Destiny’s Wardrobe New

Expansion Project

Destiny’s Wardrobe creators have always had a

vision to eventually expand to complete the spe-

cialty fashion boutique. They want clientele to be-

lieve what they stand for; their motto 'We want you

Walking in your Destiny In Style." Their idea was

to bring more variety of accessories to their exist-

ing customers, as well as attract a broader and di-

verse customer base. Thomas and Telissa

Ward have already housed Tee & Tee Photography

Studio, a full service onsite portrait studio. In

March 2013, the vision came to fruition by incor-

porating a men’s line to include custom apparel,

accessories (timepieces, cufflinks, & sun-

glasses), and personal consultations. Kevin Brooks

of Tie The Knot LLC. is the partner that helped

make the vision come to pass. Mr. Brooks operates

a men clothing store in Greensboro, NC and he

wanted the potential of reaching more clients in

the Triad area. Telissa and Kevin met in April

2012 at a Summit held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church

where Kevin is a current member. The event was open to all types of vendors and Destiny's Wardrobe was

one of the vendors. It did not take long to realize how well they worked together at the event. They each had

a unique clientele they appealed to and thought it would be awesome to collaborate and have one location in

Prior to bringing in the men’s line; Telissa wanted to find other Christian entrepreneurs that offered more

women accessories;(since the specialty at Destiny’s Wardrobe is Classy Dress Hats), to enable shoppers to

have access to a one-stop shop. A mutual business associate and friend; Kim Marks (Galleria Event Center,

Greensboro, NC), introduced Telissa to Valissa (Nesse) McMillian of Steppin’ High Designer Women

Shoes. ’Nesse’ had been operating her business in Greensboro NC and wanted to branch out but, wasn’t

sure of actually partnering in an actual storefront in High Point. Most of her devoted clientele were located

in the Greensboro area and she wanted to make sure they were her first priority. But after careful considera-

tion, research, and fervent prayer she took a leap of faith. It was an instant relationship and Steppin’ High

was incorporated with Destiny’s Wardrobe. They continue to grow and make room for other ideals and

Continue to watch Destiny’s Wardrobe, Tie The Knot LLC, and Steppin’ High (Currently known as DST

Boutique) become one of the most talked about and hottest boutiques in the Triad.

Daddy's Girl

When you were young, were you a daddy's girl?

I was. I still am.

Did you look to him for your security,

for love and attention, for the understanding, and the

patience you lacked as a child?

My daddy was the center of my small world,

the focus of my affections,

the star that lit my life, shining bright.

Shining still in my heart.

The years have led me here,

weathered with maturity and responsibilities,

and I see more clearly now.

The hardships, burdens of love,

and all the small sacrifices he made for me,

for our family.

He created stability, a place to call home.

All the photographs I browse through

of a child long forgotten, scarcely remembered

smiling, so happy and so loved.

The mere thought of becoming that role model

is enough to send me cowering, afraid...

looking for guidance.

Turning to my father and my mother for support,

advice, wise counsel, and for approval.

Grown up, I see differently now...

A new perspective of a man I have always known.

Daddy's Girl continues….

My heart is full, my emotions overpowering

just in the certainty of that bond.

He's been there for me through all the conflicts

helping me over the rough, ragged stones of grow-

ing up.

My respect for him is unending,

faith is unbound, and love is unquestioning.

Even in the midst of all my imperfections, he is le-

nient,

ignoring the pitfalls, the downfalls, the shortcom-

ings, he just accepted me as I was, as I am.

The sheer purity of it leaves me awe-struck

and it lifts me up, it holds my head a little higher,

it keeps me in balance,

harmonizing with the world around me

beautifully, like an inspired masterpiece from the

soul of an honest man.

I am honored to know him, to love him, to be of

him.

He's my hero; William Lee Fair Sr., and I am his

daughter, his little girl.

..

Mrs. Telissa Ward Mr. William Lee Fair Sr.

My Dad

Who’s stronger than superman Who play ball better than Michael Jordon Who can hit a golf ball father than Tiger Woods? Who can cook better than any chief on T.V.? Who’s cooler than Barak Obama Who’s smarter than Elstein. I don’t know anyone else who can fit these shoes He might not be Bill Gates, but he can buy me a burger and shake. Now, I like Mike Epps, and he’s funny and all, but he don’t compare to my dad, nope not at all Some would say that Denzel Washington is a bad, bad, man, But when it comes to my dad he don’t stand a chance. I know yall tired of me talking about this Great Man. If the truth be told, I could go on and on. Really there’s no end. Because that’s how Great my dad is when it comes to other men. Well if I had to sum it and bring to an end, all I would say is that I’m sure glad God made my dad the way that he did. There’s no greater man that I know than my Dad. Happy Father’s Day

P.S. I forgot to tell you his name. His name is JESUS CHRIST!!!!!! By Ms. Angela Monk

DIVINE CONNECTIONS JUNE—AUGUST 2013 6

My name is Angel Guer-

rero and I’m a dad and

“Being the breadwinner is

not enough.”

I thought of this phrase

when I was at my first PTA

meeting. It was an eye-

opener seeing so many

moms and literally very

few dads. I thought to my-

self I’m sure many of the

dads have had a long day

working or maybe some

dads were still working

during the evening time as

a second shift worker. But I

wondered about the dads at

home perhaps babysitting

the child or simply just in

front of the TV set. Please don’t take this as a judgmental statement but I really do feel that they should have

been at the PTA meeting. I’m a father of three beautiful children two daughters and a son all under 10. Over

the last 12 years I’m a work at home dad. Being a stay-at-home dad has opened my eyes to many amazing

concepts. I spend a large portion of my children’s life being with them. I know their favorite flavors and col-

ors and what shows they love to watch on TV. I know what makes them happy and what makes them sad or

what scares them at night. I know their favorite jokes and what makes them laugh. In short I am my chil-

dren’s best friend or BFF for short.

Now I understand that there are many dads that don’t have this option, they have to go to work every single

day. My heart goes out to every single one of them. Placing myself in their shoes I would probably feel sad

every single morning. My heart would break as I would just kiss the foreheads of each and every one of my

children leaving for work early. I would feel a little guilty in the mornings concerned that my wife is so busy

with the kids and I can’t help her. However, coming home in the evenings would be pleasurable. I would be

so excited with the anticipation of seeing my children smile as I walk in the door. I would be excited to hear

the stories that they would share at the dinner table about their day at school. I would be proud as they show

me their accomplishments from school papers or home works. They grow up so fast, from the time I remem-

ber cutting the cord in the operating room as my wife just finished giving birth to now watching them stand

up in front of a room singing or reciting a poem. Time surely has passed by very quickly.

So what’s my point of saying all of this? Am I trying to make the reader feel guilty? I’m not giving you a

chance to answer me with your responses or your excuses as to why this is not the case in your life. Why,

this is not the way it works in your family! Please, don’t get me wrong I know that there are validated rea-

sons for not being an involved dad as you desire. But my real point is just simply this: can you do better? So

what does better look like in terms of the dad? It’s just simply what you make of it. It could be just literally

putting it on your calendar that you want to spend time with your children. Sitting with them during home-

work time and actually just reading your paper next to them instead of away from them. Also make sure to

give them words of praise for the little things that they do..

DIVINE CONNECTIONS JUNE—AUGUST 2013 7

Physical touch is also very important in a child’s life; a pat on the back is always nice for the little accom-

plishments. For young ladies I found it very interesting actually letting them paint my nails. I personally

felt awkward but at the same time I felt fantastic watching her smiles on their faces as they enjoyed the

time with me. It doesn’t take a lot of time or even any money it’s just simply spending time intentionally

with the ones you love.

As a dad, business owner, husband, community leader and best friend it’s always about getting better. If

we never strive to get better, then what are we doing? Is being apathetic really the answer to having a bet-

ter life? In my earlier question I asked is being the breadwinner enough and the obvious answer is “No it

isn’t”. I believe each and every man has been empowered by God to truly lead their family. In this in-

stance I will give you a simple definition of the word lead. It is being an example to your children of what

their future can look like. For boys it’s the example of what a man, a husband and a father should look

like. For girls it’s the example of the type of husband they should look forward to marry. Perhaps, your

thinking this is just not a standard practical enough for today’s world. One thing I’ve learned as a father

that if something is going to be changed you have to be the change you want to see.

So either I inspired you to look towards a brighter future. Or I’ve irritated you to feel guilty. As long as

each one of these emotions lead to you being involved in your children’s life as a father and a friend more

than it is now, then I have achieved my purpose of writing this story. As long as we strive to become bet-

ter dads, the world will be a better place for our future generations.

65 year old mother with 4 grown daughters and a dedicated hus-

band graduates for North Carolina Central University

May 11, 2013

Making it Happen! It’s never to late.

This phenomenal woman is no one other than Deloris Williams

mother Mrs. Callie R. Williams. Mommy I’m so Proud of you.

DIVINE CONNECTIONS JUNE—AUGUST 2013 13

Mrs. Callie R. Williams native of Durham, NC..

65 year old mother of 4 phenomena young ladies and a dedicated and praying husband and a grandmother

of a miracle child graduates from North Carolina Central University May 11, 2013 with high honors receiv-

ing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. To God be the Glory. She will tell you when

ever you ask her how she did it. She will say “with God being 1st in my life” After that everything else

falls in place. Yes, you will have your trial and tribulation but I do declare he will bring you out on top

every time with the victory. This powerful, praying, and phenomenal woman is no other that Deloris Wil-

liams mother, Mrs. Callie Raye Newman Williams.

Mrs. Williams is the native of Durham, NC and a child of Mrs. Roxie Newman and Mr. Victor Newman Sr.

Mrs. Williams have been married to a dedicated, devoted, destined for greatness man, her husband, my fa-

ther Mr. Samuel Williams a native of Durham NC. Their offspring's are Miranda, Everlina, Deloris, and

Victoria Williams and grandparents of Makayla Janea Williams. This is a blessed family. We believe that a

family that prays together stays together. Why am I featuring her in this magazine because I Love her. The

Bible says honor your mother and father that your days may be long. It also says give honor where honor is

due. I’m so grateful that the Lord blessed me with a wonderful family so I stop to take the time now to say

Lord, I thank you.

Even raising four children my mother had her eye on the prize and she pressed her way to accomplish her

goal to graduate no matter what it took. A 65 years old woman was studying, emailing teachers, helping

other students, completing projects, making sure home was covered, and most importantly praying. My

parents provided food, shelter, love, teaching, money, wisdom, hugs and kisses, and wisdom for years. Not

only did they talk the talk they walked the walked. They didn’t teach us do as I say and not as I do. Come

on somebody. It’s time to be real in this day and time. I try my best to do that because I’m not being fake

for no one. Hello. Like any family with children there were many responsibilities but my mother and father

prayed together every day and they still do. They put God 1st and made things work with the help of the

Lord. I’m so proud of my parents I pray that our lives are an encouragement to you. We are testimonies

that You can do it! Make it happen and Handle your business. (That’s my first book coming out soon).

Thanks mom for being the greatest mother in the world. She believes in her family and others and encour-

aged us that we can do it but put God 1st. She applied those same thoughts to her own goals.

In May of 2013 my mother had manifold blessings which are blessing right after another. May 9th was her

65th birthday, May 11 she graduated from NCCU, and May 12 was Mother’s day and her whole family was

there to celebrate, and her granddaughter Makayla is the miracle baby. God is great and greatly to be

praised. Blessing overtakes her and I speak many more to come in Jesus Name.

DIVINE CONNECTIONS JUNE—AUGUST 2013 14

My life is a Divine Connection. Divine Connections is important to me because

it’s not just my business name it’s my life. Never give up all things are possi-

ble. My parent’s loves unconditionally and wants everybody to prosper. So, no

matter what your goals are remember You can do it, make it happen, and

handle your business. (This book is coming out soon)

My parents always remind us to not only put God 1st but put your best foot

forward. So thanks mom for being a virtuous Woman of God and thanks dad

for being a Man of Valor.

BOOK COMING SOON…….

You Can Do It! Make It Happen &

Handle Your Business.

Mr. Samuel Williams– The Best Father in the world. (My Daddy)

My father is the best man in my life since sliced bread. Mr. Williams is a

young man from a big family of eight brothers and two sisters and son of

Maggie and Marence Williams. He is also a native of Durham, NC. Hard

worker, wise, powerful, dedicated, faithful father, husband, and faithful

member of Greater Waltown Tabernacle Holiness Church were the Pastor

is Pastor Timothy Moore in Durham, NC.

Balanced yet humbled. A young man that works, go to church, spends

time with his wife and children. My father had a bag of candy or gum

when he came home to greet his children. He fixed cars when mechanical

problems arrived, and took his family to church. My father’s loves and be-

lieves the best for his children and his wife. I am blessed but while my fa-

ther was being a real man taking care of his responsibilities he had two

aneurisms. My heart was broken I just didn't understand.

He prays and provides for us why such a hard trial. But here is the bless-

ing he survived, he is still here. God didn’t promised that we would not go

through but that he will give us the victory and that we will have life and

life more abundantly. I’m grateful he has a strong mind and the will

power to do what needs to be done. My mother and father continues to

pray till this day and anoints us that God will keep and bless us every day.

So be not dismay the storms will come but know you already have the vic-

tory. My mother is also a faithful member of Greater Waltown in Durham,

NC. Now you can see why my drive is so strong. It’s just in me and I will

continue to make things happen with the help of the Lord.
