the 30th. Remember to bring your payment along too.

HEY COWTOWN MOPARS MEMBERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well it's June 2nd 2012 and it just so happens that this is my 49th birth-day. My mom said she was having a lot more fun today than when I was born 49 years ago. How time does move on! It seems like just last week Becky, my beautiful bride and I walked down the aisle, but in May that was 21 years ago. It seems like just yesterday, when Ben was 4, and he was bouncing plastic baseballs off my forehead. Ben will be 19 on June 17th. It also seems like yesterday that I went to my first club meeting with Rich Lemmon at Sammy's BBQ and that was about 15 years ago. I have made some great friendships with a number of people that will last a lifetime and beyond. This club is more to me than a common interest in cars. It's about the people that own them. I'm proud to be a member of Cow-town Mopars and look forward to many more years and many more lasting friendships. Rich Lemmon had a unique opportunity recently. I'm sure you will read about it in this news-letter. THANKS Rich for putting some of our show shirts in the hands of some well deserving soldiers. Susan has the picnic all lined up for us on Saturday June 30th. This is in place of our June meeting which always falls on Father's Day. We will have a mini car show with the winners getting prizes. We will also give away a number of door prizes that were left over from the car show. The club will provide food and soft drinks, but if you want to share something special from your kitchen please bring it and share it with us. I hope to see ya there; it will be a fun time. Mopars at the Motorplex! It was the best year ever! Thanks to Bill Boon, Ken Castleman and Mike Miller for their efforts this year. Thanks to the Dallas Mopar Club and the DFWLX Club for their efforts as well. A special thanks to Dave Mandato, Barry Hansen and Ken and Lesa Key for their efforts in the car show. I'm sure the event will continue to grow and I hope you are there to be a part of it. See ya! Mark Buchanan

CLUB HAPPENINGS Well folks, I believe summertime in Texas is trying to arrive . Remember that our next club meeting is going to be on Saturday, June 30th. I have reserved Longhorn Park at Benbrook Lake. The club will be providing the food. Rumor has it that “Cookie” will be doin’ up some of his famous brisket and BBQ sauce. Soda and water will also be provided. However, if any-one wants to bring their special picnic sides or desserts I can pretty much promise that someone will be willing to eat it. We will start gathering about 10 am, probably eat around noon-ish and wrap up whenever we are tired and decide to go home. We do have to be out of there by 7 pm. There is a large grassy area so if you have some lawn games that you want to bring, go ahead. I cannot say whether there are any stickers in the grass though. Also, there is a pavilion with picnic tables but you may want to bring your comfy lawn chairs if you don’t want to sit on a bench all day. There has been some discussion about going to the Friday Night Drags and Show-N-Shine at TMS the last Friday night in July, which is July 27th. I’m contacting TMS for more info and will let you know what I find out. If that is something you guys are interested in doing, let me know. I should be able to provide some info at the picnic. That’s about it for now. See ya at the picnic. Susan Activities Director

Off The Wing by Barry Hansen I don't know about you but May 27th was my “Superbowl Sunday”. Got up early and watched 6 am F1 Monaco race, 11 am Indy 500, and 4 pm World 600. I also tape them in case one gets particularly interesting. The Indy 500 did just that and I look forward to watching it again (commercial free) later in the week. Rumor is that Dodge will celebrate the return of the 2013 Viper by sponsor-ing one or two in the American Le Mans Series. The Austin, TX F1 track is trying to bring Indy Car and American Le Mans there next year. How cool would that be? Bye, bye, Corvette. And dig this, we could have three Indy Car races in TX in 2013, the usual at TMS at Ft Worth, the Houston street race is back, and possibly the Austin F1 track. Hmm, the Austin F1 track might make a good daylong cruise for us on one of their down weekends. I'm just sayin'. Good times, good weather, and great turn out for the Chrysler PDC cruise on May 12th . Irving, Dallas, and Arlington Charger police cars with officers, on display all day. (When will Dodge make the center mount 12 gauge a factory option?) The officers were in good humor and very chatty, they all really like the Charger over the oval and brand X. A Fiat Abarth and a very cool looking 2013 Dart were on display along with one model of almost everything they make. The Dart will race next year in the X Games and possibly a WRC car for Europe. If you are not aware, World Rally Cup is as popular in Europe as F1. I think the action is better. Even though a little disorganized (Cowtown and Dallas Club staffs to the rescue!) the Mega Mo-pars at the Motorplex went well. Everything seemed to start late but the weather once again was good. About half the car show entries were by the LX clubs. Many thanks to the judges from the LX ranks who showed us what to look for and how to judge the new cars. They are tough judges. Several Cowtown members are doing the whole Hot Rod Power Tour June 2nd to 9th, Detroit to Arlington. A couple of us are joining in Miami, OK and still more at Stillwater, OK for the last day's drive. Arrive Grand Prairie, QuickTrip Park on Fri 8th with a big party there Sat 9th to end it. Read a great op-ed a few months ago, I think it was in an old Mopar Collectors Guide or an old Mopar Action. It said, and I paraphrase, people who drive blue ovals and brand X usually mix up their cars. If they have a n F-150 they may also have a Malibu or a Corolla and a Mazda for the kid. If they have a Silverado they may also have a Honda or a VW or a Volvo. But people who have a Ram in their driveway will have a 300, Charger, or other Mopar for them, a Stratus, Liberty, or Neon for the wife, a Wrangler for muddin', two or three Mopar project cars, well, you get the picture. The conclusion was that Mopar people tend to stay Mopar and not mix it up, they start loyal and stay loyal. That's the way it is at our house. You might be a gearhead if... If you have ever listed your best E.T on a resume. If you skipped a date with the hottest girl in school to ride shotgun in the hottest car in school. Peace, Love, and Mopars

From The Veep’s Desk

With Summer in full swing, it seems as if there are way more automotive happenings going on than one can even begin to participate in. There is something for every taste, whether it is racing, shows, cruises, or just local gatherings of car buffs. Whatever your flavor, get your car out and have some fun. As I write this, one of the major events of the automotive year is underway. Today,

Sunday, is day two of the annual Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour. They are starting n Detroit this year, and will wind up in Arlington on Friday, at Cowboy Stadium Quick Trip Park my house. I know of at least three club members who are on the tour, and there may be more. Ron Carroll is driving his '70 Charger, Admiral Kevin Alexander is sailing the Imperial, and Kim Humphrey is riding with someone from the area. If you get a chance, it would be great to be in Arlington Friday afternoon to watch the cars come in. (Editor’s note – Ken & Lesa, Barry Hansen, Rick Mariano, Kirk Maisenbacher, Ryan Wilke, and Kevin Alexander all met up with the out of town Mopars from the power tour at Chop House Burgers in Arlington. Also, we ran in to Eldon Byers & co from Cowtown Cruisers). The fifth year for our own regional Mopar race and show, Mopars at the Motorplex, was the first year for Mopar Action magazine's sponsorship, under their Mopar Action Mega Mopar Series. There were some first year glitches, but overall it was a great transition year. The weather cooperated, and the turnout for both race and show participants was very good. I was told that there were 138 paid tech cards, and we had 48 registered car show participants. A solid turnout, that seemed to satisfy everyone. Our club members did well in the show field, with Dave Mandato, Rich Lemmon, Jim McCutcheon, Lesa Key and myself, taking home awards. Our normal meeting date is on Father's Day this year, so we will push it back until Saturday, June 30th, and have it during our scheduled club picnic and cruise at Benbrook Lake. Susan will have all the details in her activities section. See you then. Ken Key Vice President

We didn’t think the music was that loud, officers.

June 3rd was our last race for the first half of the season and it was in Ardmore, OK. There was a good turnout with 126 racers and 18 running for Cowtown Mopars. We had 2 winners in OK and they were Bill Boon semifinalist in Electronics and Bob Penfold winner in Street mus-cle. CONGRATULATIONS GUYS!!!!!! Our next club challenge race will not be until September. Stay tuned!!! See ya at the track Mark
