a phantom message and an

invalid self-condemnation.

Satan will accuse us when

there is nothing there to be

accused of.

Frankly, phantom guilt

is a nuisance.

Have you seen the film,

“A Beautiful Mind?” The main

character, John Nash, is a

schizophrenic. He heard voices

that were not real. He could not

escape them, but had to learn

to know they were phantoms,

not real, and that for his sanity,

he must learn to ignore them,

not empower them.

Learning to live with

phantom guilt is like that. “It is

for freedom that Christ has set

us free. Stand firm, then, and

do not let yourselves be

burdened again by a yoke of

slavery” – Galatians 5:1; and

similarly, “Therefore, there is

now no condemnation for

those who are in Christ Jesus”

– Romans 8:1.

Imagine that, Lutherans

who don‟t feel guilt! How cool

is that? Would you be

interested in a special Bible

class on this topic? If so, see

Pastor Dave.

-------------

Our theme this year is,

“His love – our response.” And,

it‟s happening!

On May 15th we tipped

our hats to the many servants at

OSLC who do everything from

fold bulletins to fold up tables

after fish fries. From those who

trim the roses to those who trim

the Christmas tree. From those

who communicate Sunday school

lessons to children to those who

communicate the Sunday readings

from the lectern. The list of tasks

and those who complete the tasks

could go around the globe over

and over. Thank you servants!

You don‟t do it for praise, but as

praise, praise to The One who

redeemed you! Thank you for

responding!

---------------

Phantom guilt

This story was told on a

Sunday in May during worship. A

young man from our church lay in

bed and experienced horrifically

painful leg cramps. They were

disabling to him, the discomfort

was so intense.

Whenever this

happened, he would

look down at his leg

and it was not there.

It was amputated

after an accident.

The leg was gone, but there were

phantom pains, real pains.

Do you ever walk around

feeling guilty when you have not

done anything wrong? Or, after

having just left the Lord‟s

Supper even, have you still felt

guilty? Those are phantom

feelings, phantom accusations

that you are experiencing. In

Christ, once you have been to the

cross, your guilt is gone, it has

been removed.

Phantom guilt, as we call

it, is common for everyone, but

somehow Lutherans experience

it frequently. The enemy has

several names. One of them is

the accuser. In the book,

“Pilgrim‟s Progress,” the main

character reports hearing his own

voice accusing him of things he

knows were already removed at

the cross. Come to find out, it is

Satan, standing behind him,

imitating his own voice, and

whispering messages of guilt that

do not exist – Phantom guilt.

Should you experience

this, you now know it is not real.

That guilt is no more real than

that man‟s missing leg! You may

have to live with it, but at least

you can know that Christ has

taken your burden at the cross.

It‟s not real guilt. It‟s an illusion,

David H. Hatch

I’m buying a lawn tractor,

with scrip!

He came in the church

office, carrying an armful of

questions about scrip. He said

he was buying a new lawn

tractor and wanted to know if

the church‟s “gift card”

program (also known as scrip)

could be a way that he could

get that tractor and help the

church at the same time. It was

not long and his questions were

replaced with a heap of gift

cards. He was equipped. He

left the church office with a

smile as wide as the door.

Those gift cards would be used

to buy that tractor, and that

tractor would not only cut grass

but a give a cut of the purchase

price back to the church, thanks

to the store where he got that

tractor. Pretty nice advantage,

eh? Stop by the welcome

center and learn more!

include sets of Encyclopedias and

clothes. Televisions and computer

monitors are limited to flat screen

or flat panel. Missed bringing your

children’s items for the kid’s sale

in May? Bring them now for the

super sale!

Beginning August 1, all

donations, including large items,

can be dropped off in the gym.

Please call the church office as

soon as possible if you need to

have your large items picked up.

If interested in being a part

of the pick-up squad, please let

Michelle know. She will get you in

touch with the movers and

shakers. Michelle can be reached

at: (920)468-4065 or by

e-mail: [email protected]

This year’s super sale will

be held on Saturday, Aug. 20 from

8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Add it to

your calendar now, tell your

neighbors and friends and then

begin to clean out your garage,

closets, cupboards, basement, etc.

Donations can be accepted until

Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 12:00 p.m.

This request is made so that we

have time to clean and tag the

items in preparation for

Saturday’s sale.

Workers are needed at 9:00

a.m. on Monday, Aug. 1 to move

items from the basement to the

gym and to set up tables.

Donations of almost anything are

accepted for this sale. Donations

that are not being accepted

If you don’t already know, Kenny Chesney’s “Goin’ Coastal Tour” is coming to Lambeau Field on Saturday, June 11. This will be a six hour concert that includes Uncle Kracker, The Zac Brown Band and Billy Currington. Our Saviour has signed up to work at a food stand during this event. There is no running involved; we will cook and sell brats, hamburgers, beer, popcorn, etc. At least 19 volunteers are needed to run the stand. Positions include kitchen workers, register people and “order fillers.” This is a great opportunity for OSLC to raise some extra cash for the church. We will be given 10 percent of the net sales from our

booth, which is at “Grid Iron Grill” located in section 308. Contact Neil Burmeister for more information at (920) 866-9088 or show your interest in volunteering by signing up at the cookie bar (no later than June 5, please). Invite a friend to work with you … there is no requirement that workers must be members of Our Saviour. However, all workers must be at least 18 years old, must show a photo ID when entering the stadium, must wear black pants (no shorts, capris, etc.) and comfortable shoes (no flip-flops, no open toe or open heel, no high heels) and must take an online alcohol awareness test prior to working any event at Lambeau

Field. A shirt and hat will be provided. We are also currently planning to work as sixth floor runners at home Packer games for the 2011-2012 season. The schedule may be ready but the players and owners are still trying to work out a new contract. Without a new contract, there is no season and, without a season, there are no games and no runners needed. This would mean a loss of around $10,000 to Our Saviour. Stay tuned for details on the need for servers for the coming season. Pray for a new contract and a football season that helps OSLC and the surrounding communities immensely!

OSLC Packer servers are “Goin’ Coastal.” Well, kinda

Who misses the 9:15

a.m. worship service almost

every week because they had

something else to do? Did they

have an excuse? Do they have

regrets? Would they do it

differently if they could? Who

were these people? They are

our very dedicated Sunday

school teachers! While you

were in worship, they were

teaching our little ones about

the faith. Thank you teachers!

We hope you keep on serving

again this fall! Are you

interested in teaching? Call the

church office, and we will set

you up!

Thank you, worship

skippers!

Get ready for VBS mania When an event happens it seems

easy, simple, effortless. But behind the scenes is a different story. The recent ladies luncheon was a success because of the people behind the scenes.

The wonderful five-star meal was produced by Larry and Marlys Segriff, Greg Ammerman, and Bob Reinke. Additional help in the kitchen was provided by John Chamberlain, Robin Williams, Brody Wians, Katherine Hovland, Elisebeth Hovland, and Mitchel Waniger. The table settings were provided by JoAnn Vogel, JoElle Bitters, Shelley Williams and Lynn Wians. Carolyn Arndt created the name cards and Tina Pickard did the lettering. And Michelle Burhite, took the initial reservations and payments to jumpstart everything. She did everything I asked of her.

Kate Burie entertained us wonderfully. If you would like to hear her music, a CD of her music can be checked out from the OSLC library. I really appreciate all of the help that made this such a great event and apologize to anyone that I may have missed!

So, next year, please watch for notices of the ladies luncheon and plan to join us for a wonderful afternoon!

Ladies luncheon success

We’re planning for quite an adventure this year! Join us June 27-30 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. for vacation Bible school themed “PandaMania.” Camp Luther will lead grades one through five. OSLC volunteers will lead the preschool and kindergarten children. All children age 3 (by Sept. 1 and potty-trained) through grade 5 are welcome to come and enjoy the fun. Please complete a registration form, which can be found at the welcome center, or call the church office to complete the registration over the phone. The cost is $10 per child or $20 per family. Many volunteers are needed for a successful VBS as well. Everyone is welcome, from sixth grader helpers to retired persons. Please sign up on the large board just outside the Narthex. If you can’t volunteer but still want to help, donations are needed for our daily snacks. Check the large board just outside the Narthex and sign up for the items you can bring. Items need to be dropped off no later than Sunday, June 26. Bins for your donations can be found near the welcome center; cheese can be placed in the parlor refrigerator in the library.

Our Saviour has fielded two softball teams for the Christian softball league in both division one and two, once again this year. Post this schedule on your refrigerator and join us for a game or two (or all!) this summer. Bring your own seat, a snack, friends and relatives and make an evening of it!

Many of our young people are graduating from high school this year. Here are the future plans of

three of them. If you are a senior, please plan to attend OSLC‟s senior recognition day on Sunday, June 5.

Graduating seniors attending any of the three services will be recognized that day. Pictures and

information submitted by graduating seniors to the office (no later than May 31)

will be included on a handout on June 5.

Morgan Geurts, daughter of Marc and Jean Geurts, will graduate from

Preble High School this year. She plans to attend college in Oshkosh but hasn‟t

yet decided on her major. Her favorite verse, which was also her Confirmation

verse, is Habakkuk 3:18, “Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God

my Savior.”

What‟s her advice to others? “Remember for every decision you make

there is a consequence … so always keep God in your life to make your journey

through college and years later a positive one.”

Morgan has grown up at Our Saviour and attended OSLC‟s preschool.

She fondly remembers attending Sunday school with her little sister. She also

attended the summer programs offered at OSLC.

McKenzie Waniger, daughter of Bob and Liz Reinke, will also graduate

from Preble this year. She has plans to attend UWGB, majoring in education and

with a minor in psychology. Although the details of grade and subject are not

worked out, she would love to become a teacher.

Her Confirmation verse is also her favorite verse, which is, Isaiah 40:31,

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on

wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be

faint.”

Memories of Our Saviour are not a problem with someone who was

involved in many activities including volunteering for vacation Bible school, a

Confirmation guide and at Camp Matz. Fun memories include attending the

National Youth Gathering in New Orleans in 2010 and youth movie nights. And

how do you pay for a trip to New Orleans? McKenzie did it, in part, by waitressing at the monthly fish

fries and working the youth pizza sales.

Alex Ronsman, son of Randy and Kim Ronsman, will attend UW-

Madison after graduating from Preble High School in June. He will major in

business.

Revelation 11:15 is Alex‟s favorite verse, “The seventh angel sounded his

trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, which said: „The kingdom of the

world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign

forever and ever.‟”

Among the memories of Our Saviour that Alex takes with him is a youth

group trip to Camp Luther.

The Office of Lay Ministry

bulletin board is ready for you!

Let‟s make it work for

everyone. The Office of Lay

Ministry is hoping to connect

those who have need with those

who can provide. If you have a

need, please write it on the new

bulletin board in the office

hallway. If you need to call it in,

please contact Michelle at 468-

4065. If you have a specific talent

to offer (i.e. you have a lawn

mower and are willing to travel),

you can write it on the list and you

could be called to use your talents

for someone at Our Saviour.

Based on the time and

talent survey completed by many

of our members last year, the

office holds a list of our members‟

interests and skill sets so that, if

needed, they can be contacted and

offered an opportunity to

serve. For example, woodworkers

may be needed to build benches or

someone may wish to start a

quilter‟s group; we can find and

invite those folks. Likewise,

perhaps a shut-in needs to have

his/her lawn mown and can be

connected to a young person who

is in their neighborhood.

OLM will help the pastors

and office staff to secure

volunteers for assisting at funerals,

weddings, general church events

and to track special needs.

Volunteers may send birthday

cards to shut-ins, coordinate meal

deliveries to someone recovering

at home, assist in folding bulletins,

preparing The Voice for mailing,

assist with data entry, etc.

This will be the place

where a board or committee in

need of new folks for a special

project or to serve on the team can

find assistance in locating

members to help. In the future,

this may be where folks come to

adopt a space for maintenance of

the building. For example, a

family may choose to adopt

washing the windows in the

atrium once a month.

The office can track who is

on what board or committee and

who is doing what task or project.

Here, members can come to find

where they can volunteer time or

see, and consider, short-term

projects that need to be completed.

Much more is to come.

Exciting? Practical?

Helpful? Ministry-centered?

Family-like? You bet! We

welcome your input!

chairman of the board of

stewardship.

iPhones, Websites, ATMs, EFTs – Do these terms scare you? Or are they part of your every day life? For some of us, we’re perfectly happy with the “good old days,” paying our bills by check or cash and visiting the bank every payday. For others, bills are paid from a phone or computer and cash is from a machine “when I need it now.” We would like your feedback on whether Our Saviour should add new ways for members to make offerings and payments. Please answer the following questions and drop this sheet in the offering plate, give to an usher or return to the church office. Would you use an ATM machine located in the welcome center to transfer cash from your bank account for church offerings and payments?

__ Yes ___ No Would you use a credit / debit card reader located in the welcome center to make cashless offerings and payments to the church?

__ Yes ___ No If your response to questions 1 and 2 is “yes,” would you prefer the ATM machine or credit / debit card reader, if only one of the two options were available?

___ ATM ____ Credit / debit card reader Would you have an objection to locating an ATM machine or credit / debit card reader in the welcome center of the church?

__ Yes ___ No Comments?

Although we had a great month for unified receipts in April ($54,059.32, which is $11,800.04 over budget), we are still behind our year -to-date budget by $10,174.90. In anticipation of the "summer giving slump" we normally face each year, the council decided to bring back the adopt-a-bill board for the summer (Memorial Day to Labor Day). With your help, it will make up our shortage. Keep in mind, we still need $10,564.82 each week to keep us on track with our budget.

Register online for summer camp

2011! You can still register for summer camp

2011 at www.campluther.com. The theme this

year is EVERDAY and we‟d love for you to join

us this summer as we discover the blessings that

God provides for us every day through His Son,

Jesus Christ, and the everyday opportunities we

have to thank, praise and serve Him! You can

also register by fax or US mail -- registration

forms are available as a quick link on the Web

site, or call camp to have a brochure mailed to

you. Come and learn more about the everyday

blessing that is Jesus in our lives!

Kindercamp! What a wonderful way to

spend some one-on-one time with your child and

encourage their growing relationship with

Jesus! It is a weekend you will treasure for years

to come, and the impact will last a

lifetime. Don‟t miss this opportunity with your

pre-k or kindergarten-aged child! KinderCamp is

offered June 24-26, July 15-17, July 29-31 and

August 12-14 (with GrandKids camp).

IMPACT- Hands on leadership camp

(July 1-9 or July 29-August 6) IMPACT

(Grades 8-10) is just one of many learning and

camping opportunities at Camp Luther this

summer. Participants in IMPACT will develop

leadership skills, work as a team, be accountable,

and practice these skills to bring leadership and

the impact of the Gospel to their church and

communities. Consider IMPACT Leadership

Camp as you register at www.campluther.com. Be an RV volunteer! Summer RV

volunteers help with the ministry of Camp

Luther all while enjoying the blessings of volunteering. Sign up for one or two week blocks of time from May

through September. You may even do more than one session! Camp has an area set aside for your RV with

electrical, water and sewer provided. You will be expected to work half days, with one full day off per week.

Work is tailored to your skills and abilities. And it‟s free! Contact Mike “Mutt” Rieck for more information or

go to www.campluther.com.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR A.S.D. FAMILY RETREAT!! Camp Luther is seeking volunteers

for its first ever A.S.D. family retreat, September 16-18. If you have experience working with autism and

would like to help, please contact Gary “Woody” Vought at 877-264-CAMP or [email protected] for

more information.

WOMEN’S WEEKEND OUT!! Gather the girlfriends for a fun and relaxing weekend at the Camp

Luther Women‟s Weekend Out, September 30 through October 1. Enjoy uplifting Bible study, crafts, and great

fellowship! Visit www.campluther.com to register. Camp Luther is a ministry of the North Wisconsin District-LCMS. Our mission is to build up the Body of Christ for service to the

church and witness to the world.

ADDRESS SERVICE REQUESTED

$4,000 challenge for NEWLHS: An anonymous donor has challenged all supporters of NEWLHS to match his

generous gift to our school by June 25, 2011. This challenge was first shared at the wine and beer tasting event at

Heritage Hill on May 6. To date, we have received nearly $500 towards this challenge but we are far from reaching

our goal. For more information, please contact the school at 469-6810. Gifts may be mailed directly to

NEWLHS. Please include “$4,000 challenge” on the memo line. You may also donate online at

www.newlhs.com. Simply note that you are contributing toward the challenge. All proceeds will go directly to

families in need of tuition assistance. Please prayerfully consider helping by rising up to meet this generous

challenge with your gift of $10, $25, $50 or more!

Blazer Golf Open and Hawaiian Luau: Got golf? NEWLHS needs you! The Blazer Golf Open and Hawaiian

Luau is coming June 20. The deadline for “Golf for Free” is past and now we are offering the event for $100/

person. Get a foursome together for a day of fun, sun and support NEWLHS at the same time. The registration

form can be picked up at church.

A Forward to Forty update for NEWLHS will be held Tuesday, June 14 starting at 5:30 p.m. Please join us to

help plan how NEWLHS moves into their 40th year, “helping families prepare Christian leaders.” More

information is available online on the school calendar - just click on the event.
