PBL introduces Zones of Regulation into NPS:
PBL is a highly successful philosophy of teaching positive
behaviour choices, decisions and strategies for students into
classrooms, playgrounds and daily lives. At Narromine PS we
are extending our students into
self-regulation by introducing
Zones of Regulation into our behaviour
management philosophy. Each Monday following
Crunch N Sip the students have designated PBL
lessons, for Term 3 these lessons will focus on
Zones. We will be hosting a parent information
session in the near future for families to become familiar with the language used and strategies implemented. The
following is a snippet of information to kick start our families knowledge of their children’s upcoming learning. For
further information; https://occupationaltherapy.com.au/learning-self-regulation-with-the-zones-of-regulation/
The Zones of Regulation® is a systematic, cognitive behavioural approach used to teach self-regulation by grouping
our state of alertness, feelings and arousal into four coloured zones. Created by Occupational Therapist and Autism
Resource Specialist, Leah Kuypers, The Zones of Regulation® framework provides children with strategies and tools to
become aware and independent in controlling their emotional impulses, manage their sensory needs, and improve
their overall ability to problem solve. Through incorporating the concepts of Social Thinking, the lessons on self-
regulation become meaningful to our childrens’ lives as they gain a deeper understanding of the impact their
behaviour has on relationships.
Tastebuds Canteen – congratulations
We have again been recognised as meeting the NSW Healthy School Canteen Strategy standards. Annie and the
canteen team are to be congratulated as Tastebuds plays a big part in our school’s day, not only are our P&C providing
the experiences for establishing healthy eating habits, they are building our Cruch N Sip repertoire by providing tasters
of different fruits and vegetables. The weekly specials are a super delicious way of joining our P&C in recognising and
exploring different foods as part of an educational setting here at NPS. The Community Team are encouraging parents
who would like to assist on Mondays with specials to make contact via the school office.
Mobile Phones @ NPS
Mobile phones have become an important and invaluable part of our modern life style. We understand that there are
times when possession of a mobile phone can provide a sense of safety and security while travelling to and from
school. Mobile phones are unnecessary during school hours as a method of communication with students given the
primary school setting. If students are required to bring a mobile phone to school with them, they are to hand the
phone into the office for safe keeping until the end of the school day, as per our mobile device policy. Parents and
students are advised that in bringing mobile phones to school, they are doing so at their own risk. Students will be
reminded of the NPS mobile device policy.

Jennifer Parslow (7.8.1952 - 28.7.2019)
This week we at Narromine Public School have farewelled one of our
dearests and most giving team members. Mrs Parslow has been a Learning
and Support Officer for the past 17 years working and supporting students
and families. She was well known for her fun loving nature, her depth of
compassion and her ability to light up a room with her positive attitude.
Mrs Parslow worked closely with the students in the MC class but touched the wider student body as she was often in
the playground guiding children, assisting in sorting out choices, helping little ones onto and off the fixed equipment
and tying the thousands of shoelaces that came her way in a day.
To the students of the MC class, Mrs Parslow was the one constant. Teachers, due to appointments come and go, but
Jenny was the one face that remained the same. She was steadfast in her passion for growing her students into
beautiful, caring individuals. She remembered and acknowledged each of their birthdays, year in and year out with
birthday cakes and little gifts (as she’d say…”they cost me a little but it means a lot to…” ). Mrs Parslow was known as
a staff member who would provide back up, support and action after the end of the school day if and when her families
needed her.
Jenny Parslow was and is what public education strives for. She was for the children regardless of circumstance, age
or ability. She was compassionate, strong, firm, loving and giving. Jen was a friend and colleague in good times and
hard times, her ability to make a difference will be remembered with every success we have, every laugh we share
and every hope we ignite.
Our deepest sympathy to Peter, Willy, Jody and families. We would like to thank our school family for their
understanding at this difficult time. Mrs Parslow’s funeral service will be on Tuesday 6 August, arrangements for our
school will be confirmed and communicated in the coming days.

PBL News
This week’s focus in Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is about how students use appropriate ways to gain attention
from peers, teachers and other staff in our school setting. Students are encouraged to show responsibility by speaking
nicely when interacting with others. Students have also been reminded to treat people the way they wish to be
treated. Thank you for your support with this.
Remember for students to achieve BLUE level this term, they are required to have
228 points and for RED level 216 by Thursday Week 10. Also, there will be stage
rewards during Week 5 for those students who have achieved 100 points.
Last Friday, PBL students in Stage 3 who accepted the challenge of reading in the
holidays were treated to a Nerf Gun Challenge in the hall. Thank you for supporting
your children with their education. Well done to all those students who have
received Super Vals for exceptional behaviour on the playground, teachers are
always on the lookout for students who are demonstrating RHR.

K-2 Author Visit – Susie Sarah
Dear students,
I am looking forward to seeing everyone at Narromine Public School
on Friday the 2 August which is not far away now.
Being an author is a very busy occupation. Writing and researching
takes up a lot of my time, but I love to visit schools and meet lots of
readers, writers and illustrators. Some of you love to write and
others prefer to illustrate, so we will talk about, and explore, both
of these important aspects of a book. As you will realise my main
focus is stories about animals so we will be writing about native
animals and our pets as well. At the end of our time together we will have
shared our love of stories and books, and had a lovely time together.
See you soon,
Susie Sarah.
Creative Arts Morning
Local artist Susie Rae enjoyed making hats with future students as part of our
orientation to school activities. The little people enjoyed listening to a story
about cool, crazy, colourful hats and creating their own kooky-crafty designs.
Our next orientation to school activity is on Tuesday 6 August at 10am where
you can enjoy morning tea while your future kindergarten student spends time
in our kindergarten classroom.

Maths Matters
Maths in Action
Students in the MC class have enjoyed engaging in a range of Mathematical learning experiences. The students are
working hard each day using a variety of materials and strategies to support their understanding of a variety of
Mathematical concepts. They must be congratulated on their efforts as they improve their knowledge and application
of numbers, 2D shapes, time, patterns and addition.
Family Literacy Challenge
Welcome to our Family Literacy Challenges. You will need to get a family team together to complete the challenges.
There will be a box in the front office to submit your entries. To collect the prize you need to make sure you have one
name of a family member per entry. For example: The Jones Family- Andrew Jones 4W.
To be in the running for a $10 canteen voucher make sure you get your entry in the bright pink box in the foyer at the
office. You have to be in it to win it!!
Week 2 - Adjectives. Adjectives are words that tell us more about a noun eg: The big brown dog. Big and brown are
both adjectives.
Week 2 Challenge - List as many adjectives as you can that describe animals.

Athletics Carnival
Our school athletics carnival is happening this Friday 2 August, 9:20am at Peyton Park. All students are to come to
school as normal and have their names marked off with the classroom teachers. Students will then walk to Peyton
Park with their house groups. The athletics carnival will be for all students in Years 3-6 plus any students turning 8
years old this year from Year 2. Kindergarten, Year 1 and the remainder of Year 2 will be coming across at 12.30pm to
do their 100m sprint. Students may wear their school sports uniform or their house colours: Bogan-blue, Castlereagh-
red, Macquarie-green and Namoi-yellow. There will be full canteen facilities and children attending the carnival for
the day do not need to order their lunch. We will be requiring parents to assist with the timekeeping of the track
events, so if you have some time available, any help would be greatly appreciated. Students are advised to bring recess,
lunch, water, sunscreen and a hat. The Gobondery/ NARRAF carnival will be hosted by Yeoval at Barden Park, Dubbo
on Tuesday 13th August 2019. Kristie Mackay - Sport Coordinator
Stage 3 2019 Canberra Excursion Our Stage 3 students, at the end of Term 2,
participated in an educational tour of the national
capital. They were given the opportunity to
participate in a variety of educational programs
with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage
and democracy. Students visited Parliament House
learning about the Senate and House of
Representatives which will directly support their
learning this term with our history unit on
democracy. Our students also visited the Electoral
Commission to learn about voting and Questacon
to explore all things science.
The Australian Government recognises the
importance of all young Australians being able to
visit the national capital as part of their Civics and
Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting
the cost of the excursion the Australian
Government contributes funding of $20 per
student under the Parliament and Civics Education
Rebate program (PACER) towards those costs. The
rebate is paid directly to the school upon
completion of the excursion. This contribution as
well as the school contribution to bus travel helps
to ensure our costs are kept to a minimum.
Our excursion was a valuable experience for our
students providing opportunities for learning and
a lot of fun.
