Even though the school year was coming to an end, the Clovis West Key Club kept up with their perseverance. The club members volunteered more than thirty hours of their time for both Relay For Life and Memorial Day Run. In addition, thanks to their fastidious secretary, Julieanne Nguyen, their MRF's were sent in on time with pinpoint accuracy. As a result, the Clovis West Key Club was awarded with Club of the Month.Written by Michelle Lee, Clovis West Key Club Vice President

BUCHANAN HIGH

For the last few months of the school year, Buchanan Key Club took on a huge project, collecting items to make care packages to send to the troops still overseas. Coming from a school where several alumni have died serving overseas, we felt amazing to see our project take off and to see the success. Our club was able to fill five big boxes with things, such as toiletries, candy, jerky, and more. We even had a packaging party at an officer’s house where we made over 20 cards and packaged all the items into boxes. After spending months on this project, we are excited to do more with it in the future. Written by Tracy Liu, Buchanan Key Club Vice President

CLOVIS WEST HIGH

Last month, the Clovis West Key club memberscame out during all hours of the day for an event called“Relay For Life.” This event is a fundraiser run by the American Cancer Society, however what is so unique about this fundraiser is that it lasts an entire twenty-four hours. This event not only raises funds for cancer research, it celebrates survivors and encourages those still fighting. Many key clubbers sacrificed two days of their weekend and came out to the local junior high school to help set up for the event as well as clean up after.Written by Claire Carlson, Clovis West Key Club Bulletin Editor

CLUB SERVICE HIGHLIGHTS (cont.)

EDISON HIGH

The date was June 9th. The scene was a run-down camp near Shaver Lake. Camp El-O-Win was in desperate need of repair. The cabins were being taken over by spiders, the roof tiling was being devoured by insects, cracks covered the walls, and dirt was in abundant supply. It looked like a job for the Edison High Key Clubbers.

As always, these community service dynamos were up to the challenge. Power cleaners and caulking guns in hand, they went to work repairing good ol’ Camp El-O-Win. “It was hard work, but it felt good to help out,” says member Valentina Fontes. She, along with three other valiant members of the Edison High Key Club worked from the early hours of the morning ‘til the late afternoon to ensure El-O-Win would be habitable by summer.

“It’s really cool to be able to help fix up a camp I’ve been going to for years,” says Hailey Stinecipher, club vice president. Thanks to their hard work, El-O-Win will be in tip-top shape for the Girl Scouts like Hailey who use this camp every summer.

By the end of the afternoon, Camp El-O-Win was all systems go for summer. Cabins (practically) spider-free, roofs repaired, cracks filled, and rooms dusted until they shone. “All in a day’s work,” jokes Kendra Quinlan, club president, as she dusts her hands off on her jeans. And for the members of Edison High’s Key Club, it was. Written by: Alexandra Bordona, Edison Key Club News Editor
