Social and Rec News…. We are currently in need of volunteer babysitters for Parent’s Night Out, in addition to fundraisers/donations. (Our goal is to generate a means to be able to self finance all our events without additional cover charges. From a Concerned Resident…. “After being chased by an unleashed, unfenced dog today while delivering the fly-ers, I have found out that Ohio has a Dog Chain Policy. All dogs have to either be fenced in or chained up. They are not to be able to "freely" leave their property. I do not have the official verbiage on this--that's just what Butler County 911 had told me”. On Netherland Drive we have several cats that run freely and also a couple of dogs that do as well. It is disturbing that the homeowners don’t care enough for the ani-mals to keep them indoors, fenced or leashed to keep them safe. The cats constantly are in everyone else’s yards and climb over our cars leaving their prints which no-body appreciates. The dogs are lucky they haven’t been hit with them wandering in front of cars and often the small children then follow them. Please be considerate of your neighbors who may not want pets or may have allergies, and if you want a pet keep them leashed or in your yard! Be a good neighbor and pet owner!

To Newsletter/Highlights Editors: It’s nice to know what is going on in Dutchland Woods, and I see we have a couple of newsletters, whatever they are called. I guess we have over 300 residents and the subdivision is over 30 years old, built before there was much around here. I read the official Highlights in the bill for the assessments, and it didn’t seem to have as much news as the other paper, but it didn’t have any ads either. Someone said all the stuff that is printed in that one has to be ap-proved by the trustees, and that takes time. What I would like to know, from whichever newspaper, is what is going on around here, what is supposed to go on around here, what is interesting around here, and anything else that’s news. Other places have newsletters with all kinds of information. Where I used to live had stuff like that. We have a lake that we can’t swim in, ice skate on, take a boat on, or keep the fish we catch, unless they are the wrong kind. I think it could be fixed up a little, but that costs money. Lots of lakes have fancy fountains with lights, and rocks around the edge. I guess the trustees have the most information about what is going on. So trustees, where is your information? Do we have to come to meetings to learn that, or can someone put some stuff in the paper? Now I don’t want to be put on any committee, or get on the trustees. I just would like to know more about everything in Dutchland Woods. Where do I get that? Who are the trustees and what do they do? How many are there? If they get paid, what are we paying them for? I’m going to ask the editor of the bigger newsletter to put this in, if she will, because she said her paper comes out to mailboxes and I don’t have to get on the internet. And I don’t want to get active because I’ve got lots to do to make ends meet, and I don’t want to get anyone mad. So just sign me anonymous. Thank you.
This is a new favorite of my family’s so I hope you enjoy it too!
Makes about 10-12 servings
8 peaches, peeled, pitted, and halved
1 (11.5ounce) can peach nectar
1/4 cup peach schnapps
1/2 cup butter
2 cups baking mix
2 cups sugar
1 1/2 cups half-and-half
Ice Cream
In a large zip-top re-sealable plastic bag, combine peaches, peach nectar, and peach schnapps. Seal bag, and marinate for 1 hour. Remove peaches from marinade, reserving marinade. Grill peaches over medium-high heat (350-400 degrees) for 5 minutes per side. Slice peaches length-wise; set aside.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place butter in a 13 x 9-inch baking dish. Place backing dish in oven until butter is melted.
In a medium bowl, combine baking mix, sugar, and half-and-half. Pour batter into baking dish over butter. Arrange peaches on top of batter. Do not stir peaches. Pour reserved marinade over top of peaches. Bake for 55 to 60 minutes, or until lightly browned. Serve warm with ice cream.

Meet Your Neighbors….. Sharon Mohan-Pierce on Windmill Drive… My name is Sharon Mohan-Pierce. My husband is Randy Pierce. And his daughter, Emily, lives with us. I retired in 2004 from the State of Ohio and have never looked back. My husband is a woodworker by trade and works out of our home. Emily is busy preparing for her wedding to Peter next month. Randy and I were engaged on New Years Day 2008, both having been widowed. He lived in Cincinnati and I lived in Dayton. We decided since I was no longer working and he worked out of his home, that we would split the difference and move halfway be-tween the two cities. We had looked for 6 months and I was ready to just give up when he suggested we drive by “one more house”. It turned out to be 6622 Windmill Dr. in Dutchland Woods. I loved it the first time I walked through the door. We had our closing on Oct. 3rd, 2008, moved in on Oct. 11th and were married on Sweetest Day, Oct. 18. I never felt like I was “just visiting”, this felt like home the first day we moved in. I became involved with Dutchland Woods when I went to the DWPOA Annual Meeting on March 1, 2009. I was surprised to find that there was nothing available for Social and Recreational activities except for a few special events. When the President asked if anyone had anything for Social and Rec, I raised my hand and offered to help, but told him I would not do it all myself. Three oth-ers, Karen Stephenson, Jodi Strutz and Shaun Brunner raised their hands and volunteered. Together, we created the new Social and Rec Committee and have become friends as well. And I am blessed to have a husband who encouraged me to get involved with Dutchland Woods, supports my efforts and always asks if there is anything he can do to help. Social and Rec’s first priority has been planning family activities. We all believe that quality family time is important. Also, with the economy being the way it is, we want families to be able to do things together that doesn’t cost a lot of money. And we want to plan events that appeal to all the residents. We have asked that they let us know what kind of activities they’re interested in. The first event we scheduled was an Easter Egg Hunt. We were delightfully surprised at the huge response. We offered a Parent’s Date Night on Friday, May 8th where we watched the kids so husbands and fathers could spend private time with the special women in their lives for Mother’s Day. And we plan on having another one on Friday, June 19th for Father’s Day. We want to plan Tot Play Dates for mothers who are home with their children during the day and teen events as well. We try to plan anywhere from 3 to 5 activities per month and are gradually getting more people to attend. Since there has not been any regular Social and Rec activities in the past three years or so, we’ve been trying to get residents involved again. At least once a month we have a Family Game Night and also want to have a monthly dance. And we’re hoping to have adult events like a pool party. We pass out flyers at least twice a month as reminders and have had an opportunity to speak with some of the residents. Please feel free to contact me with ideas for events at [email protected]. I enjoy living here because it’s a subdivision without the “subdivision feel”. You can’t find homes with big yards anymore, which is what we were looking for when we found our home. And we wanted a ranch with a basement. This house ‘fit the bill’. I was shocked to find out on Halloween that there are no streetlights. It’s so cool to look up at night and see all the stars that you miss when you live in the city. I love that we don’t have to worry about traffic because so many of the streets end with cul-de-sacs. And shopping, dining and services are all within 10 minutes. Everything is convenient. Our house was in move in condition, except for the pink master bedroom, which my husband refused to sleep in until it was painted. We were so happy to find a home that did not need repairs or updates. I feel truly blessed to have found our home here in Dutchland Woods.
