the

hassle. St. Tropez is an internationally respected name, which for many years has been at the forefront of sunless

tanning. With an expert team of leading figures from beauty, fashion, film and television, their perfect results are

indisputable! Many Perfect Harmony clients pop down for a late-evening appointment around 8.30-8.45 in their

dressing gowns or pyjamas, have a quick St. Tropez Spray tan and then shoot home 15 minutes later - all done and

dusted! The next morning they wake up, take a shower and are ready for anything – a wild party, a wedding, a visit

to the races or just the weekly shop at the supermarket – confident that wherever they go their skin is tanned and

beautiful.

Another option is to purchase home tanning products. These have come along heaps and bounds since the orange

streaky look that left you smelling of moth balls in the 90's; for example, the St. Tropez range have lotions,

mousse, sprays and creams in many tanning versions, including self tans, gradual build up tans and wash off colours.

So whether your choice is sun bathing in the

natural sunlight, a salon tanning treatment or

applying tanning products at home -enjoy

your Summer with a golden, warm, natural,

radiant and healthy tan!!!

Rovers Inca Trek trio of Mark Wilson, James Coppinger and James O‘Connor made a visit to the Vintage

Fish Spa in Sprotborough, ahead of their epic 62 miles trip up the Andes in June. Along with other Inca

Trekkers, Rovers Media Manager Steve Uttley, Moire MD Dave Plant and Rovers Community Officer Liam

Scully, the players stopped off for some foot spa work assisted by two hundred little fish!

The Garra Rufa fish love to live off the dead skin, cleansing the feet of unwanted material. Also known as

Doctor Fish, they originate from hot spring pools near Kangal in Turkey, and have been used as far back as

the earliest nineteenth century for not only feet but muscle and joint ailments.

The little Carp family fish swarm round the feet and attend to them, which the players found a very

strange but amazing experience which was very efficient and relaxing. With their feet being important not

only for football but also for the Trek, it was all part of the build up for the Inca Trek, which is raising

money for the NSPCC.

Owner of the Vintage Fish Spa, based at Vintage Beauty Salon, Diane Powell said ―We were looking for

something new at the Beauty Salon and at a show we saw these little fish at work. After trying it out I just

knew it would be an amazing treatment to have and it has proved very popular with everyone. We had a

bespoke custom tank and seated area built for them. We have become very fond of our fish even naming

some of them such as jaws for the biggest one‖

Mark Wilson looked a little worried when told his feet were in the thermal water tank with ‗Jaws‖ but he

felt very relaxed as they got to work on the tired after-training feet.

Mark said ―It‘s amazing as they move round your feet and can I say I

have never had anything like this before. When I took my feet out

they felt fantastic and rejuvenated.‖

The players and other Trekkers have vowed to go back, and after

the walk will probably need these little doctor fish!

The Vintage Fish Spa @ Vintage Beauty Salon is in Sprotborough

near the old church and you can book by calling 01302 850555.

Graveside Eight police officers from South Yorkshire Police in

Doncaster are aiming to complete the National three Peaks challenge to raise money for charity.

The officers will be attempting to climb the three peaks, which are Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in

the Lake District and Snowdon in Wales in just 24 hours on Tuesday, 31 May and Wednesday, 1 June.

The officers are completing training to ensure they are up for the challenge, and are practising their climbing skills on peaks in the Lake District.

The eight officers will be climbing for two charities,

Help the Heroes and the Alzheimer‘s Association, which are both close to them.

Anybody wanting to support the officers can donate to the charities by visiting the links below

www.justgiving.com/helpforheroes www.justgiving.com/alzheimerssoc

PC Gordon Doudie who has organised the challenge said: ―We wanted to do something to raise money for these worthwhile charities which have helped many people including people close to us. We hope to do

the challenge in just 24 hours which is a challenge in itself, but we are determined and focused to raise as much as we can for the charities.‖

Doncaster Advanced Motorists

Road Basics Dear readers,

The majority of car-related collisions occur near T-junctions, cross roads, side turnings, roundabouts, or

forks in the road. 95 per cent of them are caused by driver error.

By using Advanced Driving techniques and knowledge, and by developing a systematic approach to you‘re

driving you will massively reduce the likelihood of such an ‗accident‘ happening to you.

Lets consider the system used in Advanced Driving when approaching a junction.

Information. Use your mirrors and all-round vision to check the movements of other road uses. Then

consider a signal before changing course.

Position. Check your mirrors. Carefully move the vehicle into the correct position for the junction.

Speed. Check your mirrors. Adjust your speed as necessary to prepare for the turn. Signal if necessary

and brake progressively. The tighter arc of a left turn generally requires a slower speed than that of a right

turn.

Gear. Once you‘re at the right speed, select the correct gear. Reconsider a signal before turning, and

make a final mirror check.

Accelerate. As you complete the turn, accelerate smoothly to an appropriate speed, bearing in mind the

driving conditions.

Remember.

Brakes are for slowing, gears are for going;

don‘t use the gears to slow you down.

Always drive in a way that allows you to

change your plan if a signal is ignored.

Remember all junctions are hazards.

Pull away from a junction only when it‘s com-

pletely safe to do so.

Always consider signalling well in advanced of

a manoeuvre and take up the correct road position

decisively.

Watch out for cyclists who ignore the red

light at traffic lights.

Always select the correct lane and signalling proce-

dure when approaching and negotiating roundabouts.

Your entry and exit should be decisive, well ob-

served, and safe.

If you are interested in the courses that we offer,

you‘ll be able to find this information on the Institute
