The new drive from Bosch opens the door to previously unknown di-mensions in sporty E-biking – just like the efficient XION rear wheel drive, whose superb performance guarantees dynamic riding fun of the highest order. Our Kalkhoff Impulse drive system impresses alongside the backpedal function and the first-class ride characteristics with integrated LCD display

including customisable screen. Even the Impulse batteries set new stand-ards: The 17 Ah battery enables a range of up to 205 kilometres, while the 11.6 Ah light battery adds only 2.5 kg to the weight. If you’re looking for harmonious handling and soft-engaging assistance, then a centre motor is exactly right for you. Thanks to an optimal weight distribution of the the motor and battery, the centre of gravity of this E-Bike is particularly low. This provides it with stability in every situation and gives the rider a greater degree of safety. Centre motor drives are available in many variants, ranging from comfortable to sporty, with hub or derailleur gears.

Can we interest you in something more sporty? A rear wheel drive stands for dynamic, sporty E-Biking both on and off road. The direct power transmission to the rear wheel immediately provides the motor with thrust when you need it.

The front-wheel drive offers riding fun on any road. The simple, intuitive operation, optimal value for money and the reliable motor control are more than enough reasons to jump on the E-Bike.

Our Impulse drive system combines the balanced ride characteristics of a centred and deep-set drive with the usual assistance of a back-pedal brake and two hand brakes. Here, the motor impresses with its superbly controlled performance: soft, controlled start-up followed by an increase in power. So you benefit from the full motor output even when climbing a hill. And that means even more riding fun.

Under optimum conditions and with a fully charged battery in top condition, you can cover a distance of up to 205 km with a Kalk-hoff Impulse. The range is dependent on fac-tors such as assistance, speed, temperature, the number of start-ups, the gear selected and the hills to be climbed.

IMPULSE MOTOR

A torque sensor is integrated into the motor unit. The assistance provided by the brushless motor increases as the pedalling effort increases – up to a top speed of 25 km/h.

SPEED SEnSOR On REAR WHEEL

In addition to a torque sensor, the Im-pulse drive is also controlled by a speed sensor. This means that the maximum power assistance will also be provided when riding with higher pedalling cadences at lower speeds, when cycling uphill for example.

Under optimum conditions and with a fully charged battery in top condition, you can cover a distance of up to 170 km with a XION drive. The range is depend-ent on factors such as the assistance level selected, temperature, the number of start-ups, the gear selected, speed and the hills to be climbed.

TFT DISPLAY

The ergonomic, high-quality TFT display informs you about journey time, speed and your personal contribution, amongst other variables. Thanks to a light sensor, the information can be read particu-larly easily in all light conditions.

XIOn MOTORThe power sensor integrated in the drive precisely calculates the pedal force, which is then boosted by the motor using an algorithm so that the handling is agile and natural at the same time.

A punchy, dynamic ride. The XION rear wheel drive combines riding performance with efficiency and reliability – a great fun factor for anybody who appreciates agile handling: accelerate quickly from a standstill, put in a lively burst of speed or even ride power-fully on hills. Whilst doing so, safety and comfort is provided by the hill-descent assistant with recuperation function, which can brake automatically on request and feed the energy back into the battery. The XION drive can be operated highly intuitively via the control panel, which also allows you to call up information comfortably and safely during a journey.

calculation of rangeSThe batteries used in Kalkhoff E-Bikes can last a distance of up to 205 kilometres. However, the actual distance is dependent on various factors. Naturally, the distance is greater on flat roads than over hilly terrain. Similarly, a headwind or tailwind, like the temperature, can influence battery performance. Besides these external influences, the number of stop-starts, an even pedalling cadence and the bike being in perfect technical condition can also help to increase the distance. And the weight of the rider or the load influences the range, too. The influences are so many and various that the longest range achieved can be up to 7 times as long as the shortest.

What advantageS do e-bikeS offer?

Riding an E-Bike has many advantages: it’s at once sporty and relaxing, it’s kind to the environment, cost-effective and also great fun. Pedalling is assisted by powerful electric motors, so that joints are spared added stress, peaks of effort are avoided and longer distances can be covered with less effort and stress. Even a heavily loaded pedelec, with lots of luggage or a child trailer, is pleasant and easy to ride thanks to the electric assistance, which takes part of the strain. Moreover, an E-Bike creates no noise or pollution and offers fantastic energy efficiency. In combination with the low running costs – one battery charge costs between € 0.08 and€ 0.15 on average – it is the perfect alternative to the car, especially for daily or shorter journeys.

do i need a driving licence to ride a pedelec?

In most European countries, pedelecs with a motor output of up to 250 watts and speeds of up to 25 km/h are considered bikes and may therefore be used without a driving licence. To ride S-Pedelecs, which reach speeds of up to 45 km/h, you might require a driving licence and a valid insurance plate.

do i have to Wear a helmet on a pedelec?

For riders of pedelecs which reach speeds of up to 25 km/h, there is, as with bikes, no legal requirement to wear a helmet. Nevertheless, Kalkhoff express-ly advises you to wear a bicycle helmet for your own protection in road traffic. On the other hand, S-Pedelecs which reach speeds of up to 45 km/h are subject to the Road Traffic Licensing Regulations in most European countries, which make it compulsory to wear a helmet. Kalkhoff recommends special E-Bike helmets, as these have a sturdier construction than conventional helmets and therefore offer greater protection.

can i ride on a cycle path on a pedelec?

In most European countries, there is a legal obligation to ride on the cycle paths provided – so you must do so. With S-Pedelecs on the other hand, you may only use a cycle path if your power assistance is turned off. Cycle paths where mopeds are permitted, are the exception to this rule.

hoW do i gauge the range of a battery correctly?

When comparing batteries, you should bear in mind that different drive systems work with different voltages, so the ampere-hours (Ah) indicated alone are not a reliable guide. The amount of energy stored, given in watt-hours (Wh), is decisive. This is calculated by multiplying the voltage (volts) by the charge (Ampere-hours). Thus, a Kalkhoff Impulse battery with 17 Ah and 36 volts has 612 watts of energy, for example: 17 Ah x 36 V = 612 Wh. Depending on the efficiency of the motor system, we can generally say that the more watt-hours there are, the longer the range is.
