Please keep Father Bradley, his family and all who loved him, in your prayers and thoughts. Dear Friends of Saint Kevin, Today is the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, also known as the Solemnity of Corpus Christi. This is a time to celebrate – in a particularly focused way – what we celebrate and believe every time we gather at Christ’s altar for Mass. That is, we profess the Real Presence of the body and blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ in the elements of, and under the appearance of, bread and wine in the Eucharist. Today, as we receive Jesus, let us pray for open, quiet hearts throughout the week – hearts that will know of the presence of Jesus in the beauty around us, in the love of family and friends, in the kindness of colleagues, and even in the challenges that we face. When we eat Jesus’ body and drink his blood in the Eucharist, Jesus remains with us. Let us pray to an awareness of that presence so that we can be the body and blood of Christ to others. Please know I am a phone call away if you need anything! St. Kevin, pray for us! Father John Moloney

BEFORE COMING TO MASS Please wash your hands for 20 seconds using soap and water. Before entering the Church, please put on a face mask or cloth covering. Exceptions to this are “children younger than 2 years old, anyone who has trouble breathing, and anyone who is incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the cloth face covering without assistance” (CDC Guidelines). Please do not come to Mass if you are sick or are at higher risk for severe illness with COVID19. Missalettes will not be in the pews during this period. You are welcome to bring your own missal/readings with you. ENTERING THE CHURCH Entrance and exit will take place through the three main doors. Hand sanitizers will be available at the Church entrances. Please use the hand sanitizer upon entering and exiting the Church. SEATING When taking your seat, please honor all posted signs about where you may sit. Every other pew will be open to ensure proper social distancing. Members of the same household may sit together as normal. Please place six feet between your household and members of a different household. DURING MASS A collection box will be place in the back of church. There will be no Sign of Peace during Mass during the Yellow Phase. The Precious Blood will not be distributed during Mass during the Yellow Phase. There should be no holding of hands during the Our Father. RECEPTION OF HOLY COMMUNION Communion will be distributed by the priest in a single line. We would ask for your patience during Communion. We feel that this is for the safety of all people. Please maintain social distancing in the Communion line. Please keep several pews between you and the person in front of you while in line and when returning to your pew. During the Yellow Phase, the faithful are asked to receive Holy Communion in the hand. For those faithful who wish to receive Holy Communion on the tongue, we ask that you wait until after Mass. This can give an opportunity for the priest to sanitize his hands between each of those receiving Communion. Please remove your mask before receiving Holy Communion. EXITING THE CHURCH At the conclusion of Mass, please exit the Church and proceed directly to your car. Please do not congregate for any reason. Please take a parish bulletin home with you. Please leave your mask on until you exit the Church. OUR COMMITMENT TO YOU Saint Kevin will follow the guidelines from the CDC for sanitation as we resume public Masses. To view the CDC guidelines, visit: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/php/faith-based.html Sanitation of the church will take place after each Mass. Please watch for emails, Facebook and Twitter posts, as well as www.stkevin.com for updates.

HOW CAN I SUPPORT ST KEVIN PARISH? As we navigate these trying times brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, The Catholic Foundation of Greater Philadelphia (CFGP) is working to address the immediate needs of our faith community at every level. The suspension of public Masses has impacted our parish directly in many ways, as a result CFGP has established the Parish Support Initiative to assist in meeting the critical financial needs of our community. Please visit www.TheCFGP.org/parish to make a gift to support St Kevin Parish. You'll be able to make a one-time contribution or set up a recurring gift to be processed during the COVID-19 pandemic so that St Kevin can receive a steady avenue of support. Please contact [email protected] or call 215.587.5650 with questions or for more information. No matter how you chose to give, please know that your generosity is needed and appreciated, now more than ever.

PARISH SUPPORT INITIATIVE IN COLLABORATION WITH THE CATHOLIC FOUNDATION OF GREATER PHILADELPHIA

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: As we navigate the trying times brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, The Catholic Foundation of Greater Philadelphia (CFGP) is working to address the immediate needs of our faith community at every level. We understand that the suspension of public Masses has impacted parish communities directly in many ways. As a result, we have established the Parish Support Initiative in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Please visit www.TheCFGP.org/parish to support your home parish, or a parish in need, through the Parish Support Initiative. Below are some answers to common questions that you might have. If you need any further information, please do not hesitate to reach out to CFGP at [email protected] or 215.587.5650. Who is CFGP? CFGP is an independent, nonprofit community foundation committed to growing philanthropy according to the teachings of Jesus Christ. Grounded in the principles of faith and service, CFGP meets the diverse needs of donors and Catholic institutions through charitable fund management and development consulting. Our services ensure an investment in the future of our faith. Can I continue using my parish’s online giving platform? Absolutely. If your parish has an established online giving platform, we strongly encourage you to continue utilizing it. You are also encouraged to mail in your regular offertory envelopes if that is your preferred method of giving. You still have the opportunity to donate to your parish, or a parish in need, through the Parish Support Initiative. How will my parish know I donated? CFGP will provide your pastor with an overview of contributions made to their parish, as denoted on the donation page drop-down menu. What is the “Parish Most in Need” category? This option allows donors to direct their support to parishes that that are experiencing the most severe financial difficulties. These parishes will be determined by the senior administration of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia in consultation with the Archdiocesan Office for Parish Services and Support. Are there any costs associated with utilizing CFGP’s Parish Support Initiative? CFGP is providing this Initiative free of charge to your parish. There are transaction fees that accompany electronic payments. It is important to note that you will not be billed for these costs. CFGP will facilitate payment of these fees. Checks issued by CFGP to your parish will be reflective of net contribution of proceeds after deductions for fees. Our platform’s fees are as follows:

Credit cards: 2.798% + $0.26 per transaction ACH/Direct Debit: $0.75 per transaction and $5.00 per returned transaction

For example, if you make a $20 donation using a credit card, your parish will receive $19.18. 2.798% of $20 is $.56 + $.26 = $.82 for the total transaction fee How will my contact information be used if I choose to participate in the Parish Support Initiative? CFGP ensures that your information will never be sold, and you will not start receiving any additional direct mail solicitations due to your participation in this Initiative. Your information will only be shared with the pastor of the parish that you denote on the online donation form. Can physical checks be sent in support of the Parish Support Initiative? While we encourage online giving, we can also accept checks. Please do not send cash. Checks can be made payable to CFGP with Parish Support Initiative and the name of the parish you are supporting noted on the memo line. Checks can be sent to:

Parish Support Initiative - 100 N. 20th Street - Suite 301 - Philadelphia, PA 19103

How can I support other important causes in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, in addition to my parish? Many organizations in our community are in need and your support is greatly appreciated. Below are just of few of those causes: •Catholic Charities Appeal •St. Charles Borromeo Seminary Appeal •Office for Catholic Education •CFGP’s Emergency Relief Fund If you have any additional questions about the Parish Support Initiative, please do not hesitate to reach out to CFGP at [email protected] or 215.587.5650.

Dear Friends of St Kevin: Although I wish we were able to be all together in-person, I’m fortunate to be able to share the liturgy with you virtually each day. However, without public Mass, the weekly offertory can often be overlooked. I know that many of you might be struggling financially right now – our parish is feeling the same. The offertory is a vital part of a parish community. It’s important that we remember why we participate in the offertory. We give this weekly gift out of love – love for God, the Father and love for our brothers and sisters in our St Kevin Parish community and beyond. In these uncertain times, I ask that you support St Kevin one of three ways:

1. Online through the Parish Support Initiative. This initiative is made possible through a partnership with The Catholic Foundation of Greater Philadelphia. You can support your parish by visiting www.TheCFGP.org/parish. You’ll be able to make a one-time contribution or set up a recurring gift to be processed during the COVID-19 pandemic so that St Kevin can receive a steady avenue of support.

2. Online through our existing Parish Giving Link: https://www.parishgiving.org/index?e=F63040AD1C8FC65D0E4F8EEE3AF4CCE3C43790317A7BA9CE

3. By placing a check in your traditional offertory envelopes and mailing to the parish office: St Kevin Parish, 200 West Sproul Road, Springfield PA 19064

No matter how you chose to give, please know that your support is needed and appreciated, now more than ever. I am grateful to each of you for your generosity during this challenging time and throughout the year. God bless you always. Sincerely in Christ, Father Moloney

PRO LIFE CORNER

What Is Freedom? (Part 1) By Judie Brown

In the secular world, freedom is defined by Webster as “the quality or state of being free: such as a: the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action” and “b: liberation from slavery or restraint or from the power of another.” But for Catholics, freedom means something more. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, freedom is “the power, rooted in reason and will, to act or not to act, to do this or that, and so to perform deliberate actions on one’s own responsibility. By free will one shapes one’s own life. Human freedom is a force for growth and maturity in truth and goodness; it attains its perfection when directed to God, our beatitude.” It is through this second lens that we want to examine the meaning of terms such as “freedom of choice” and “freedom to choose death.” The culture of death views freedom of choice as the ability of an expectant mother to choose life or death for her preborn child. When the pro-abortion zealots promoted the Freedom of Choice Act in Congress, they were striving to make this action—the act of abortion—an enshrined part of our law. In other words, FOCA would have created an absolute right to abortion. Fortunately, the effort failed. But the desire to instill that right lives on, and in many circles the public is told that abortion is already a constitutional right, even though it’s actually not. At the other end of life’s spectrum are those who tell us that everyone has the freedom to choose to die when, where, and how he pleases. Proponents of this position include even some teens who support this view. One young person recently wrote: “Overall, euthanasia should be a God-given right to those who need extra help in ending their lives. . . . For the people, euthanasia is a freedom everyone should enjoy.” Sadly, her opinion is not unique. Books have been written about it, articles have been published, and organizations have been striving to ensure it for years.
