St. Marys Church 95 North Main Street Canandaigua, NY 14424 St. Bridgets Church 15 Church Street Bloomfield, NY 14469 What is it that you have gained by your participation in our faith? Have we sought to become greater servants, or do we serve ourselves? The world is full of selfish sanctification. How are we different? We have been greatly challenged over the last several weeks. We have not gathered and not celebrated the Sunday Eucharist, most importantly, since March. We missed Palm Sunday, Pentecost, and Easter among the other full and wonderful Masses of the year. And yet, we had an opportunity, one that continues, too, to respond as Christ to an aching and broken world who so desperately needs him. Do you recognize this? We are the Salt of the Earth; do we flavor the world? We are the Light of the World — Then why is the world so dark? The fear is that we are not living up to our call. We have rather decided to look like everyone else except for the weekly habit of coming to Church. Then even that was gone. Now that we have returned, will we finally choose Christ over all else? Will we let any persecuted man, woman, child (born and unborn) suffer? Will we give our hearts and souls to him who gives us everything? Did the time away remind you of this? Rejoice today, not that youre here only, but that you have been called and commissioned to proclaim with all your hearts that Christ has made you wealthy and restored your beauty. Rejoice always, laugh easily, be prudent in judgment, and let nothing come between you and Our Blessed Lord ever. Nothing else really matters if we can commit ourselves to that. Pastors Note There will be four phases to our own reopening here at St. Benedict Parish. Phase 2—Parish Administration Center: July 13th – Procedure is being determined. Phase 3—Daily Masses: August 15th – Schedule to be determined. Phase 4—St. Marys School: To be determined. Any of the above is subject to change as things are largely unpredictable right now. Additionally, the parish lawn sale and festival, and service camp has been cancelled for 2020. I am grateful beyond words for the kindness and thoughtfulness I have been shown through this. In some sense, the reopening is the hardest. I appreciate your continued patience and ask you to understand that we are doing this in a very deliberate and intentional way to ease the level of work and peacefully make the many modifications that we must. What is it that you have gained by your participation in our faith? Have we sought to become greater servants, or do we serve ourselves? The world is full of selfish sanctification. How are we different? We have been greatly challenged over the last several weeks. We have not gathered and not celebrated the Sunday Eucharist, most importantly, since March. Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to

You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen

As painful as the decision was to suspend all public Masses at St. Benedict Parish during this pandemic, the process was necessary for your safety and health. As we see numbers flatten and decrease, we are beginning to sense the situation im-proving. In the interest of the common good, we do not want to contribute to a second wave that could disrupt our liturgical life. As health restrictions are eased and we are able to start gathering together again, it is important for everyone to accept that things will not immediately go back to life before the pandemic. We know the desire to return to our parish, participate in the liturgy, and receive the Eucharist is incredibly strong, but we ask that everyone approach this reopening with a patient, loving and charitable mindset. As Fr. Michael mentioned in the Pastor’s Note on the front page of this bulletin, St. Benedict Parish will resume its Sunday liturgies on Saturday, June 20th at 25% capacity and the schedule will be as follows:

5:30pm Saturdays at St. Mary’s Church – this Mass will be videotaped 7:30am Sundays at St. Mary’s Church 9am Sundays at St. Mary’s Church 10:30am Sundays at St. Bridget’s Church 12 noon Sundays at St. Mary’s Church

*Please note that this schedule is subject to change after gathering additional information this weekend (attendance, feasi-bility of adhering to the cleaning schedule between Masses, etc.) What to Bring to Mass 1.Yourself and any family members or friends that wish to attend, provided that anyone wishing to attend Mass can be cer-tain of the following:

• I have not had COVID-19 symptoms in past 14 days, • I have not had a positive COVID-19 test in past 14 days, • I have not had close contact with anyone with a confirmed or suspected COVID-19 case in past 14 days, and • I do not have a temperature of 100 degree or more;

2. A mask for all who will be attending; 3. Personal bottles of hand sanitizer, if possible, to use before Communion and afterward; 4. Patience and understanding as this is new to all of us and there are sure to be bumps along the way. Things to Be Mindful of During the Return Process 1. A general dispensation from the Sunday obligation will remain until further notice. The dispensation for the obligation to attend Mass will remain in effect. No one will be required to attend Mass when public celebrations resume. Hence, a vide-otaped Mass will still be made available on our website each weekend. (We will not gather publicly for Daily Mass at this time, but they will continue to be videotaped and will be made available each day.)

2. Attendance will be limited. Restrictions will remain on holding large gatherings, and we have been working and will con-tinue to work on the best way to ensure safety. The current State guideline is 25% capacity for our place of worship. It is likely that all parishioners may not be able to attend Mass regularly at first.

3. Social distancing will be practiced. Our parish will have pews that are taped off, and that households, even of one individu-al, will be asked to keep six feet of separation from each other. No one will be admitted without a mask. If you are uncomfort-able wearing a mask, or you have an illness that prevents you from wearing a mask, you are asked to stay home. Parishioners are encouraged to take their temperature before coming to Mass. Anyone with any symptoms of sickness must stay home to ensure the safety of all.

4. Liturgical changes will be in place. Similar to protocols established when churches were closing, extra precautions will be taken. Temporary adjustments will be made to how we celebrate Mass and receive Communion. Parishioners should main-tain social distancing in the Communion line as much as feasibly possible. Masks must be worn in the Communion line and must continue to be worn when saying “Amen” and receiving the Eucharist in the hand. Communicants are asked to not pull their masks down and place the Eucharist in their mouths until they step away from the priest or Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion.

5. There still will be a risk for anyone who attends a public Mass. Even with best health practices and strict social distancing, anyone who enters a public space should recognize there is a risk of contracting any virus, including coronavirus. Improved cleaning will occur at our churches, including between each Mass, but no one should expect that they will be any safer from germs than in other public spaces.

Finally, we should recognize that this is a unique time and we need to continue to work together to make progress. There will be challenges and frustration. You may choose not to attend Mass for the first few week and that’s fine. We believe these guidelines are a call to love our neighbors. If we all work together, we can incrementally expand our options and increase our participation in the liturgy. However, if we look for ways to get around the regulations, we will likely contribute to the sick-ness and death of others, creating situations that force us to take steps back. Each of us is called to be faithful members of the Body of Christ as we implement the reopening of our churches. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do in our parish communities.

St. Benedict Parish Celebrates Sacraments with Re-strictions in Place This past weekend, we were able to celebrate First Com-munion with three of our young people. Cooper Cronk (not pictured) celebrated his First Communion on Saturday, June 13; Kenneth Gersbach (left*) celebrated his First Com-munion during our videotaped Mass on Saturday, June 13; and Elsa McKellar (right*) celebrated her First Communion on Sunday, June 14. Though we are still not able to open our confessionals due to social distancing restrictions and health/safety guide-lines, all three of these young people were able to celebrate their First Penance in alternate locations — the nave of the Church or on the enclosed side porch of the rectory. We congratulate Cooper, Kenneth, and Elsa on taking these important steps in their faith formation. God bless you and your families. Additional Sacramental celebrations are scheduled throughout this month and we look forward to celebrating with those young people and their families.

*Photos are used with permission by the families.

What to Expect as Masses Resume, continued from page 3 We will not have holy water in the Churches until further notice. Though you will not be able to bless yourself with holy water upon entering the Church, it is still appropriate to show reverence by kneeling or bowing to the tabernacle before and after Mass (and the altar during Mass). There will be very limited seating in the handicap accessi-ble section at St. Mary’s due to social distancing. We ask that you save those seats for the individuals that need to use that section. Since seating will be every other pew (or every third pew in the back half of St. Mary’s Church), you may get to Mass and see that it is very full. If that is the case and proper so-cial distancing may not be able to be maintained, you may consider coming back for a different Mass. We are asking that there be no standing along the sides of church or in the back of church at this time. We are unable to use the handled baskets to collect the offertory at this time. Baskets will be placed in the front of the Churches instead. Please place your envelopes and loose cash in the basket or if you wish to sign up for online giving and have not done so already, please see the home page of our website at https://stbenedictonline.org/ to sign up. If you are bringing personal bottles of hand sanitizer to Mass with you, we ask that you do not use the sanitizer on the pews as it will destroy the finish. We will be cleaning between each Mass with products that are safe for individu-als and the wood pews. No books (hymnals, missalettes, etc.) or other papers will be in the pews at this time and bulletins will not be made available until the end of Masses. Additional information will be provided as needed.

Happy Father’s Day to all fathers and father-figures!

A Father’s Day Prayer Heavenly Father, you entrusted your Son Jesus, the child of Mary, to the care of Joseph, an earthly father. Bless all fathers and father-figures as they care for their families. Give them strength and wisdom, tenderness and patience; support them in the work they have to do, protecting those who look to them, as we look to you for love and salvation, through Jesus Christ our rock and defender. Amen.
